I have worked as an unpaid Little League pitcher, a cashier, a student library aide, a factory grunt, a cubicle drone, and an engineer--there is some overlap in the last two.
Through it all, though, I was always a storyteller. Eventually I started writing books based on the stray stories in my head, and people kept telling me to write more of them. Now, that's all I do for a living.
I enjoy strategy, worldbuilding, and the fantasy author's privilege to make up words. I am a gamer, a joker, and a thinker of sideways thoughts. But I don't dance, can't sing, and my best artistic efforts fall short of your average notebook doodle. When you read my books, you are seeing me at my best.
My ultimate goal is to be both clever and right at the same time. I have it on good authority that I have yet to achieve it.

Our friend Carl Ramsey is a bird in a gilded cage. Rescued from the Eyndar where he was to be executed for "war crimes"' Carl is now the unwilling guest of Earth's emperor. The condition of his release? Our friends on the Arete must help the emperor remove a particular thorn in his side, Mars. Now plots are put into motion with each side willing to turn on each other at a moment's notice.
This one was a bit of a slow burn, but the tension and anticipation of what is foreshadowed kept me turning the pages.

Like Mission Impossible. In space. With wizards
I do sometimes wonder if J S Morin chooses the titles long before writing the actual books. This one, "Earth, Rewind and Fire" is all about pretty much every main character in the book lying through their teeth and pretending to be someone else, while the previous book "Lies that Bind Us" was all about Time Wizard Eric Ramsay repeatedly rewinding time to try and save his father, notorious war criminal Carl "Blackjack" Ramsey from almost inevitable torture, death and the fiery destruction of the Eyndar home world which follows.
Title aside, this book really leans in to the spies and subterfuge aspect of the series, with a complicated and convoluted plan to both rescue Carl from his new captors on Earth and deliver an empire-sized slap to both the wizard who orchestrated his capture in the first place and the military junta who have ousted the legitimate Martian government. With all the pretending it can be a bit tricky to follow sometimes, particularly as the action weaves between Earth, Mars, and the Arete, but it all builds to a satisfying conclusion and the characteristic Morin cliffhanger.
Well worth a read, if you like a bit of magic-infused "Mission Impossible", and of course I am now looking forward to the next book in the series!

As the crew works toward a rescue of a rescue, many get to try their hand at many layers of subterfuge. It was fun to see so many play an alternate role as everyone scrambles to avert (or stage) additional warfare in the Black Ocean.
