No one should smile before the sun rises. On the happiness scale, content is about as good as you can get to in these dark hours. I wake early most every morning because content works for me. Since becoming the father of two, this tiny portion of the day is all the me-time I have left. If people were honest, which they mostly aren’t, I think they would admit to wanting mo

Before I forget, I have to say - I am just amazed by this cover. When the request was sent to me, I could not stop looking at it and every time I see it, I smile just a little bit more. :)

This was a great story - one of family-life and work-life not completely meshing, blackmail, suspense - all set around a husband-father who loves his family, even though he doesn't fully understand them, while he works hard on a big project with his eyes on the big prize, head-honcho of the company he works for

A great debut book. When we first see Mitch he's not necessarily a likable character but soon he is confronted with a blackmail, and then the mystery really kicks in. Try to solve the case before Mitch does, and as each event in his troubled life throws him deeper into the hole, you get hooked. Suddenly he doesn't seem that different to the most of us, trying to balance life and work, get a promotion, achieve his dreams. Before the end you are rooting for the poor guy.

Extremely well written with

I won this novel in a give away by good reads, and I am glad I did. This book was very entertaining, VERY Funny, and I enjoyed every moment of it. The story of Mitch and his life is almost like a roller coaster ride. We see him go from the top of the food chain to the bottom of the barrel. Only to be saved by the one thing he dismissed his whole life. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Recommends it for: Ages 17+
Mitch is on track to becoming the next CEO of CommGear, an engineering company, when things start to fall apart. His wife wants marriage counselling, his teenage daughter is being outright rebellious, his investments are crashing, and his major project is on the brink of failure. Then he starts getting anonymous letters, which hint at blackmail. When Jimmy Lee, one of his underling managers, starts acting out, Mitch begins to suspect he's the blackmailer and decides to take matters into his own ...more

I really enjoyed this book and was amazed that this was a first book by this author! The author's character development was very good - at first I didn't like the main character but found myself rooting for him as the story went on. The story twisted well and kept me engaged throughout. I finished the book in a weekend and stayed up well past my bedtime as I didn't want to put it down because I couldn't wait to see what happened next. I hope this author continues writing and I'll be waiting for ...more

Shelves: first-reads
An engineer is intent on fixing his life, home and work, all on his own. Just when you think he can’t mess it up even worse, he does, and does it again! The conclusion may have wrapped up a little too neatly and quickly, but a good read none the less.

My copy was a gift from Goodreads First Reads.

This was an interesting about a mans rise up the corporate ladder who becomes a victim of blackmail. I enjoyed reading about how being blackmailed changed this man. Novel concept.
