She Tried the Window
While on vacation in Carmel, a subtropical town in Southern California, student filmmaker, Eric De la Cruz has little time to unwind before hearing of a banshee at Dearborn Manor who stalks the beaches at night. It's said that her screams foretell death.
The following afternoon, Eric encounters a friend in town for a funeral. She invites him, along with five other friends, to stay for an extended weekend. But that very night, the banshee’s scream is heard throughout the manor. By the following afternoon, a freak accident claims one life.
Everyone in the community, especially those who stay at the manor, are sure that the vengeful ghost of Melissa Dearborn is determined to kill again. But Eric isn’t convinced. He finds a threatening letter in a drawer, discovers counterfeit art on display, and a shattered mirror along the beach. With the help of an unlikely friend, Eric and Penny must solve the mystery of the banshee and expose the real killer, or become the lastest victims at the Dearborn Manor.

"She Tried The Window" is a refreshing mystery novel filled to the brim with suspense, thrills, and masterful plot twists! L.K. Scott is an author to keep your eye on! This is an expertly crafted and inventive murder mystery guaranteed to keep your eyes glued to the pages all night long.
The book starts out with an intense and emotional death. You'll find yourself attaching to the characters instantly as L.K. Scott knows just how to play on your heartstrings. The characters are all incredibly realistic with several layers that the author flawlessly unveils with each chapter. Not only will the characters come to life, but the world around you will form in a hauntingly lifelike way. I felt L.K. Scott sucking me into his world from the first chapter and it only became more vivd from there! Before I knew it, I was fully submerged and captivated by the exceptional world the author created. I wasn't just reading about this; I was part of it. It wasn't a mere want to know what happened next; it was a heart-pounding, sweaty-palms, breath-hitching NEED to know what would happen next.
The writing is incredibly visual and the story is hauntingly beautiful - sure to stick with you forever and ever! I admire the author's talent to no end. I'm an avid reader and mysteries are one of my favorite genres to read in. Most of the time, murder mysteries fall short or are predictable. NOT THIS ONE! SHE TRIED THE WINODW shines high above the plentiful mystery/thrillers out there making it a MUST READ for fans of the genre as well as fans of expertly crafted stories! This book far exceeded my expectations and hopes. I am definitely excited to read more from remarkable author, L.K. Scott!

Scott's writing style reminds me of classic mystery writers like Agatha Christie, Hitchcock, and for some odd reason the fictional Jessica Fletcher. If you grew up enjoying Matlock, Murder She Wrote, or Perry Mason you will feel right at home in Scott's world. That's not to say the novel isn't modern. It's set in modern day Carmel, CA and the protagonist is a former film student, who just broke up with his boyfriend, not your typical detective. Oh FYI, this is novel is part of a series, so you might want to read them in order, or you can be dumb like I was and read them out of order. Choice is yours.
Anyway, poor Eric is just trying to chill on the beach when naturally hijinks ensue. Someone just has to die and then the townies have to blame it on a ghost. Wait...ghost? Yup. Good thing Eric is there to solve the mystery! The other characters are colorful and the writing fast paced and witty. Scott is a new writer and I think if you enjoy a good whodunit, you'll want to add him to your writers to watch.

I received this ebook in exchange for an honest review. I haven’t read the first book in the series, so am not familiar with Eric’s personality before the tragic events and betrayal from his previous relationship. However, Mr. Scott nailed the inner turmoil and resulting behaviour perfectly.
The story flowed well and had good pacing. Even in Eric’s “downtime” there wasn’t any lag or dragging. Mr. Scott’s descriptions are quite unique and really solidify a mental image of the surroundings. I enjoyed that aspect very much. I liked being introduced to the poem that the book title is derived from. It worked very well with the story.
The only downside was that I found the story a little confusing at the end reveal. Also, while the characters are distinct and, in some cases very likeable, not all of them were as fleshed out as well as they could be.
Overall, it was a good read and I’d be interested to read the sequel to watch Eric’s personal growth as his wounds heal.

Not a bad who done it!
Talk about walking into a hornet nest! Eric is taking some time to get his life back on track, after being accused of murder, only to be invited, unknowingly, into a rich families lies, deceit and murder. Good mix in the cast of characters. Interesting little twists and turns to a satisfying end.
This book, like most others I've been reading lately, has been very poorly edited. Spell checker doesn't catch the missing or misplaced words, nor the grammar mistakes. Someone really needs to actually read the manuscripts before they're published.
