Fandoms: Supernatural Relationship: Castiel/Dean Winchester -------------------------------------------------- The world's already over and they're already dead. All they're doing now is marking time until the end.
I barely slogged my way through it. I'd heard really good things about the Down to Agincourt series, but I found it very, very convoluted. The bones for a good story were there, and it isn't to say Serpesis isn't a good writer. (I might consider reading something else by Seperis that's *not* a part of this series and see if that makes more sense). Some of the imagery and the poetry of certain sentences were really quite nice.
But I think the author had this image of the final portrait in his/her head and forgot to paint it all, you know? Maybe their brain filled in the gaps, because it felt like the reader is meant to understand things that aren't really made clear at all. There's a lot of dialogue that trails off where you know you're meant to draw some particular conclusion, but most of the time I really couldn't. I'd go back and re-read this bit or that and still be left scratching my head.
I consider myself an intelligent person but I just had a lot of trouble following things through at least 60% of it, which made it hard to enjoy. And don't even get me started on the last chapter. I could probably spend 100 lifetimes on an in-depth analysis with charts and graphs and still never understand most of what was going in that last chapter. So I won't be reading the rest of the Down to Agincourt series. It's just too much work.
This isn't just a book, it's the gateway to the most immersive world I've entered since I read Narnia as a child. Seperis takes the Supernatural episode 'The End' and explodes it outward, capturing all the truth of the episode and Ben Edlund's genius, but extrapolating it outward into three dimensions and following all the implications of an America under Croatoan through to the wildest limits.
I love this Dean. And Castiel of Chitaqua makes me weep at how perfectly convoluted he is, steadfast in his fierce love for Dean.
The slowest of burns, not even a kiss in the first two books, but so much world to chew on, so much dancing around each other. The series is now more than 1 million words, and I love every one of them.
This is without a doubt one of the greatest things I’ve ever read. It’s a slow burn romance it’s an Apocalypse story; it’s a supernatural tragedy it is literary and GRIPPING and wraps you up in it and pulls you along leaving your riveted with every word and I am ADDICTED to this story
I’d rate it higher if I could understand it better. Either my reading comprehension is severely lacking or a lot of context is missing throughout the story. And that ending? WHAT was that. girl help
edit: actually I take back any real negativity, this is so powerful that I passed out from sheer emotional exhaustion for a couple of hours. That’s pretty incredible.
What can I say. It's a fanfiction and it's a book and it's Dean and Cas but if you expected to only fall in love with them (again), you'll be forced to realize you're actually falling in love with the whole end!verse universe. It's familiar because of the show but then it's so much more. Original characters that you will adore and it's slow paced but oh so delicious. Seperis gave me such a characterization of Castiel of Chitaqua and her Dean is everything.
This isn't technically a "book", but I've got physical paperback copies of this series now, and it's some of the best writing/plotting I've ever encountered, so I'm listing it here anyway, in all its million+ glory.
This series is hands down the absolute top tier of fanfiction. I wish the author could just change the names and publish this as a standalone because everyone should enjoy the beauty of it. The first book may seem a little confusing at times, but stick with it, enjoy the journey. It's so worth it!
9/2020 - so I seriously just read this series at the beginning of the month.... but after finishing as much as Seperis has written, I kept wanting more... I kept wondering what everyone was up to and what more was happening for them all. I just missed the guys so much! And since there's so much info packed into the books, I decided that I'd probably pick up more details and understand more if I reread them again. And I was right... I enjoyed revisiting the story so much and I do feel like I'm understanding more of what Seperis has been so kind enough to give to us readers. I'm actually surprised I lasted so long waiting to reread these books, I wanted to dive back in right after!
Can't recommend this series enough - try it, you'll fall in love with the slowest burning love story ever - but that doesn't matter because the sheer scale of amazingness contained in this world is beyond belief
if i’m to read a 1.2 million word fan fiction that isn’t even finished yet i will include it in my yearly reading challenge. if you think this counts as cheating go get a life maybe. hopefully 🙏 i’ll take less than four months to finish book 2
This is epic! This series is the best in SPN fandom, period. Best characterization of Endverse Castiel ever. This work is so refreshing and novel and witty and intellectual. The whole package and then some.
