High Speed fun and 'Zom'botic troubles
Four Point Four Stars
This time the Metal Virus and the Zombots come into Sonic's radar as Dr. Starlink creates a lot of trouble. Worse, this time Sonic himself gets infected because the infection spreads by touch.
The worst is when the Zombots go out of control.
Whisper's side story was also an enjoyable read.
It was a cliffhangar ending as there is another plan to get the Zombots back into control.
The artwork was amazing and the suspense story-line was a perfect read and also the story was that fun read that Sonic comics usually is. Enjoyed it.

Starting last September, IDW began republishing their long-running Sonic the Hedgehog run with the On the Go trades, taking full advantage of the continuity from many of the video games, including some of the obscure handheld titles. Depending on how well-versed you are in the Sonic lore, the IDW series is a fun entry point to get into the comic adventures of the iconic blue speedster. Picking up where the first volume left off, Dr. Eggman is back to his old evil self...

Aside from a good story, it was filled with great artistic detail with non-stop action, vibrant colors, and full-spread illustrations. In terms of an art team, it varied between artists such as Tracy Yardley, Evan Stanley, Adam Bryce Thomas, and Jack Lawrence. Each artist brought a unique vision for the Blue Hedgehog’s world, including to character design and creature design in terms of the new threat, the Zombots. I enjoyed the action sequences, offering fun, fast-paced layouts that can hook the reader instantly. The book itself is filled with neat characters with different personalities, adventures, and worlds for fans to sink into and enjoy, even for those fans of Zombie films and shows such as The Walking Dead (minus the gore and flesh eating creatures.)

In our last volume Dr. Starline and returned Dr. Robotnik's memories to him with Sonic and the rest of the gang none the wiser. Dr. Robotnik wastes no time in launching his new attack on the world. This time he has developed a virus that turns living being into Zombie Robots that only he can control. Or so he thinks, as his virus spreads it becomes clear that his Zombots are not responding, which makes it even more difficult for Sonic and friends to fight them. After getting infected himself the team starts to lose hope, will Dr. Robotnik really win this time?
I really enjoyed the first volume of On the Go! But I think I liked this one more because there were actually some short side stories tucked in the middle. Some of them were only a couple of pages long and just gave us a better idea of a specific characters personality or their relationship with each other. However, there was one that was quite lengthy that told Whisper's backstory with Mimic and I liked that just as much if not even just slightly more than the main line story in this!
That being said, the main story was still a ton of fun! Sonic coins the term Zombots early on in the story and it is definitely fitting because yeah whatever this metal virus does really does turn everyone it infects into Zombie Robots and they are surprisingly creepy in a funny sort of way. At first they really don't seem too bad and the whole idea seems almost absurd but after Robotnik loses control they get really aggressive and they seem pretty impervious to damage. Which the latter part is not necessarily a bad thing if they want to be able to cure them. Sonic getting infected was kind of a given considering the virus spreads by touch, kind of the same with his speed being able to hold off the infection, his speed is kinda the answer to everything. That being said if he can "outrun" the infection it'll be interesting to see how or if they can adapt that to a cure in next volume. This had a great cliffhanger ending too with Dr Starline hatching a diabolical plot in order to the Zombots back under control so I am really looking forward to volume 3!!

Action hits nonstop with a tiny touch of humor and fantasy to create more than a couple exciting adventures.
This book starts with the main tale arc of volume 4, Infection, and thanks to the peaceful beginning of this volume, wasn't difficult to dive right into the scenes and figure out what was happening. Then, it dives into the various stories from the 2019 Annual, heads into the Tangle and Whisper miniseries, and rounds everything off with the main arc of volume 5, Crisis City. So, there's a ton packed into these pages and the pacing makes this obvious when heading through. There is a Table of Contents at the beginning to help readers find their desired story right away. Each change-over during the read is accompanied by a single, full-page illustration as a quick break.
Sonic the Hedgehog fans are, obviously, going to enjoy this collection and get quite a bit adventure during the read. The action is non-stop with scenes that bring each moment to life and pack tension as well as energy. The dialogue drives each moment forward, while the well-done illustrations carry the rest. While Sonic drives much of these pages, the others from the group have their own chances to shine due to the various stories in these pages. It creates a lovely playground of personalities, adventures, and worlds for fans to sink into and enjoy. It fits nicely to the middle grade audience as well as slightly older readers.

A great selection of recent Sonic comics! The artwork is spectacular. And I must say as a huge fan of IDW Sonic comics I was honored to get to review this collection early. I even got to read some specials and one offs I missed. Anyway it does a nice job of balancing the specials with some action packed pieces from the larger arcs. A great collection to ease in newer readers without scaring them with the full volumes..

So this is pretty much just the softcover version of the hardcover IDW Collections books. I love how it's 13 issues for only $14, that's awesome! That being said, I'm confused why they changed the covers from the two versions.
And what's even more awesome is that the content inside is great too! I love the Zombot Virus arc; it's the comic's highest point for me.
