Chloe’s life is safe and comfortable. Meeting a tall, dark stranger covered in tattoos is not in her plans. Bad boys just aren’t her type, even if they gorgeous and built like a brick wall. The alarms in her head warn that Aiden Hunter is definitely on the list of men her mother told her to avoid, but she doesn’t listen.

Still, she finds herself drawn to Aiden and the excitement she is missing in her own life. He fills her days with thrills and danger, and her nights with passion she’s never experienced before. Even though she knows he’s hiding something from her, Chloe pushes away her concerns and dives into this new way of living.

Near the beach in Miami, Aiden teaches her to live life to the fullest as Chloe battles the internal warning bells that tell her to be wary. By the time she realizes her fears may be justified, it’s too late.

Aiden’s past is catching up to him, but is he the hunter or the hunted?

★★★★! Alarm (stand-alone). Opposites attract as tattooed bad boy meets OCD good girl & both get lessons in living!

“That’s life, Chloe. That’s living.”

Alarm (stand-alone) is corporate project manager Chloe Ellison, Clo’s story, told entirely from her POV. It opens up to her mundane, cautious, lonely and rather OCD existence being frustrated with her boss and reflecting over her non-existent dating life. After a night-out with friends she is shocked to wake up in a stranger’s bed, a very tattooed and wickedly handsome stranger’s bed I might add.

Aiden Hunter claims to work in sales and is just visiting. He rescued an intoxicated Chloe after she passed out. He did not have his way with her comatose body. Once that is sorted out, neither can deny that there is an attraction. On a whim Aiden invites Chloe to fly back to Florida with him and visit for a week.

Even though the “alarm” is going off in Chloe’s head she decides to go out on a limb and take him up on his offer. The story goes on to follow their budding romance during the visit and beyond as Aiden pushes and coaches Chloe to live a little both inside and outside the bedroom.

Set against the backdrop of “who is Aiden Hunter?” and “what is he hiding?” it quickly becomes clear that these polar opposites have much more in common and Chloe isn’t the only one needing lessons in living…

Seven words to describe Aiden Hunter: Mysterious, observant, broken, enigmatic, chivalrous, spontaneous and loyal.

photo Al he BS by sb_zpsvb1yhrd6.gif

Seven words to describe Chloe Ellison, Clo: Sweet, reflective, meek, OCD, lonely, unhappy and non-confrontational.

Alarm offers a little of everything; romance, self-reflection and growth, steamy sex scenes, humorous situations, adventures and the unfolding of a mystery. Story takes Aiden and Chloe on a roller-coaster of events and emotions only to arrive at a well-deserved sweet yet somewhat rushed ending. I’d welcome an extended epilogue from Aiden’s POV!

It’s a message of hope and new beginnings! A feel-good read with two lost souls helping each other find their way home!

“You helped me learn how to deal with life, and now I’ll help you learn how to deal with…”

4 stars!

description

I really enjoyed this book! As I was desperately in the mood for something lighthearted and on the sweet side, Alarm did the trick. And what really surprised me (but in a good way) was how well done the female POV was considering this author’s past books were in male POV. It’s not to say the story was perfect because truthfully, the heroine’s inner monologue tired me at times and I wasn’t a fan of a few plot events, but overall, this book is a solid standalone romance with a sweet, endearing hero who I absolutely LOVED...so 4 stars it is.

Chloe Ellison is the epitome of safe, predictable, and boring. She never goes out of her comfort zone and though not fully satisfied, is content with the way her life is and has no plans to deviate. On a night out with her friends from work, Chloe barges right into the hero Aiden Turner, and though drunk, immediately brands him as a ‘bad boy’ based off his tattoos and intimidating demeanor. But she doesn’t deny that he thrills her and tempts her to break out of her comfort zone and with an accumulation of events that stress her out, she spontaneously agrees to travel with Aiden for the weekend, just to get away from reality for once. In those days, Aiden teaches her there’s so much more to living than leading a still life and Chloe really starts to challenge herself, attempting things she never would’ve done in the past.

description

Since the main romance is developed over days, it’s arguably an insta-love case. But once again, I’m finding that this book surprises me in that I was not turned off by Chloe and Aiden’s whirlwind romance. Perhaps it’s the combination of Chloe’s innocence with Aiden’s sensitivity and despite the reality of the time they spent together, their romance felt tender and unrushed, and there were clear signs of relationship development weaved between their adventures.

But the highlight of this story is definitely the sweet hero Aiden. He is such a well-rounded character, at times large and overbearing but also this endearing man who took care of Chloe in the times where she needed him the most. He’s pretty much the classical example of ‘don’t judge a person by appearances’ because underneath his tattoos and bad boy persona, he’s a man who’s suffered through trauma and loss. And on top of which, he’s such a dirty talker! I loved all of his and Chloe’s steamy sex scenes.

description

Speaking of Chloe, I wasn’t a really big fan of her in the beginning to be honest. Her ‘voice’ can be draining and I did not like how judgmental she was. But there were positives about her character and the first that really stood out to me was how average she was. Nowadays, I’m a little tired of authors celebritizing their heroines to perfection in terms of personality, looks, financial/social standing, etc…so I liked that Chloe had flaws and that she was portrayed as a seemingly normal person. She holds a regular job and just trudges through life day by day, just like any one of us. Thus, it made it really easy for me to relate to her and whenever I didn’t agree with what she did, I put myself in her shoes and projected. Because if it were me in her shoes, I’d have thought and done some of the same things.

The only part that I can really say that fell flat for me was the teensy suspense aspect of the story. While appreciated, that brief portion felt underdeveloped and in my opinion had it been taken out (or developed in more depth) the impact would’ve been greater. Nevertheless it didn’t hinder my enjoyment of the overall story much, and because I was in the mood for a sweet and heartwarming romance, this book hit the mark for me.

description

Alarm is a contemporary romance standalone that is unrelated to this author’s other books. Though there are no indications of any planned companion novels, this book does set up several secondary characters’ backgrounds so I’d be interested in reading more about them.

4 Alarm! stars

description

Alarm was different than anything else I’ve read by Shay Savage. It took me a little while to get into it- the half way point is where it really picked up for me. Once it picked up, it was action packed, super sexy and very entertaining!

Chloe lives her life very... planned. She works, occasionally goes out with friends and lives alone. It’s not very exciting. Then she meets a sexy tattooed stranger while at a bar with her friends. And he changes everything.

Aiden Hunter is in town from Miami Florida. When a drunk girl runs into him at the bar, then he sees her leaving, he offers her a ride home. There is something about Chloe that he likes. He invites her to spend the week with him in Miami. No strings attached. Just as friends if thats what she wants. He can tell she needs a break, needs to learn to live a little. And boy does she. She puts in for a weeks vacation at work and heads out. Aiden gets her so far out of her comfort zone, doing things she never thought she would do.

description

As the week comes to a close, Chloe is sad to be going home. Even though all these crazy alarms are sounding in her head, she really genuinely likes Aiden and enjoys spending time with him. She likes his friends, the fact that he pushes her and that she has so much fun with him. She finds herself not wanting to rush home like she initially thought she would.

Chloe also finds herself confused. Aiden has been with her for days and hasn’t made a move. She thinks maybe she’s read the signals wrong? Maybe he doesn’t like her like that? When she finally confronts him about it, she finds out differently...

description
“Just say you want it, and I’m going to tear every piece of clothing from your body, hold you up against that wall right there, and fuck you until you scream so loud that you drown out rain and the ocean. I’m going to do things to your body you didn’t think were possible. By the time the sun rises again, you are going to be covered in my cum and ruined for every man you ever meet again.”

Oh my. When things between Chloe and Aiden heat up... it is SO worth the wait. Holy hotness. It’s never been like this for Chloe. She actually is thinking she wishes she could stay in Miami longer, get to know this enigmatic man better, then something big happens. Something that makes those Alarms ring louder than ever. The mystery of Aiden Hunter is harder than ever to figure out. And Chloe has to decide if she even wants to anymore... the secrets are piling up and things are about to be put to the test.

Chloe was one of those heroines that grew on me. I did love seeing her growth. How she started as someone a little shy, very predictable and somewhat boring. Then she changed. She took chances, she came out of her shell and she helped Aiden come to terms with things he’d been holding on to. Aiden was a sweetie. He was hella fine and sexy, but he also has a good heart. He’s a good person who was constantly judged by his outward appearance. My heart broke for him. He really made the book for me.

Alarm is a great read if you’re looking for a fun standalone with some hot sex, a tattooed hero, a little mystery, action and some sweet moments. Shay’s writing is fantastic as always. It had some heartfelt and moments that made me tear up, but it also had some light and funny parts. And did I mention Aiden is a dirty talker and he’s insanely hot? Cause he is! He is the highlight of the book <3

First of all, whose idea was this buddy read anyway? :)

This book for me in a nutshell was a classic case of the dumbass heroine ruining the book. Oh, man. Chloe is such a dingbat, she takes annoying heroine to a whole new level. She's immature, judgmental, and unbelievably dumb.

She constantly giggles, and has many conversations with her female heroine action figures. This happens both out loud and in her head. In any given situation, she thinks about whether or not Wonder Woman or Buffy would approve of her actions. By the way, she's not 13, she's 26.

She also has an inner voice that warns her when she's in danger. All of a sudden she will have Alarm! ring in her head. This would either make me laugh, or want to stab my eyes out with a fork.

This book also had huge issues with repetitiveness. I couldn't believe how many times Aiden's eyes sparkled or twinkled. I was starting to wonder if this book was going to have a paranormal element.

I really liked Surviving Raine, but this one just didn't do anything for me. I did think Aiden was sweet and hot, but that couldn't save the book for me.

Thanks to all the ladies from the buddy read, I hope you liked it more than I did!

NOW LIVE!

Chloe has lived a safe and predictable life, she works as a project manager, has a few close friends and doesn't really venture out of her comfort zone. When her beloved dad passed away a couple of years prior, her mum moved away and so Chloe lives a quiet existence. Spontaneity is not on her agenda and she always listens to her internal alarm – that is until she meets Aiden Hunter.

Aiden is bearded, muscled and tattooed and she immediately judges him by the way he looks. Unfortunately for her, she is drunk when they first meet and ends up ignoring the alarm in her head telling her to step away from the hot guy.

Aiden is drawn to Chloe’s innocence and sweet nature and invites her to experience a little bit of what life has to offer. He teaches her that life isn't worth living unless you experience it to the full and take some risks now and again.

I wasn't expecting this book to be so sweet, Aiden was an easy to love character with a traumatic past that was keeping him from sharing his deepest secrets with Chloe, and Chloe was naively ignoring the red flags that were warning her to just be brave enough to ask him what he was hiding from her. I wanted to shake her at times – I mean she seriously thought he might be a drug dealer but was too worried to ask him outright! Fair enough, she was getting some great dirty sex, but I was starting to worry about her sanity at one point.

The only thing I didn't like was the whole unprotected sex drama - if you are like me, and hate this old chestnut then be warned, it is here loud and clear. I didn't see it as taking risk-taking, I saw it as them being big fat idiots! But, nevertheless I made myself overlook it because I was really enjoying the read.

Lots of typical Shay Savage dirty talking in this book, and she didn't disappoint. I thought that for an author who is well known for her male POV, she did a brilliant job of creating a female voice.

Chloe is your typical normal girl: normal job, normal routine, never gets out of her comfort zone, never does nothing extraordinary. She just live day by day without actually living.
Until she meets Ayden, the tattooed and mysterious sexy guy that for some reason noticed her and wants her to live: really live. And he sweeps her away and starts to teach how life can be appreciated.
But as they start to fall for each other and he’s teaching how to enjoy and live her life, he’s at the same time hiding the dangerous secrets of his own. Secrets that may soon crush them.

This was my first Shay Savage book and some of my GR friends (I like you, people!) felt the need to tell me that this isn’t, by far, her best book and she wrote several way better than this one. I can definitely say that if this is one of the worst, I will definitely read the rest of her books, because this one was pretty good. Yeah, there was a little predictability in the way that it followed the “good girl meets mysterious bad boy” line, but the writing was seriously good and it had a nice twist that changed the story and broke my heart when I found out. It had sweet moments, steamy ones and a couple with chemistry. I really can’t ask for more.

Characters Development: Chloe was nice. A little to mild, a little predictable and her inner monologues were sometimes to boring. But she wasn’t very annoying and I liked her. Ayden was also good. He was sexy and mysterious, but his whole “live life to the fullest” mojo was sometimes too much. But he was a pretty good hero and I really liked to hear his story.
Steam: Hot. The unprotected sex bothered me a little. Seriously, it’s the 21th century people. There are TONS of contraceptives available. And never had you ever heard of STD’s?? For Christ’s sake!!

I don't have much else to add that my BR buddies haven't already said. This book made me yawn, roll my eyes, cringe, skim and yawn some more. Is this really the same author that wrote Surviving Raine? I wish I could turn back time and unread this.
P.S. I forgive you Jeanne. Again! Lol :)

Chloe Ellison is an uptight 27 year old woman living in Cincinnati, Ohio working as a project manager. She is your typical good girl. She lives a boring, sheltered life where she doesn't take risks, and lives by her routine. She is innocent, shy, & all about rules. She collects action figure dolls, and secretly wishes she could be more like her super heroines on her shelf. One evening while out with her best friend Mare, Chloe has a bit too much to drink, and literally collides with a huge, stunning brick wall of a man covered from head to toe in tattoos. He is nowhere near her type, but just looking at him had her hormones racing.

This tattooed, sexy strangers body was like a colorful mosaic she couldn't quit staring at. He was absolutely mouthwateringly gorgeous! After falling into him, Chloe continues to see him all evening everywhere she turns. He ends up taking care of her that night, and making sure she's safe. They share a kiss that is incredible, and even though he's a perfect gentleman, Chloe is all hot and bothered for him.

The following day Chloe finds out her mystery man's name is Aiden Hunter. He lives in Miami, FL., but is in Ohio for the week on some business. Chloe is shook up by how attracted she is to Aiden. She's never been into bad boys, and has always liked clean cut men, but this man makes her want to step out of her carefully structured box & experience some excitement. She decides to let loose a little, and heads to Miami with Aiden for some fun in the sun. There is just something about him she is drawn to.

Before meeting Aiden Chloe always thought before she acted. Now, she is starting to realize she was missing the joy in life. He has taught her to live life to the fullest & not be afraid to take chances. He makes her feel alive, and she feels safe & content with him. As they grow closer, the sexual tension is on fire. When things really heat up between this couple... just WOW!!! DELISH!!!

I have seen some mixed reviews for this book, but I really enjoyed it! It has some serious moments, but also a lot of humor. I loved how Chloe thought he was this big bad criminal at first. She totally judged him by his appearance, but then practically drooled all over his yumminess that she just couldn't resist! ;)) This beautiful, loving, gentle man was everything she wasn't, & she learns a lot about herself & living from him. He is spontaneous, adventurous, & deliciously dirty, but also so so sweet. Who doesn't love a massive teddy bear of a guy covered in tats who loves to cuddle & cook? I was swooning throughout the book over Aiden! :D

-I couldn't deny my body's reaction to him.

-I couldn't seem to stop myself from remembering the feeling of his lips on mine.

-Watching him cook breakfast was the sexiest thing I had ever witnessed.

-He didn't blink or move, just looked at me like he really was a hunter, and I was his prey. I wanted to be his prey.

Wherever they keep the official entries for men your mother warned you about, this guy’s picture would be at the top of the list.

In a very quick and crude summary, Alarm is about a ordinary girl who meets a man who would in ordinary circumstance have no place in her structured, mundane routine. Following some extraordinary circumstances said girl, Chloe breaks out of her mould by taking up the challenge set by mystery man, Aiden. One week of spontaneity with him in Miami. A week that unbeknownst to him, results in changing them both for the better.

“I watched you change. I watched you turn into a completely new and better person right then. It was one of the most beautiful things I had ever seen in my life.”

Although I enjoyed Chloe's transformation, her overthinking nature irked me and as a result I found it hard to bond with her.

Aiden however, I found throughly sweet a complete juxtaposition to his looks which actually endeared him towards me further. That being said, for all his sweetness; he's rough where it counts.

My overwhelming feeling throughout and after reading this book?

Mmmmmmmeh.

description

Shay Savage is a brilliant writer who has written some ridiculously amazing stuff, including one of my top all time favorites, Transcendence.

She has blown my mind many a time.

However, I just found myself kind of bored during many points in this book. Also, I think this is the first thing I've read from her written from a female POV and, sadly, I just didn't dig it.

Despite the rating I've given this book, I am a fan of Shay Savage's work. I loved Surviving Raine and the Evan Arden trilogy. However, this was very okay, and with no intended disrespect to the author, not one of her best in my opinion.

The beginning started out slowly but the book began to really take off around the midway mark. That lasted for a while but the things I had issues with also gained momentum, leaving me disappointed and disliking the heroine, Chloe. She was judgmental, assuming and often saw things from her very limited and naive pov. Yes, she was sheltered. She was raised to exercise extreme caution with everything in her life leaving her somewhat boring but wholly predictable. But come on, you're an adult, lady.

She judged Aiden ALL THE TIME. She saw his tats and built body and assumed he was a drug dealer with a shady past. Even when he said things in direct opposition to what she believed about him, she still held the same stupid judgements! She never asked him questions to clear the air, never verbalized her concerns but lived in a bubble of denial until everything came crashing down. I understand the point of the story was for her to see the error of her ways and learn from experience. But being in her head and being privy to her convoluted ways of thinking negated whatever growth she went through.

She would also get 'alarm' bells in her head with anything outside her comfort zone. That became very irritating after awhile, because she always ignored those 'alarms' but as the reader we were left suffering through them. Chloe was also quite dense at times, ignoring the most obvious things. She never put two and two together until it became blatant to everyone in existence as to what was happening. It's almost like she was missing a logic chip in her mind. Living in Ohio and traveling to Florida to be with someone, eventually you decide on a course of action but with her it was like pulling teeth, ugh.

Aiden was a great character although he could have been more forthcoming. His reasons for not being so were weak and lacked depth. He was the best thing about this book but not enough to change the tide for me. Another plus was it was HOT. SS is great at sexy time. Anyways, read this if you've added it and decide for yourself but for me, it was disappointing and repetitive.

4.25 Refreshing Stars!

What happens when an insanely controlled, scheduled project manager meets a scary, tattooed bad-boy in a bar? Does she run in the opposite direction, maintaining her perfectly controlled and boring life? Or does she throw caution to the wind for once in her life, ignoring all the internal Alarms chiming in her head?

 photo CA4E231F-36AD-448D-B970-E2D58297DC2C_zpswbr84qkj.jpg

Alarm by Shay Savage is unlike any other book she's written. Written entirely in the heroine's POV, it's refreshing and brings to light both living life to the fullest by taking chances and also not to judge a book by its cover.

Chloe lives a solitary, structured, taking no chances at failing, everything-planned-to-a-T life. Her inner monologue is riddled with conversations with her 12" superhero heroines proudly showcased in her condo...Wonder Woman, Spider Woman, Buffy the VampireSlayer. They protect her place from intruders, empower her.

When Chloe accepts an invitation for drinks with friends at a local bar, she finds herself quickly drunk, her tolerance not high. Aiden Hunter is her savior when she stumbles to her car, obviously too drunk to realize she's unsafe to drive. Aiden is everything her parents warned her against...dark, brooding, tatted, and alluring.

****************************

The first half of the book was a bit slow for me. I'm so used to Ms. Savage's suspenseful antihero type reads, I had to acclimate myself to Chloe and Aiden's story. It had the feel of New Adult with the naive, inexperienced heroine but both H/h are older than that genre (I believe late 20's). Apparently it was just Ms. Savage's way of building their relationship one step at a time...and in the end, it worked.

Aiden can see a woman that takes no chances, lives no life and when he offers her to go to his home on the beach in Miami, she surprisingly accepts. Chloe's life truly began during that trip.

Still, in the back of her mind, she knows Aiden harbors secrets, probably none of them lawful. Her mind constantly battling the desire to be set free from all her self-imposed constraints with the inner voice screaming Alarm.

The second half of the book sped up and we get our Shay Savage awesomeness I know and love. Woah, was Aiden a dirty talker. It took a while for them to get there but when they did, it was scorching! Very worth the wait!

Chloe's life is nothing but predictability. She's safe, content... happy? No. But she doesn't know what else to be. That is, until a tattooed hunk of a man literally bumps into her. He could show her how to live. But there's something about Aiden that makes all the alarms go off in her head.

Alarm is a surprisingly sweet romance. It has a little of everything; humour, dirty talk, friendship, angst, mystery and action.

Our heroine is a little.... weak? She's a little vulnerable, pretty sheltered but at the same time life loving and seemingly lonely.

Our hero was just... lovely. He was sweet, kind and generous. Hawt too.

I enjoyed seeing them together, exploring and building up to friendship, lust and love. It was slow paced and had some very romantic moments.

Of course, I could have done without the 'condom or no condom' in the middle of sex. I wished that all the action parts and revelations were spread throughout. And for some reason.... it didn't feel like Shay. It was pretty New Adult – the 'bumping' into each other, the bad boy/good girl, the 'one boyfriend heroine'... And I dunno, it just doesn't come close to the likes of Surviving Raine and Transcendence.

Phew. Okay.
Things I don't like in books:
1. Virgin Heroines.
2. Manwhore heroes.
3. Insta-lust.
4. Insta-love.
5. Weak heroines.
6. Unprotected sex.
7. Secretive heroes.
8. Cheating.
9. Love Triangles.
10. Giggling.
...
I'm pretty sure there's more, but that's all I can think of right now.
This book had the third, fifth, sixth, seventh and tenth. Maybe more. I didn't stick around to find out.
This is the second book that I DNFed by Ms. Savage, I'm sad to say. It was all in the heroine's POV. Which was a surprise, not a pleasant one IMO.
Our "leading" heroine is Chloe. Her life is pretty predictable, boring even. God, SHE was boring. I read to forget my boring life, not to be bored to death. She was just SO polite, she always, ALWAYS, thought before she spoke. Three times. THREE! I'm probably a monkey compared to her. She considered everything to be rude. She never spoke her mind. She always planned everything.
So she's at a bar with her friends. She gets a little too drunk and goes to the bathroom and then as she's stepping out, she collides with a "brick wall".
Very original. I have never read that before.
Aiden is covered in tattoos, he's always smiling and grinning and beaming (God, I read that word too many times to count) He's basically the exact opposite of her. And every time something weird happens or he acts vague about his job, an Alarm! rings in her head.
Subtle.
Blah blah blah, fast forward a few days later, he asks her to come with him to Miami on a vacation so she can have fun and let loose. At first she resists and then she's like, oh, why not? If he wanted to kill me or rape me, he would have done that already.
So she goes and they have an AMAZING time. But let me tell you, I didn't. There was no sexual tension. They were just having boring conversations. No heated glances or stolen kisses or heavy breaths. He just ignored her and she was so bloody desperate. The inner monologue made me wanna tear my hair out.
description
I'm guessing the author wanted to try something different? All her past heroes were possessive and scowled and growled and all that caveman-y shit. This one was almost...sweet. I admit, this heroine wasn't much different from all the others. All timid and shy.
And then suddenly at 40ish% The hero all but teared her clothes off. I thought he was sweet? Nu-uh. And then there was the dirty talk, which made me cringe so hard. It was basically along the lines of “That’s it! Yeah! Oh, yeah, I can feel you…fuck, you feel so…fucking…good! I’m gonna come in you, baby. Oh, fuck, Chloe…”
Lovely. It reminded me of porno I watched back in the day.
Did I mention that he had “the biggest cock she had ever seen in her life”?
Anyway, enough of this rant. I'm getting a kink in my neck from writing this damn review. My friend finished it and told me that it gets better, that it picks up, but it's too late, damnit! I'm supposed to be hooked after 25%. That's my motto. If I can't connect with the main characters after going through half the book then it's surely hopeless cause.

YES! YES. This is what I've been lacking for far too long ladies and gents of Goodreads. What is it that I lacked you say? DANGER. EXCITEMENT. A SEXY TATTED BABE OF A MAN. And I'm not just talking about ANY man. I'm talking about Aidan Hunter.

Aidan Hunter

Chloe Ellison

When they first met I was like...

Then the week they spent together had me like...

But then when Chloe was getting all suspicious...

THEN when shit hit the fan it had me going...

And when I found out the story behind Aidan I just went...

But by the end, the book had me going....

So all in all I really enjoyed this book because as a person who schedules almost everything in her life, I learned how fulfilling life can be when you just break free from all the "what if's" and rush out into life not worrying about tomorrow but instead letting it worry about itself.

3.5 Finding-some-adventure Stars

I’ll be honest. I was surprised with this one. I usually enjoy Savage reads and although I didn’t dislike Alarm, I just found it overall… boring.

First off, I was hooked with the beginning because it kind of gave me some foreshadowing, which I hate, but this time I was okay with it. I wanted to know who Aiden and why does he burst out with a gun?! I was all over that.

Summary

Chloe lives a normal life. It suits her and she’s fine with it. She wants to be a little more adventurous and has a one night stand with Aiden. Aiden is taken by Chloe but he’s only visiting and has to go home the next day.

He offers Chloe an invitation. He wants her to come home with him to Florida, where they both can get to know each other.

What’s so crazy about this storyline is that. Who offer’s their one night hook-up an invite to go home with them in a different city?! Chloe is very intrigued by Aiden and she wants to be a little wild and she agrees.

Overall Thoughts

I thought that would be the beginning of an intense story and we would find out why Aiden is the way he is. How come he acts mild but is really badass and what's the reason for a gun? I am sad to say, it’s not what I thought (I had a thought of theories. I read too many books because I wasn't even close).

Most of the book is about Chloe and Aiden doing new things that they have never experience, like going to the beach and sky diving. I know, snore fest. It’s really cute and the sexual tension is nice, but I was waiting for the shoe to drop. I wanted to know what Aiden’s deal was. I eventually forgot about it because it wasn’t really the focus of the story.

Once we find out who Aiden was, well I wasn’t just mildly disappointed, I was a lot disappointed. I was kind of like…. Okay big deal?

There’s no point to the tattoos and Chloe’s paranoia. She kept on thinking he was going to sell her or something. It was kind of silly.

It was an easy ready with an okay storyline. I am not sure if this is for Savage fans because usually she writes really intense angsty reads and this wasn’t one of them. I guess if you like two people hooking up and getting to know each other with mild tension, then this one is for you.

Chloe isn’t the type of girl to take risks. Every move is planned, ever word and response is carefully chosen. But things are about to change for this bored girl when she crashes into a man that is bound and determined to show her how to live, despite every warning her brain is screaming at her.

Aiden is all muscle and tattoos. And secrets. Lots of secrets.

When one drunken night places these two in the right place at the right time, Aiden can’t resist wanting to push her boundaries. To get her to do something outside of her comfort zone. To attempt to breathe life into her dull existence.

One night turns in Ohio turns into one week in Miami where Aiden pushes Chloe to experience what it’s like to live. But as they grow closer, Chloe finds herself pushing back every warning alarm that is going off in her head about the vague responses to questions about his life. She knows that he has secrets, ones that scare her... but after just a few days with this man she isn’t willing to walk away just yet.

For fans of Shay Savage, getting a story from her from the female point of view was exciting. I loved the voice her stories are told when she lets the guy take the lead, so having a woman, who was reserved and a little insecure tell this story, well this reader was excited.

I usually struggle with the heroine in a novel. Mostly because the author creates a weak, insecure and often less than bright character. We get told over and over again as to why they are like this. It wasn’t that Chloe wasn’t any of those things, in fact she was most of those things; the difference was that we got to know those things by watching the character interact with both Aiden, her friends and ultimately inside her own head. I found while reading this, that it’s not those characteristics I hate in a character, but rather I hate them being forced upon me. For Chloe, these were traits I understood by observing her and getting to know her as she told this story.

Screenshot_12

Aiden was an easy sell. I love a damaged bad-boy, the more misunderstood the better. The more broken the wetter the panties get. And boy did Aiden have some serious cracks. There were parts of his back story that I anticipated coming out but even with some elements of predictability, there were enough shifts in the story that you never uncovered the entire picture. Even as he had his moments where he was all sexy-alpha-caveman – there were times when his sweetness was just beautiful. Moments while in bed, lazily made comments – moments when you saw how much her excitement for trying something new made his heart smile. Those moments were perfect. But one thing that stood out for me was his mouth.

Dirty talker alert.

Screenshot_14

I fell in love with his foul mouth. With as much restraint as he showed to Chloe, he let all of that go once he got the green light. The beast was unleashed.

I could not put this book down. I figured that after a long day of work, I’d get halfway and pick it up the next day, but I stayed up till the wee hours reading. Needing to know how their story ended. With the bang of the prologue setting you up for devastation, I knew once I got to the halfway mark, there was just no stopping me.

For those who have only read one or two books of Shay’s this will come across much different (especially from Surviving Raine – but seriously, that book was in a class of its own). The voice of this story is much different since we aren’t getting the male lead here. It was refreshing to get this side of her writing after reading her other works. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of this story.

This is really hard for me to review this book because I had high hopes. I've heard so much good things about Shay Savage books. And then here I'm so disappointed! Please recommend me a good book from her because I know she's famous for her male pov and I want to forget this one.

description

For some parts I liked the book. I gave it 3 stars because it kept me entertained and I wanted to know what will happen,... but urgh yet another book where the heroine ruins everything for me!
And even Aiden wasn't so great. I thought I was having a dirty talker and at the end there's what maybe 2- 3 moments when he talks dirty to Chloe

description

Aiden is sweet guy, really attentive and he cares for Chloe immediately. There's a pull towards each other really strong from the start and I kinda like to see their feelings grow. I've loved to see him try to pull her out of her comfort zone.

Chloe is a girl who lived a boring life. She is always doing the right thing, at the right time with the right people. She doesn't know what a good adventure is, because she was raised that way. I'm glad that at some point, I've seen Chloe's character changed and become somebody who takes chances, who stand for herself,...

Chloe and Aiden are good for each other. They have lived a different lives, have had different way to cope with the loss they both had in their lives

description

They are a couple things that were off for me such as the ending of each chapter - Repeating "And with that ...." was kind of boring - Their first sex scene was awful - they were so reckless (and not in a good way). I didn't really like the ending which was too predictable

☆ I received an ARC on behalf of Shay's marketing/publicity in exchange for an honest review. Thank you! ☆

Don’t you wish you could be the superhero of your own happily ever after? Why not take the chance? Why not, LIVE a little?

Chloe Ellison--

description

A 27-year old woman, living on the straight and narrow, keeping to the comforts of her norm and avoids acts of precariousness at all costs.

“Stay away from dangerous situations. The unknown is often dangerous.”

While at the bar with some friends, she meets a mysterious tatted stranger and her world is turned instantly upside down. Aiden is everything she SHOULD NOT WANT in a man and partner... Everything her Mama and Daddy warned her to stay from...

“Tattoos weren’t my thing. I wasn’t into guys like that. I liked nice, straight-edged guys who had office jobs and drove Toyotas. Regardless, I still thought he was kind of beautiful. Though I couldn’t make out the details of the designs on his flesh, they still left the impression of telling a story—an intricate and beautiful story.”

And yet, Chloe is instantly ensnared by the enigmatic newcomer. He makes her question herself... her way of living. And inspires her to want to take risks, take some chances, and perhaps do something as crazy as fall in love….

But, what to do when the person that you’re falling for, is keeping secrets from you? And what happens when those deep, dark secrets catch up to you? What will she choose?

“I never considered myself a rash person. I was the exact opposite of spontaneous. I always thought things through before I did them. I rarely opened my mouth without thinking first. I thought the impact of my actions of other people before I did anything.

Then I met him.

The alarm in my head went off immediately.

I ignored it.”

Aiden Hunter--

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

A 27-year old man (but a tad younger than our female protagonist!), as beautiful as much as he is tortured with demons of his past.

Aiden feels that there is no hope, no redemption for himself until he lays eyes upon Chloe.

“I just felt drawn to you, like maybe you were what I needed to keep me going. I was starting to give up hope, and I thought you could…I don’t know…bring me out of it.”

He constantly rebuffs and deflects questions associated about himself and his past, but when it finally comes catching up to him… Aiden must once and for all confront the skeletons in his closet to pave way to his future. Or risk, becoming the hunted of his own damnation and losing his greatest hope for atonement.

description

After all, what is life without a little risk? And what does it mean to truly be alive?

description

“When I looked into your eyes after we were back on the ground, do you know how you looked?.”
I shook my head.

“Alive,” he said.

“Really truly alive. Your eyes were bright and without fear. You looked like you could conquer the world right then.”

Can Aiden and Chloe truly ever have their HEA?

“As much as you talk about living for the here and now, you are completely stuck in the past…”

Or will Aiden’s haunting past and Chloe’s inability to branch out of her safety zone succumb them both?

“I felt like I was back up in the plane, looking down at the earth thousands of feet below, and preparing to jump. Excitement and terror merged, and I could no longer tell one from the other.” - Chloe

“This is life, Chloe. Live it.” - Aiden

So, my verdict?-

#A great, light with a sprinkle of angst and dark—romance, filled with sensual promise and a head to toe tatted alpha male who will make you ladies swoon!

As for Chloe, I really liked her character. She is one of those people who on the outside looks calm and content with her life and what she is doing, and yet, she is dying to break out of her chains and break free.

description

I could seriously see myself in her in how she rationalized situations in her head and could understand her quick to judge, pre-conceived presumptions that she had of Aiden and the world. I would have done and said the same exact things. I’m not saying that she was right in that, but come on, EVERYONE has their moments of judging and making opinions before actually knowing from time to time. Chloe is no different. She simply was a sheltered girl living in a straight-laced world and way of thinking. That’s it, really.

I know that author Shay Savage wrote this novel as a standalone, but, I’m hoping that she’ll also write follow ups for some of the secondary characters she introduces in Alarm. I really LOVED Aiden’s group of friends-- Redeye, Lance and his girlfriend Jennifer, as well as Lo and Mo.♥ I would definitely love stories for them too and perhaps, Chloe’s BFF Mare (Mary). Maybe a Mare and Redeye pairing? Hmmm Hmmm? *Pretty please?!*

Anyway, a great, great story of love, loss, grief, and moving forward to new beginnings!!

This was an interesting read for me - There are things I enjoyed and there are things that made me want to DNF.

The biggest issue that I had with this book is the unbelievable, whirlwind romance. Unfortunately, this set the tone for the story. It's difficult to accept the storyline when I'm struggling with the romance between the MC's.

However, Aiden and Chloe were great characters. Shay Savage created MC's who were strong where the other was weak and it was beautiful. Bonus...Aiden was an Alpha in bedroom :oP

This could have been a really good read, but the beginning of their relationship dampened my enjoyment.

This turned out to be super sweet with a good story behind it. However, it was a tad boring. I don't think I'd ever describe a Shay Savage book as boring, but it really didn't pick up until around 50%. But once it picked up, it felt like it was nonstop until the end. Aiden was passionate and adorable, and I totally loved him. And Chloe, although a tad mental with her inner Alarm, was a good lead as well.

Although this wasn't as action packed or fast paced as her other books, I'd definitely recommend it because I know many GR friends who've loved it.

This was a pretty decent read, and I DID like it. I just didn't LOVE it, and I think therein lies my problem. I'm used to being blown away by Shay Savage and although this wasn't a bad read by any stretch of the imagination, it just didn't quite hit the spot I was hoping it would. In other words, I could totally put it down.

I think my main two issues were 1) Chloe, the heroine and 2) the predictability of the plot. Chloe wasn't a bad heroine per se, she just wasn't very interesting or easily relatable. I understand what Savage was trying to do here. This was supposed to be a greatly shy and sheltered heroine, and I've shared those qualities at varying degrees in life. It just doesn't make for very engaging fiction. Some of her thoughts seemed like they belonged more in the mind of a timid pre-teen girl than a grown up, talking to her female action figurines included. She was just a bit too shy and hesitant in many aspects, even when the hero does something so self-sacrificing that being firmly in his camp would have been a no-brainer. Instead it felt like she prevaricated a bit too long, and it took a while to warm up to her. I much prefer it when Savage does male POVs because she excels at that.

About the plot, it seems we were being led to believe there was this aura of danger and suspense about the hero, which there was, but it didn't quite pan out the way it was set up. I did see right through that so the whole revelation of who the hero really was and his backstory didn't come as a surprise. Overall, nothing here really had my heart racing or my emotions engaged.

Good enough, just not great. I still worship the land Shay Savage walks on and will read anything else by her.

I really enjoyed Surviving Raine, Evan Arden Trilogy, and Transcendence by the author, but I can’t point out anything I enjoy in Alarm:(

27 years-old Chloe is a narrator that I find very difficult to like. Her character is an unpleasant mixture of immaturity, idiocy, and hypocrisy.

The romance between LCs?
The development of their relationship made no sense to me. I fell into IDC territory rather quickly.

I accepted life’s risks-the joys and the heartaches-everything that it meant to live.

I get that there is a good underlying message in book, but the plot is just over-weighted with annoying internal monologue, weak storyline about the hero, boring dialogue and unprotected sex scenes. Sorry, Alarm didn’t work for me.

If you'd have asked me before I read this if I ever imagined myself rating a Shay Savage book 2 stars, I'd have laughed in your face.
Was this book really written by my beloved Shay Savage? I don't know what went wrong. No, that's a lie. It was everything. Normally when I write reviews I'm complaining about how the author should stick to writing just female POV. However, Savage is the one author I would request never write a female POV ever again. The male mind? That's what she's brilliant at. I mean she's so amazing at it that I've actually got "I live for a Shay Savage male POV" in my goodreads bio.

I was completely bored with the heroines thoughts and the plot was so underwhelming.

This definitely won't keep me from reading her books in the future because let's face it...I'm obsessed with this author. BUT...only if she sticks to make POV.
