For Zoey Odell, the definition of family is her two best friends, Maya and Addy. So when Maya makes the decision to leave her abusive husband, Zoey is only too happy to lavish her with support and a temporary home. Unfortunately, taking in her best friend also means seeing more of that no good do-gooder, Kellen Bradley.

For Kellen, the definition of family has just been sha

Zoey is a strong woman - she doesn't take any crap from anyone. You don't mess with her and you don't mess with her friends. When Zoey's best friend Maya is abused by her husband, Zoey steps in to help her. Maya's husbands brother, Kellen, also steps up to help. Kellen is nothing like his abusive jerk brother. He has a reputation for being a nice guy, sometimes too nice and people think he's a pushover. Zoey and Kellen don't get along but when they are forced to spend time together they see ther ...more

Zoey and The Nice Guy is a story about a young woman named Zoey who has a job, a place of her own, two best friends since high school, and Kellen, aka The Nice Guy, who is a young man with his own freelance job, his own place, his own one friend and sister in law. When I read the synopsis of this book-and what can I say, when I looked at the cover- I had such high expectations. I expected a funny, bickering, enemies to lovers story but I’m very sad to say that I got none of that. This book had t ...more

The Big Girl Panties series tells us the stories of three best friends and their long-winded paths to love and overcoming all the obstacles in their lives. Once upon a time, there were three best friends Zoey, Addy, and Maya. Book #1 is Zoey's story. Now as adults, the three have remained as friends and are there for one another in crises. Maya has been hit one time too many and is now leaving her husband and taking the kids. With nowhere to stay, Zoey opens up her house to Maya and the kids. Ke ...more

Did I like this book?

Eeeeep, um, not as much as I expected to, unfortunately. I really enjoyed my previous read by Carter Ashby, so I was expecting great things from this title. I think most of my problems stemmed from Zoey. Whenever there's an unlikeable heroine involved, an author has to work extra hard to get the reader behind the romance, and in this case, I just wasn't buying into it. Zoey treated Kellen horribly in the beginnin

I read Carter Ashby's "Without You Here" a couple months ago and really enjoyed it. I was excited to start this book, but was diappointed. Zoey is a really unlikeable character, and while she goes through some development over the course of the book, it was not enough change to redeem her character. Her relationship with her mother was bizarre and a bit over the top. Kellen was likeable but his relationship with Zoey seemed to lack depth. I did enjoy the secondary characters and can see where th ...more

I started reading this book a few days ago. Managed to read 7 chapters before sleep demanded my attention instead.

Tried again today ... and found myself thinking that these characters are so onedimensional and silly (if not stupid) that I am in no mood to read about them. The pairing is pretty obvious ... and unlikeable for me. The heroine was not likeable, nor could I relate to the hero in any capacity.

Unfortunately, can't say that I'd recommend this one to others. :/

I wish I liked this book more. I found that Zoey as a character was rude and obnoxious. I really do not see how any man could put up with her antics. I understand that there is the whole abuse (in many forms) theme but there are better stories out there that handle it better.

This book was a rollercoaster of emotion, and I loved it!

This is the story of Zoey. Zoey's not had any good parental guidance, and has essentially been on her own since she was 16. She yearns for her mother's love, while knowing her mother seems to lack in the maternal department. Zoey's best friends are Addy and Maya. Maya married young due to pregnancy, and has some problems come up and has to rely on her friends for help.

Kellen is Maya's brother-in-law who everyone loves because he's a nice

Zoey and Kellen's story starts out very rough. Zoey has had a hard life and is now getting emancipated from a mother who does not love her. She works full time and goes to school, basically taking care of herself. Her friends Addy and Maya, well they all take care of one another.

At first, Zoey cannot stand Kellen, since the wife beater who is beating her best friend Maya, is his brother - Damon. Zoey tells him at every opportunity she hates him and wishes he would leave. Kellen, in a series of t

This is another case of Anna and the French Kiss where the title leads you to believe the book will just be 90% cheesy dialogue and 10% romance but is actually a well written book with great characters and a compelling (love) story.

The few aspects I didn't like were the pacing of the romance and the ongoing mentions of domestic abuse. The abuse is a significant part of the story and is something that brings together the characters but I felt it glorified it when the one receiving it kept calling
The first half of this book was a three star read and the last half was a one star read for me.

I really liked Zoey in the first half. She's fiercely loyal to those she loves and will do anything for them. I always love strong heroines. Kellen was also the type of hero I enjoy reading about. He's had enough of Zoey and her irrational hate of him and won't allow himself to be a pushover any longer. Watching these two butt heads in the beginning was great.

The story fell apart for me when Zoey's mom

I don't destroy men. They destroy themselves.

Have you ever connect to a character so much that you felt like it's your story the author is writing about? Well, I do and this is one of those times.

Zoey is the type of girl who believes that women shouldn't be an underdog with men, which means she is really someone who shouldn't be mess around with cause she can mess you up badly and when she met Kellen, a perfectly nice guy whom

I think this gets 3.5 stars from me. The story didn't really go much of anywhere for me to really score it much higher than that. There were a few really exciting scenes that got me wanting to read on, but a lot of it also fell flat. I loved Kellen. He's not only just the nice guy that everyone has him pegged as, he's also super sweet, a really great family man, smart & talented. I have no idea why he put up with Zoey or why he w

Zoey and the Nice Guy is the first book in the Big Girl Panties series by Carter Ashby. This first book focuses on Zoey Odell and Kellen Bradley, two opposites who everyone says should stay as far apart from each other as they can. Zoey can't stand Kellen for the strangest of reasons--he's too nice of a guy--while Kellen is drawn to Zoey like a fly to a spider's web. What ensues is a series of awkwardly humorous moments between the two while dealing with the angst-filled family drama they find t ...more
I have to admit it, I thought the title for this one was…lame. But then I started reading, and now I totally get it.

Kellen is a complete sweetheart. Incredibly easy going, genial, and cheerful, he is the polar opposite of the stereotypical alpha male. This is the kind of person who would do anything to help a friend or even a casual acquaintance, and someone that everyone in town knows, likes, and trusts. In the beginning he honestly reminded me a bit of a golden retriever, he’s just that happy

Review by Trinette Dungee

Zoey O’Dell didn’t have the best childhood. Her mother was more interested in finding the perfect man than being the perfect mom; which left Zoey to become the responsible one in the household. While she may not have grown up with a traditional family her two best friends since grade school, Maya and Addy, are all the family she needs. She’s fiercely loyal and protective of them both. So when Maya decides to leave her abusive husband she goes into pure “Zoey mode” to pro

I need to tweak my customary "Character Introduction" due to the amount of players in this book and how they all seem to have an equally strong presence throughout. I could summarize by saying that there are three childhood best girl friends, coming from varied backgrounds and now grown up, that walk paths just as varied and filled with challenges. Zoey has always been the protector, having to learn early on to fend for herself in a

I have mixed feelings about this book, though overall I enjoyed it. First, the title and cover gave me the impression that this was going to be a sweet, fun romance. Well, from the very first chapter we are hit with the sadness of this trio of friends' lives and upbringing. This start leads us into present day and the even sadder circumstances of Maya's life, and how her friends and brother-in-law pull her out of hell. But for Zoey, this also puts her right into Kellen, Ma

Zoey is a fireball. She does not let others put her down and always defends herself and the people who she cares about the most. Kellen is Mr. Nice Guy. He tries to be nice to everyone he meets and it is hard for him to show anger towards others. Zoey and Kellen's lives become more intertwined when their friend, Maya, needs a place to stay after leaving an abusive husband. Having had to look after herself since she was a child, Zoey has built an impenetrable wall of hostility around her. However, when her friend Maya needs her help Zoey has to let her defences down and allow outsiders in. This includes Kellen, Maya’s brother-in-law.

Can Kellen help melt Zoey’s icy exterior?

Carter. Ashby. What a wonderful book you published!

Okay, so we have a dominant personality and a submissive personality. This is pretty common in the romantic literature world, right? "Alpha male" is an incredibly recognized term.
... Except it wasn't the male in this book that was the alpha. It was the girl. And it was glorious.

I don't know, I always thought I was a alpha-male-only kind of person. Not that I like over-the-top jerks in books, but I don't like someone that could be classified as

No guy wants to be the nice guy. Nice guys finish last and all that. Though with Kellen, that reality hits him real hard when friends gladly give him their sisters' numbers, because they know he will take care of them. This never used to bother him. He likes being nice and friendly, it's just that girls don't seem to want that, not really. Definitely not Zoey, she eats nice guys for breakfast.

Zoey can be a witch. The woman has no filter, curses worse than a sailor and tends to speak her mind wit

This is an adult romance book that is set around Christmas time. I really enjoyed this book, but I will say it is definitely for adults. I wouldn't suggest anyone younger than 17ish read this. There was A LOT of cussing, and some sex scenes that were definitely meant for adults. That being said, the storyline was great.

I really enjoyed this book, and didn't want to stop reading. I felt my heart break with the characters as well as

First off, the cover is so cute and after you read the story is absolutely perfect. I appreciated that Kellan was a nice guy. I, like most females, love the brooding/tough guy, but it was nice that an author was actually writing a book about a genuinely nice guy. And Kellan was sweet. Zoey was a really interesting character. She is in her early 20's, pretty responsible, but clearly dealing with abandonment issues from her childhood. The great thing about this book was that you see her grow throu ...more

The 1rst thing I was attracted was the cover and I thought I was going to read a nice little romance without much complication ... and I was wrong. The story is much more complicated.
Here is the story of Zoey and Kellen. Zoey is a young independent woman and a strong character (too much ahah she's curse like a sailor but It's fun reading lool) ... His first encounter with Kellen is striking haha ... from the beginning, she did not like him just because he's t

The Series starts with Zoey helping Maya out when her friend seeks help to escape the clutches of her abusive husband. Maya’s brother-in-law, Kellen, is a saint of a man who vows to help Maya and make sure his own brother pays for what he’s done to her. The only problem is Zoey. Zoey thinks she can handle everything with her vicious tongue and no nonsense attitude, least of all help from the goody-two-shoes Kellen Bradley.

I don't read many straight romances, I mostly read fantasy and paranormal romances, but this description caught my fancy for some reason and I requested it via Netgalley.

Overall I gave this book 4 stars because I liked Kellen's characters and I liked Zoey's friends. I can honestly say I didn't like Zoey through much of the book. She was mean to Kellen just because he is the brother of the man

I liked Zoey. Her bitchy attitude is what I can connect with. For some reason I love bitches so yay for that. Kellen is the nice guy that Zoey can't stand.
