Twelve Irish Ghost Stories

Rate this book
Theres nothing like a good ghost story, and the Irish have traditionally excelled at them. The specters which haunt these Irish ghost stories include massacred Spanish sailors, a silver-robed woman who plies her guests with poison, a mutilated peddler, a benign but icy embrace, and the devil
himself. Twelve Irish Ghost Stories draws from the rich and varied literary tradition of a culture long enchanted by things supernatural, a land where ghosts and ghost-seers are common.
Energetically inventive, and infused with a relish of the supernatural, these classic ghost stories still retain their original power to unsettle and surprise. Twelve Irish Ghost Stories is one chilling anthology no fan of the genre will want to be without.

Not knowing many Irish author's exept for Le Fanu and Riddell I thought I would try this little 12 story Irish ghost story book.
I found that Le Fanu and Riddell had the best stories of the collection. Not that all of the other stories were poor but I think the reason that I have heard of Le Fanu and Riddell is because they are the best Irish ghost story tellers.
I was looking for something different in this book and did not find it.The ghost stories were nice but that is all.I am glad that I only got his book from the library and did not purchase it.That said it would be a nice book to read by the fire on a cold and blustery day if you were someone not expecting great literary work but just some simple tales to warm you by your fire.

Anthologies are always strange biests. Often, anything can be found in them: awesome stories, good ones, not so bad one and really not worth it.
This wasn't different, though I have to say the majority of the stories were enjoyable, especially the older one o fhte gothic period. I didn't quite like the most recent ones, they seemed to be undecided whether they are ghost stories of not.
Everall, it was a nice read.

This is a collection of short Irish Ghost stories. Most of them are gothic in style and while they were interesting, the stories where not that scary.
