There wasn’t anything horribly wrong with this book; I just lost interest.

My main complaint with this book was just the amount of stuff in there that didn’t need to be in there. I’m all for world-building, and setting the scene, but sometimes we don’t need to know quite so much. Fair enough, tell us what the character is wearing; but I personally don’t need to k

Of Shadow and Stone by Michelle Muto has a neat hook. What if all the stone gargoyles you have come across are Netherworld creatures that actually live? She then proposes that there is a place in our world that serves as sanctuary for these and other creatures of the Netherworld. Vampires and werewolves and gargoyles, oh my!

The overlay is not nearly as successful as the premise. We have the Lord of the Netherworld who lives in a castle called Shadow Wood and he has a “sentinel” who manages the g

First, this is NOT a YA book. I don't know why the publisher listed it as such. It is a dark, adult paranormal. The world-building is very good and rather unique. I loved the idea that gargoyles were real, that they'd been created as protectors of humankind, but had gotten out of control and now saw humans as prey. There is more to this story than gargoyles--Shadow Wood is a sanctuary for everything paranormal--but the gargoyles are at the center of this book. Kate Mercer is a actress whose care ...more

Of Shadow and Stone by Michelle Muto is a book about vamps, weres, a warlock, gargoyles, and the hunt for a human to be the next leader for the gargoyles. The gargoyles need to pick this leader, they have a psychic bond with them. Two humans have come to the castle picked by the warlock and others, one will be chosen from the two. What happens is so exciting, well, who wouldn't be excited to be hitching a ride in a gargoyles mind as they track down bad guys? Although the girl does get a bit sque ...more

But so far the book has left me confused and with no desire to continue reading so I will not waste my time on a book I'm not liking
The gargoyles sentinel has died. As the gargoyles awaken they have chosen, Kate Mercer, an action star movie actress as their next sentinel. She keeps getting sucked into a spooky castle in her dreams, but she is beginning to discover its not dreams but reality and the gargoyles are committing extreme acts of justice no matter the extent of the crime. They want her to control them. Kate must decide if she is going to join this mystical world and control the gargoyles or stay in her actress life ...more

Kate: I want my life back, but I keep wanting to go back to the castle.

Ian: We will do this, together.

Declan: You belong here, Kate.

Kate, a beautiful and successful actress, finds herself drawn to a supernatural world. She does not know why she is attracted to it. She does not know how she gets to it (and neither do we during the whole novel). She just knows that her life as an actress is not the only life possible for her.

Ian, a handsome and successful writer, Declan introduces him

OF SHADOW AND STONE isn’t at all what I expected from the description. I was expecting an action packed paranormal romance. However, this book has almost no action, and the romance was also almost non-existent.

Now with that being said, I still really enjoyed OF SHADOW AND STONE. This story focuses on characters and world building more than anything else and because of that I thought this book would be part of a series. But it appears to be a stand alon

This is amazing!! It’s got freakin’ gargoyles!! How amazing it would be to have control over them? Kate quickly discovers it may be a little more terrifying and gruesome than you might think. But now she’s thrown into this crazy fantasy world instead of just playing the part of an adventurous heroine in the movies. Shadow Wood sounds like the most incredible castle filled with supernatural creatures – I would love to stay there!! But again, it’s no fairy tale. There are some truly scary resident ...more

Kate Mercer dream-walks in an ancient castle, she is in a new sentinel in a world of gargoyles, vampires, and werewolves. There are many supernatural creatures. I liked this book a lot and think it is a great find. I think the story is very entertaining. * I received this book for Netgalley in exchange for an honest review*

I had high hopes for Of Shadow and Stone and ended up really disappointed by it. I loved the idea of the book – a sort of sanctuary exists for otherworld creatures, Shadow Wood and it is ran by the enigmatic Declan. He hosts all kinds of species but it is the Gargoyles that take someone to watch over them, to keep them in check because they have a very black and white version of right and wrong and when punishment comes in the f

I love it when a much ignored paranormal creature with such a rich history finally gets their day, and it is happening now, right here in Michelle Muto’s Of Shadow and Stone. the world is filled with creatures of myth and fantasy, but no one is more important to good humans than the gargoyle, the protector. Gargoyles need a leader and their leader has died. Enter rising star, Kate, whose life has become a nightmare when her ex-boyfriend, bless his cheating heart, wants her back. But is he alone ...more

I have always loved fantasy books and I thought I have met all of the supernatural creatures - vampires, werwolves, warlocks, faeries. But who would have thought, gargoyles?? Now that's a new one and when I read the summary, I just wanted to read it! The title of this book promises mystery, darkness and questions that will be answered later in the book. I just love the cover and I found it very dark and enticing.

This book was not at all what I expected. I thought that this would be an action-packed paranormal with gargoyles! Gargoyles! I've read very few books with gargoyles as the main creature, so I was excited to read this one! Sadly, this book fell flat.

What if you had a calling? . . .

What if you lack inspiration? . . .

What if supernaturals were real? . . .

Kate is at the highest point of her career even with a few adding weight that she trying to shake off. Maybe a change in scenery would be good for her.

Ian the author is seeking inspiration for his next book, Shadow Wood would just provide the right inspiration

Together these two will discover something they knew thought of and they might ignite a romance between one another.

Let me summarize the story for you:

Kate finds out that gargoyles exist and becomes a sentinel. Not much else happens. This novel is so slow and boring. The characters are okay, but having such a slow book just really ruined it.

So this ended up as a meh book.

This book is just a medley of creatures of the night mashed up with a creepy stalker dude who's obsessed with Kate.

The characters weren't to stupid, but definitely boring and having a medley wasn't fun either.

The romance was weird too. The

This is no YA
This is not a paranormal romance.
Has no strong female character
Changes so many times from pov you are glad your head is not spinning off.

I have no idea what the story line was... At least NOT about a female leading gargoyles.

Kate's story kept me spellbound. All the characters, their views, wove together beautifully. I felt like our heroin, able to see the world and creatures from Michelle Muto's amazing imagination, through the eyes of these characters. My heart is still pounding over that ending as I write this. Read this story! You won't be able to put it down.

I was really looking forward to reading this because there are not many books out there where the gargoyles are the main focus, there are a handful, but they are far and few between. I don’t often run across stories with gargoyles as some of the main creatures that play a huge part of the story. Because of that I wasn’t really sure what to expect. I was very pleasantly surprised to find a rich, entertaining story with these unusual paranormal creatures as the star.

Unfortunately, for my style of reviewing I don’t feel that I can talk too much about the actual story found in Of Shadow & Stone. If I say too much then I give away major spoilers

I really enjoyed this book. Oh, wait, disclaimer: I received an advance copy of this book from the author.

Okay, I really enjoyed this book. Of Shadow and Stone is a paranormal thriller that mixes together all kinds of paranormal creatures. The gargoyles require a mortal sentinel to keep them in check and Kate Mercer, popular Hollywood actress, just might be the next sentinel. In the meantime, the gargoyles are going a bit overboard in dishing out justice. Personally, I think the identity thief g

This is the second novel from Michelle Muto that I have read and she has yet to let me down. Of Shadow & Stone was an action packed paranormal story involving werewolves, vampires, and freakin' gargoyles. Interspersing some pretty deep topics like mental illness and stalking, Muto was able to create a perfectly eerie world that had me fully engaged by the second chapter.

I hate giving this just 2 stars, but I really can't justify 3. The idea behind this book is amazing: gargoyles are alive, and were created by the lord of the netherworld to protect humanity - but their brand of protection looks a lot like vigilante justice, and they need a new keeper to lull them into dormancy. Kate, an actress, has the right bloodline and is the gargoyle's first choice. Ian has the bloodline too, and since he writes horror
2 1/2 stars. Kate was an actress with a great career. Her personal life was falling apart because of issues with an ex-boyfriend. Weird things began happening to her. She kept having bizarre dreams that seemed real, and a strange connection with gargoyles was developed.

The world building was lacking. The gist of it was explained but no details were given. There was so much more I wanted to know. It would have been preferable if more time had been spent on world building and less time had been s
