4 - "I'd rather be afraid than half alive." Stars!

I am a big fan of Serena Bell’s writing, she always seems to manage to take something that was pretty special to start with and turn it into spectacular. Lily and Kincaid’s story is definitely in the latter column for me, it started out steady and then took off pretty quickly.

Back in Tierney Bay, Lily McKee is living week to week, staying in her sisters basement, whilst waitressing and bartending until she has made enough money to enable her to

Holy moly frijoles- this book is hot! Serena Bell does an amazing job creating relationships through erotic connections and making you root for the characters to find their happily ever after! I read this book in one night, and all the feels were there (although they seemed to be clustered in one specific southern region! haha!). Great book, great characters, and I hope we get to see more of the people in this world! I really loved all the secondary characters just as much as the main ones- whic ...more

After 7 years in prison, Kincaid is out and looking to make things right for his grandma. He couldn't protect her when she was alive but he's not going to let the man who abused her take everything she owned. Kincaid doesn't see himself as a good guy, knows that he's not relationship material but when he meets an innocent looking waitress, he can't help himself. Lily is living in Oregon, staying with her sister and working in a diner as a waitress. Her life in Chicago didn't turn out exactly as ...more

Lily flutters from the moment she sees Kincaid walk into the dingy diner where she waits tables, making her dark desires, you know...the ones you don’t discuss in polite company, light up like a solar flare. Neither of them are looking for a relationship, since Lily’s determined to head back to Chicago to be a chef and Kincaid has justice to exact for his grandmother. But you know how this goes...romance happens anyway.

- Strong storyline : Ms. Bell’s stories, at least the ones I’ve read, have be

2 stars.

I knew roughly how this was going to turn out 10% into the story. There are no surprises here. Displaced woman looking for some validation and a new start on life; mysterious man gives good smoulder in her diner and sparks fly. Both try hard to resist their feelings. A secret is reluctantly revealed... You all know what happens next.

I don't necessarily have a problem with formulaic romances. Some of my favourites have

A you know I suck with words 4 stars. Caid and Lily worked for each other and understood a deeper and darker need in the bedroom that most wouldn't. They gave each other what they needed without asking for anything in return which is the best kind of love. The story was plotted pretty well and I'm curious about Serena Bell's other books now.

This book kept me actively engaged and I laughed several times at the things Caid would say because he's such a freaking character. I did like Lily, she was
I'll write a review of this closer to the release date, but in sum: it was okay. I thought that Lily and Kincaid's chemistry was palpable as well as their insecurities, but somehow there were things about this read that still didn't fully connect with me on the whole.

I'd probably rate it around 2.5 stars.

Serena is baaaaack!

Serena Bell’s writing isn’t known enough for my taste. I loved her from the first story of hers I’ve read; and I immediately liked her style; Carefree yet realistic. And this one is a first in a new Second Chances series by her. Yay!

I saw Turn up the Heat on NetGalley and had to request it. I was not disappointed.

Lily and Kincaid are two extremely complex characters. They’re gentle and kind, they love fiercely and as such, get hurt easily. But they both h

I really liked the unexpected nature of this book.

Our main character Kincaid Graves is trying to right a wrong that occurred years prior. His problem is, he notices Lilly and wants to be all kinds of dirty with the waitress at the diner. Kincaid had a dark dangerous, edgy side as well as a protective caring side.

Lilly is a sweet girl who is currently down on her luck. She seeks comfort with her sister and her family while she tries to get bac

I liked this. I liked Lily and Caide, the story, and the side characters. I liked the sex that pushed the envelope just a bit while still feeling like real sex between real people. I'd love to see Sierra get a book, as well as Grant.

This was fun. I discovered this author after reading Hold on Tight which I also enjoyed. Bell is an author I'm going to be keeping my eye on.

Serena Bell writes books with hot sex and lots of emotion, and those are the types of books I love to read!! The second half of this story is what made it a 5 star read for me.

One of the things that I enjoyed the most about TURN UP THE HEAT is that the heroine, Lily isn't really in need of saving. Lily has hit a few snags, had a disappointing relationship, and has been set slightly off course career wise but has not given up. Instead of floundering, feeling sorry for herself, or helplessly waiting to be rescued Lily has made a few sacrifices by moving in with her sister, taken a job as a waitress, and made a game plan as to how to get back on track. Lily also doesn't ...more

Turn up the Heat is a steamy and entertaining read.

I enjoyed the storyline, the characters were honest, relatable, likable and entertaining.

Turn up the Heat was one of those books once you start reading you can't put it down, I read it in one sitting.
Loved the growing relationship between Lily and Kincaid, the attraction and chemistry was smoking. They were perfect for each other, both in the bedroom and in life.

This is the first book that I have read by this author so I was not sure what to expect. What I found was an entertaining read that was full hot steamy scenes, with plenty of detail and heat. While the storyline is somewhat typical and you totally know where it is going, the author has a fine writing talent that carries the typical and transformed it into a delghtful read.

The connection between the 2 main characters were pretty well thought out although the first scene was a bit startling... but

This sexy and tension filled romance is the story of Lily and Kincaid. When Lily's relationship in Chicago failed, she ended up with no plan, except to lick her wounds and try to save up some money to bring back her dream of opening her own restaurant some day. Staying with her sister in the small town of Tierney Bay on the Oregon Coast and waiting tables at a dingy diner keeps her going, one day at a time. With time on her hands, she can't help but notice the sexy mystery man who starts to take ...more

3.5 Evocatively written, albeit overly short novel about two people who both feel beholden to family to make up for the screw-ups of their pasts. Heroine Lily went to cooking school on the insurance money her family received after her father's death, but blew her chance to make good when the guy she was dating/working dumps her and takes away her job. Hero Kincaid, just out of jail for a violent crime, wants to find his grandmother's will so he make sure her money goes to her favorite charity, n ...more

This is a very hot and steamy read, with some fabulous kink - but it is also a lot more than that. The way that the desires and demands were written made everything both real, but also intensely erotic.

Lily and Kincaid are so well drawn that I would recognise them in the street, and so appealing that I would want to spend the evening with them. In short order, Ms Bell paints their lives and wishes so clearly that it is im

Ex-con Kincaid Graves is living a very careful life..he has no desire to go back to prison. After a bad break up, Lily McKee is working in a local diner, living with her sister and family, trying to make some money to go back to Chicago. Kincaid gets her pulse pounding the second he walks into the diner. Can they be lovers with no strings? A very sexy story with amazing characters.......full review to follow.

This author definitely knows how to write realistic and flawed characters.

She also deals with the premise of two consenting adults having your not so typical (non-traditional) sexual relationship without any judgement.

And lastly, it was hot as shit.

This is the second book this month I’ve added to my review schedule at the last minute because of the excerpts I read while preparing the blog post. Fortunately I had a little play in my schedule, but even if I hadn’t Turn Up the Heat would have been well worth getting behind for. The series title is very appropriate for the book as it is a second chance romance like none I’ve ever read before. Yes, Kincaid’s status as a par

I can't really explain why I didn't like this novel. Somehow I wasn't interested in both MC. Mostly I was getting tired of the constant inner dialogue so on the third mark when I realized nothing truly happened it felt the right time for me to stop.

Lily is a chef but she is working as a waitress in a dinner in the small city her sister lives in. She plans on earning as much money as she can and return to Chicago to try her luck as a chef somewhere there. I still don't know what happened
