The desire that exploded in Mastered continues its conflagration in Dominated—from the New York Times bestselling author of the Surrender Trilogy.

To save her, he had to betray her...

In Drake’s shadowy world, his enemies would exploit any weakness he had in order to bring him to his knees, and so he’s never allowed himself to care about anyone...never exhibited any vulnerability, and it made him a force to be reckoned with. Until Evangeline—his angel. A woman who slipped past his defenses like no one had ever managed. She was his to protect and ultimately, to do that, he had to do the unthinkable and drive the only good thing in his world away.

But he will stop at nothing to get her back...

Devastated and destroyed, Evangeline doesn’t know what made Drake turn on her in such a shocking manner. She only knows she’ll never be the same. He once freed her from all her inhibitions, only now she is a prisoner to never-ending pain. But when Drake finds her again, she realizes there is more to his world than she ever imagined, and she must decide if she can once more trust—and submit—to the man who holds her wounded heart in his hands. And he must convince her of just how far he’ll go to regain her love and forgiveness.

I love Maya Banks. I've read about a dozen of her books, and have never been let down.

Until now.

*sigh* This sucks. Because I really wanted Dominated to blow me away. I wasn't a huge fan of Mastered, but that ending - how could I NOT read Dominated as soon as I could get my hands on it? Dominated was the second chance to get me to fall in love with this couple and believe that they were perfect for each other. I wanted Drake to come alive for me and I wanted Evangeline to grow a pair of lady balls and I wanted these two to fight and laugh and become REAL. And they just... didn't.

Let's start with the title... DOMINATED. Sadly, there was very little dominating going on in this book. Someone needs to take Drake's man card away. Seriously. I've read enough dom/sub books to know what domination looks like, and this wasn't it. More often than not, Evangeline was in control. Drake walked around on eggshells most of the time, not wanting to upset his precious Angel so that she would never leave him again.

I grew increasingly weary of Evangeline as the book went on. The fresh-off-the-turnip-truck, doe-eyed innocent act wore very thin, as did her continued self-deprecation. GAH - I wanted so much more from her! I wanted her to make Drake suffer a bit more for his transgressions. I wanted her to decide to go back to school so that she could continue on the path she was on before, but this time, do it with a parter and a lover by her side. And above all, I wanted her to stop talking about what a loser she thought she was. Watching everyone fall all over themselves to reassure her constantly was a bit ridiculous.

I still like the Enforcers. Although I got tired of them constantly worshipping at the alter of Evangeline, I think they have some interesting back stories to be told.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention one major faux pas in this book.

I don't know. I just really wasn't feeling this book. I really didn't like either Drake or Evangeline. And, I didn't believe them as a couple. Despite all this, I did enjoy the Enforcers, and I think Silas' story will be a good one. I hope.

nothing big to write home about!
The conclusion to Drake and Evangeline's turmoiled relationship turned out to be just that a "turmoil" of faux and begging for forgivness, trials and errors...

God, never have i read about such "black and white" characters...

He was a big bad wolf, never loved, never knowing how to love, and with a big thorn in his paw...

And she was a fuckin saint, good, better, the best, ever forgiving, ever compationate, ever loving...dear lord, i could burst into flames just cause i rolled my eyes on her "saintly soul" and forgiving kind actions...pffft (read my lips-she's a doormat wrapped up in an angelic form) and she managed to pull the thorn from big bad wolf's paw and she kissed it and made it better.

And that's basically the best part of the story cause my shallow, sarcastic, sensually hightened persona very much enjoyed in the sex scenes between the dominant wolf and his little angel...
Cause he dominated...real good. *insert sly grin*

But other than that, it was cheesy, repetitive and a bit annoying, especially with her "two goody shoes" battling her eyes and crying all the time...gah

Shadow's review posted at Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

Dominated is the second half of the first book in a trilogy planned by Maya Banks. The first half, Mastered was intriguing and well written. The heroine, Evangeline, is somewhat naive and far too trusting, but is at least believable. The cliff hanger at the end of the book was frustrating but the rest of the book was enjoyable. The same cannot be said for the second half.

For one thing, although Drake left her devastated at the end of the first book, she forgives him with little effort beyond some tears. This sets her up for an even bigger betrayal in this book. Without trying to give away the plot, this heroine is just too stupid to be believed. Drake is supposed to come off as a man in love but doesn't act like it. What Evangeline sees in this first class jerk is beyond me. His men are far more likable and caring, and their loyalty to Drake isn't really explained. Neither is Evangeline's-she should have kicked him to the curb and taken up with his second in command!

The plot felt contrived, the characters almost cartoon-like, and the story line is definitely not up to the author's usual standard. The heroine suffers from a lack of self-respect throughout the book and nothing that happens changes that.

While I usually enjoy Maya Banks books, this one left me feeling totally let down.

Spoilers ahead

Yes I actually read this after the disaster of book 1 but curiosity and all that jazz

So this picks up where the previous book ended, Drake finally manages to track down Evangeline and after some pretty, pretty begging he convinces her to give him another chance

Things settle back into the usual routine of Evangeline cooking and baking her way into men's hearts everywhere, they fuck each other and the the dude again, her parents visit and we are left clueless as to why or if her best friend's really turned on her. Meanwhile Evangeline rolls through life blushing and sweet

We get a bit of OW drama from a woman Drake once was with and whom he also shared with his friend. Said woman confronted Evangeline and she was able to stand up for herself. Drake of course soothes the hurt away with a good dicking and an explanation that yes he'd shared his women as he'd done Evangeline but she was basically a special snowflake

Drake doesn't do all his business on the right side of the law and the police appraoche Evangeline who hurries to let him on she's got his back, Drake had a brief moment of doubt as to Evangeline's loyalty but she went running to him proving herself loyal. The police eventually raid and make it sound like Evangeline was their informer, when they leave Drake turns on her, ordering her out of his club, his home, his life . Dumbass I mean Evangeline goes down on her knees asking him to give her time to prove her innocence he tells her to get out and she leaves a pathetic sobbing mess

Silas takes her in and she eventually finds out she's pregnant (see this is one of my problems with threesome sex without there being a triad. I found myself counting back to see who was the father but I think enough time had passed so the baby was Drake's) this pregnancy propels her to go back to her parents but she's kidnapped as she does so.

Drake and his guys rescue her but she still goes to her parents home leaving his once again pleading ass, behind

Off course he goes after her eventually and he's so sad and broken that she has to take him back

Thankfully...the end!

I liked Silas ,Maddox and Justice hopefully they get women with a semblance of brain cells

It's so BORING AND LAME
I will not continue the series, because I don't give a flying fuck what happens anymore. It's a waste of my time, and although I have a little to for reading, I prefer to read a GOOD BOOK

"Angel, you were-are- the only good thing in my life, and God help me but I couldn't do the right thing and let you go. I had to have you. I needed you. I still need you."

This is the conclusion to Evangeline and Drake's story and it was a good one. You must read Mastered to understand fully what is going on. I didn't think that Drake could screw up worse then was he did in Mastered but holy crap, yes he does. I mean I like get it but then don't. I was kind of getting irritated with both characters. Drake makes some hasty decisions that I just couldn't believe. I felt Evangeline wasn't that strong of a character then what I wanted. She totally depended on him, which I can understand to a point but not fully. The saving grace for me with this story was the secondary characters. Silas, Maddox, Justice, Zander, the beloved bodyguards. Lord, they just did it for me. I am so super excited for Silas to be next. I fell in lust with him instantly and by the end I was full gaga over him. Cant wait to see what happens

Emotional roller coaster…

After the way Mastered ended, I have been impatiently waiting for this follow-up story, which takes that emotional cliffhanger and just keeps on going…

Evangeline and Drake met by chance but the connection they had was hot and fiery from the start. Evangeline was sweet, stubborn and devoted to her family and friends, and now Drake. He was her dominant and her love, there was nothing she wouldn’t do for him. Drake really didn’t know what to make of this woman who wanted nothing from him except… him. He was rich, handsome and charming; women wanted him but for more than just him…. She was too trusting and he didn’t trust enough. Chances are, there was going to be trouble.

And trouble there was! Two steps forward and three steps back could characterize the roller coaster ride that this loving-but-at-odds couple are on. Emotional, devastating and painful can only describe the feelings on both sides when misunderstandings and betrayal dog their every step. Evangeline, despite the knocks she keeps taking, refuses to give in to bitterness and anger. Learning more about Drake and the legacy of his childhood brings a lot more to the story as the two have to dig deep if they are going to make things work.

I loved this story and the highs and lows it brought with it. Evangeline and Drake’s dynamic is intriguing and highly entertaining to watch. What I found irresistible were Drake’s ‘men’, who were an integral part of this story once again. Maddox… sigh… and Silas! Oh my goodness, Silas... I want to wrap him up and take him home…

Please, please say there are going to more stories in this series… I recommend, yes, Silas to be next on deck! ~ Diane, 4.5 stars

~~~
Dominated is the follow-up to Mastered. We continue our love affair with Evangeline and Drake, following them through the darkness that is their relationship. From lies, to deceit, to so much more…
Is their relationship doomed from the start? It seems that way. Evangeline is a broken woman. She’s worked her whole life to support her parents and take care of them. Always sacrificing for others, until she meets Drake and he provides her with a different type of life. Then, the tables turn and she finds herself lost and broken, again. Drake will stop at nothing to find and bring his angel back to him, except… tell her the truth. The total truth.
Dominated was fast paced and intriguing. I was flipping pages at an insane rate, trying to figure out what Drake was keeping from Evangeline. However, my real love isn’t with Drake and his angel, but with the secondary characters. All of those hot, hunky men who are intertwined in their lives and are integral in taking care of Evangeline and keeping Drake safe. Now that’s what I want more of.
This is a well written story, with a fast moving plot that keeps you entertained. I hope that we’ll see more of those hot men in books to come! ~ Heather, 4 stars
This story starts right where book one ended and I swear I held my breath the first 20% of it! It was intense. It definitely pulled me in right from the start.
I really liked the overall storyline and intensity happening. There is so much turmoil and pain going on for both Drake and Evangeline. I was completely fascinated by Drake and his dominate ways. Loved learning Drake’s details and seeing his raw, vulnerable moments as he really starts changing and opening up. As far as Evangeline goes, I like her and want to smack her all at the same time. Sometimes she seemed so much stronger than she was, but then she'd waver and the back and forth made me kind of crazy. She is so open and forgiving, almost to the point of overkill. However, that open and loving nature brings everyone into her fold, making them feel cherished and like family, which is a wonderful thing. So with Evangeline I definitely have a love hate relationship thing going on.
All of Drake’s men are fantastic. They each have such distinct personalities and I love seeing those really shine through behind their manly gruffness. I loved getting more of his men, their interactions with Evangeline and am looking forward to their stories in the series.
I thought the writing was good, very descriptive, a bit slow in places but overall had a good flow and nice progression. It was the overall storyline that sold me and had me lost in their world. There is drama, tension, a lot of passion, and a whole heck of a lot of hotness throughout. Crazy hotness where you're like wow! “Did that just happen?” hot. Great read!
I'm all about Maya Banks' books. I love them. I've read well over a dozen of her books, and they all end up on my awesome list. Until now.
While Mastered, book 1, wasn't the strongest I've read by her, after the killer ending I was dying to pick this one up the second I got my hands on it.
So much of this book felt like a science paper to me. Subject A meets Subject B, they do this. I was missing the passion, the spark, that special something that I look for between characters. I want to know that these two were meant for each other, and that was missing somewhat in Mastered, and even more so in this one.
The book is called Dominated, but I didn't see a whole lot of that going on. Drake isn't a two scoop sundae omg Dominant. Much of the book felt forced or not seamlessly put together. Like here is a scene, then here is another, but the fluidity between them was missing.
Some of the language was a big turn off to this book. This was a prime example of that: "He was going to have to take it slow or risk tearing her, and the last thing he wanted to do was cause her pain. There was pain that was pleasure, and the there was pain." I just looked at it and went why?
I love BDSM books, but women are not objects. In this one, this definitely felt like one of those situation. It was clear in just how he refers to Evangeline 90% of the time. She is not Angel or Evangeline; my angel all the time instead. I'm all for pet names when they work, but even in conversation, he would refer to her in the third person, "My angel would ...."
I am interested to see where the next book goes, solely because it is Silas's story and I love him as a character. All the Enforcer guys are pretty awesome, and I really would love to hear their stories. But as for Evangeline and Drake, their story fell completely flat.
first thing I need to find out .. will there be another book. the answer to that may impact how I feel about this book. I liked this one a heck of a lot more than Mastered, and lets be honest that ending killed us all.
in Dominated, I feel like maybe I had my expectations too high. maybe I needed too much from this book. I liked it, alot. and I liked the storyline and the characters, but I still feel like I have unanswered questions.
okay how do I address this without spoilers. her friends. Maddox had a small talk with Drake about what happened and his suspicions, yet nothing comes of it. we don't have an answer when it came to them. we were left just as unsure as Angel.
I still feel like I don't know what Drake really does. while I love that he's finally making a statement with her. I felt like it was a one time deal. if he wanted to prove her worth to him, I don't feel like he proved much. <-- see maybe I expected too much. maybe I needed too much .
I feel like we're still kind of missing our independent Evangeline who worked so much to care for her parents. I feel like we got snippets of this stronger woman, then she'd be taken away and the weaker woman would emerge again. I needed to see her grow some balls and be a strong woman to stand beside Drake. <-- see maybe I needed too much.
Drake on the other hand. I want to love him, but after his actions in this book... I don't know if I do anymore. Evangeline is quick to always forgive. but I don't know that I can. somethings just I can't move past on, and what happened ... it's right on the line of "can you get past this huge mistake I made".
I loved the changes we saw in Drake though. I love love love seeing more of his men and learning more about them. let's be honest, we all love us some special visitor. and the things Drake does for her parents warms your heart toward him. and of course Mayas delivery was great. some parts were a little redundant, but at least I didn't feel that overwhelming feeling of wanting to skim like I did before. this time I was all in from page one.
BRING IT ON DRAKE. was all.I could.think from the start. and for the most part , over half, he brought it.
Review for Dominated by Maya Banks
Dominated is book two in the Enforcers series by Maya Banks and it is not a stand alone. This is a perfect follow up to the cliff-hanger from Mastered. Filled with sublime characters and a story that will suck you in from page one Dominated has the power to make you soar with happiness and completely wreck you. I expect nothing less from Banks and she always manages to deliver.
I spent a good part of this book wanting to smack Drake — infuriating man! It was so hard to go through the level of hurt he put Evangeline through and really he put himself through the same pain. So frustrating. Drake made so many mistakes and I can honestly say, there were moments while reading that I hoped that Evangeline would just move on from him. He has the power to be toxic to her and that power spilled over more than once.
“Too sweet, too innocent, too compassionate and too loving. I don’t deserve your forgiveness or your love but God help me, I need them. I need you.”
I love Evangeline. I wanted her to get her happily ever after so badly. I can’t even count how many tears I shed along with her throughout this book — several tissues worth for sure. It was impossible not to sympathize for her.
How could she smile when she was bleeding to death from the inside out?
Such a beautiful character who deserved the very best of everything. I love how Drake’s men were loyal to her. They treated her with the upmost respect and supported her even when Drake was being an idiot. Silas and Maddox are two of the very best supporting characters I’ve read, I cannot wait to see them in their own books.
Drake and Evangeline have a turbulent love and they have to fight every step of the way to find their way to a happily ever after. I loved the book, but there are several times when things got repetitive. It was annoying, but didn’t change my enjoyment of the book. Four Stars and Four Wet Panties.
“My beautiful, sweet, innocent angel. Please, baby, please let me take you away from this. Let me explain. I swear to you I won’t hurt you. Never again. Give me a chance to make this right. Give me yourself again. I’ll never hurt such a precious gift again. I swear it on my life.”
Complete & utter BS. The asshole of an "H" disgusts me. The H did grovel at the end but I was over it. His waxing of poetic thoughts about her didn't make sense considering how he treated her. I skimmed at parts because the book was boring
Evangeline ugh such a doormat. Hell the way she just took him back. I wanted to slap her for having no self respect. Other times I felt sorry for her & I wanted her to end up with Maddox.
Lol I forgot to add the h feels uncomfortable saying the word vibrator when she is having a ménage with the H & om.
I got this from the library. I LMAO at the cost.
All I can say is OMG can someone please just slap Evangeline across the head. She just gives women a bad name. This was going to be a DNF but I am a glutton and hope there was some redeeming quality. You know what changing rating to 2 stars. I wish Silas had beaten Drake's ass for the way he treated her on both occasions. Lord and there's one more book to read.
This is part 2 of Drake and Evangeline's story, which started in Mastered. Maybe it was a mistake on my part to read them back-to-back but I ended up skimming about 60% of this book. There was just nothing interesting on display until the very end where the final climax was set up. And I was completely OVER reading about Evangeline's childlike behavior and insistence that she wasn't nearly pretty enough, while Drake and all his men insisted she was the most amazing and desirable woman on earth.
So, yeah. All in all, I didn't really like this 2-book story.
Dominated is the the second book in The Enforcers Trilogy by Maya Banks. Dominated picks up where Mastered left off with Evangeline and Drake's story. Drake isn't the typical hero but I found myself drawn to him anyway despite the lies and mystery surrounding him. This trilogy is fast paced, suspenseful and full of smoking hot romance. I loved the secondary characters in this series and I'm hoping for a spinoff featuring the hot guys surrounding Evangeline and Drake. I can't wait for the conclusion of the trilogy to release in November. I recommend this trilogy for readers looking for a series that has a mix of hot erotic romance and romantic suspense that will keep you flipping the pages.
Este libro me ha parecido, en ocasiones, muchísimo más machista que el anterior. La forma en que tratan a las mujeres, calificándolas todas casi de putas, excepto Evangeline que es pura, inocente, buena... ¿Hace falta generalizar y despreciar así al resto de mujeres de su alrededor? Que quizás están acostumbrados a que las mujeres se les acerquen por el dinero, por la fama o por lo guapos que son, pero ¿por eso es necesario insultarlas y vejarlas de ese modo? La verdad es que me he sentido realmente mal cada vez que leía ese tipo de comentarios a lo largo del libro.
Los que, sin lugar a dudas, han conseguido encantarme, son Maddox y Silas, dos de los hombres de Drake de los que espero que haya alguna pequeña historia, algo más de información porque la verdad es que me tienen muy intrigado. Aunque al igual que todos los hombres de Drake, parecen estar medio enamorados de Evangeline, la tratan con delicadeza, con cura y ella a ellos como parte de su familia a la que ha acogido y ya considera suya. Estos dos, al igual que los demás, demuestran ante Evangeline su lealtad, su confianza en ella, cosa que Drake demuestra en más de una ocasión que a la mínima duda de todas las palabras, de todos los actos y de ella misma. Y es algo que no puedo entender. ¿Cómo Drake que representa que es quien más conoce a Evangeline, puede ser el que más dude de su lealtad?
I was dying to get my hands on this book because of how Mastered ended. I just knew it was going to start off on a high note, but I didn't expect for Drake to completely transform the way he did! They are both heartbroken and trying to slowly get back to where the relationship used to be. Evangeline especially needs to be taken care of after her heart was shattered.
I wanted to hug Evangeline from the very beginning! Her friends were worthless! Even Drake's men were there for her more than her girlfriends. Silas and Maddox were just PERFECT! I loved it whenever they gave Drake crap for not treating Evangeline right and when they told her they would spank her sweet ass. Drake gave me whiplash, I was either swooning at his adoring words or furious with him for one thing or another. Through it all I had hope that it would all work out in the end and was quite content when I finished the epilogue.
Maya Banks has a way of making me swoon, laugh, and have to fan myself all in the same story. She is a master of the risqué! I just wonder who's book will be next, Silas or Maddox, please!
Dominated
The Enforcers, Book #2
By Maya Banks
ISBN# 9780425280669
Author’s Website: http://mayabanks.com/
Brought to you by OBS reviewer Heidi
*Beware of Spoilers*
This book picks up where the previous installment, Mastered, left off. Evangeline has just left Drake after he humiliated her in front of a group of strangers he brought to their home. With the help of her doorman, she was able to find a hotel to work at until she earned enough money to fly home to her parents.
Drake had no choice in what he had done. He didn’t want the Luconis gang to know how much his Angel meant to him as it would make her a target to them. He knows what he has done is unforgivable, but he made his way back home as soon as he could to beg for forgiveness. However she was already gone.
Drake enlists the help of his men to find her. However they were at a loss until Drake’s doorman came forward with her location. Drake goes to her and takes her back home, begging her forgiveness. Which she eventually grants him.
But right when everything seems to be perfect, their trust and relationship will be tested when they least expect it. Will their love be enough to salvage everything they’ve worked towards?
Okay, first of all I absolutely HATED the first book of this series, Mastered. Drake was a total domineering jerk and Evangeline was too much of a pushover to stand up to him. I never could get past their character flaws to actually enjoy the book. So why did I pick up the second installment? Because Mastered had one redeeming quality. That Evangeline finally left Drake at the end. I knew that they would eventually get back together, I had no delusions about that. However, I had hoped that Evangeline would grow a backbone and make it hard for him, to make him really have to work and fight to win her back. So imagine my disappointment when I picked up this book and she took him back in FIVE DAYS!! Five days! That’s it! They both acted like it was an eternity, but no five days … boy he really suffered (note the sarcasm).
The beginning of Dominated was very repetitious, especially while Drake was trying to convince Evangeline to take him back. What I did was unforgivable, but I hope you’ll forgive me even though I don’t deserve it blah blah blah, I’ll never let you leave me again (controlling much?) despite the fact he’d already said if she’d just hear him out she could leave if she wanted and he’d take care of her the rest of her life regardless. Not to mention while he’s doing all this pleading he had thoughts of not being able to wait to get her ‘back under his dominance’. This relationship is still screaming, in the words of Brittney Spears, Toxic! But Evangeline predictably gives in to him, taking him back, and going back to the scene of the crime of that horrible night, Drake’s apartment to live with him once again.
Half the book Drake kept telling her what a horrible person he was and she would defend him and tell him he’s not and that he is in fact a great person, wonderful even (barf city). But I kept finding myself nodding my head and adding in a “Yeah ya think?” or something similar every time Drake talked down about himself and what a horrible person he is.
“I’m not a good man at all. I’m selfish and possessive and I’ll do whatever it takes to keep you happy so that you stay with me. That doesn’t make me good. It makes me a self-serving bastard.”
On that, Drake Donovan, you and I are in perfect agreement!
And what’s up with when she asked what he does and he told her to let it go instead of giving her any kind of real answer. And, worse she does. You deserve getting caught up in legal trouble with him when you allow that to happen.
I do, however, like Drake’s men. It’s a shame they’re caught up in such a crappy series because I would like to get to know them better, maybe even see some romances of their own. But at least, it seems, they know how to treat a woman.
“I need help,” she said breathlessly. “Can you zip me up?”
“This has got to qualify me for sainthood,” Silas muttered. “A man can only take so much, for fuck’s sake.”
And of course, Drake, being the douche-knobber he is, eventually messes up … again. Evangeline does grow a little backbone then. FINALLY. But don’t worry it turns to mush by the end of the book as she goes back to her pathetic self by the final pages of the book.
“He gave her an impatient look that suggested he didn’t buy her dimwitted act. Only it wasn’t an act!”
*Shakes my head* This is the kind of crap throughout this whole book. Wimpy lead female admitting she’s an idiot. What more can I really say?
This book was slightly better than the last one, but really it doesn’t take much. It was still a major disappointment. I really think that Banks does an injustice to herself with this series. I’ve seen much better writing out of her than this sad excuse of storytelling. I think this series shows how little she knows about the lifestyle, not that I know from personal experience mind you. However I have read other books of the genre. Books where the female is strong, but is willing to submit to her man to give him pleasure and take pleasure as well. I feel the characters just show what people stereotypically think of the lifestyle instead of the reality…. A very hard dominate male, and a wimpy pushover sub that will do anything he wants. I sadly do not think I can continue with this series. It’s just too painful to read. However, the next book is about Silas so perhaps I can give it one more try … we’ll see.
Well sadly this book was just meh for me. After the cliffy from the first book, Mastered, I couldn't wait to read this one and although it started with promise, it quickly fell apart for me. The hero, Drake, is supposed to be a force of nature and a possible mob boss but dominate he is not. He's an abused little boy walking around in a man suit who has trust issues and Evangeline comes off as a weepy woman with self esteem issues. The basic underlying theme is more Wendy and the Lost Boys. All of guys turn into little boys around Evangeline as long as she cooks and creates a family atmosphere but if anyone steps on her self esteem she breaks and the men all go ape. Even though I didn't connect with the hero or heroine much, I did love the Lost Boys or Drake's men and can't wait for their stories.
This book is a follow up on the first book in this series.
You could read it as a stand alone, but when you dot hat you miss out some details.
Drake knows he has been so damn stupid, he needs to find her and bring her back in his life.
She forgives him and their relationship is building stronger and stronger. That part is a fun read, with lots of caring, loving and spicy hot moments.
But thanks to his past he can't believe for the full 100% she loves him like she does. So when trouble is on his doorstep, he doesn't believe in her and thinks she has spoken about him to the police. He kicks her out, breaking her when he does that.
Soon he finds out the truth, but now she is wounded so much, she doesn't forgive him straight away.
Will she ever forgive him? And will his brothers forgive him for hurting her?
For that you have to read the book, you won't regret it.
I had issues with this book. After apologizing to Evangeline and making up to her for his actions in the last book he turned around and did the same thing. This betrayal was so much worse because of how Evangeline tried to explain, she begged Drake to believe her, even went so far as to get down on her knees, yet Drake pushed her away. I was glad that Drake's men stood behind Evangeline and let her know. Better was how each of them ripped Drake a new one over his treatment of Evangeline.
As this is a book you know there was going to be a HEA, but I don't think Drake deserved it and Evangeline deserved someone who would believe her no matter what.
Eh. I'm usually a fan of Maya Banks books, but this one was a little too hokey for me.
Just when it seems there can be a happy ever after, there's even more angst as Drake believes Evangeline has betrayed him yet again.
At this point, all his promises of trust and faith in her goes poof. I totally expected her to dig out for good.... and he would deserve that loss!
Not sure I understood the title as in the end the one who was supposed to be the strong one was actually weak while the innocent proved to rue the day.
It’s been a long few months since Book 1 in The Enforcer series (Mastered) came out and left me wanting to scream in frustration at the cliffhanger ending. When we last left Drake and Evangeline, they were in splitsville after Drake’s heinous behavior caused a rift that seemed insurmountable and Evangeline ran out into the night with no where to go and nothing to her name.
Drake, inconsolable, makes it his mission to scour the city with the help of his men to find Evangeline and bring her back home where she belongs, with him. Of course, they find her in the most pitiful, pathetic situation and it takes very little urging by Drake to convince her of his lies to keep her safe. He vows to never treat her like that again and as the reader you know that shit is going to happen again, because duh, this is only a 1/4 (if that) way through the book.
The entire book is basically Evangeline trying to break down Drake’s walls by trying to be perfect. By being everything he desires her to be. For a while it works. But the one thing Evangeline isn’t able to get from him is his trust. When that trust is tested, he bails, once again throwing Evangeline to the wayside. His men try their best to convince him he is wrong and will regret his actions, but he’s drunk on lies and scared of his own feelings, so he lashes out, terribly.
Part of me wanted to really dislike Evangeline and her sweet, trusting nature. I wanted to roll my eyes every single time she started crying…which was a lot. A LOT. She cried all the damn time. Yet, I found myself liking her and the way she effortlessly wrapped every single hard-edged man on Drake’s team around her little finger. They loved her and protected her much more than Drake did many times. She may have been naive but she held all the power when it came to Drake and to his men. Even when she’s all “I’m trash, I’m worthless, Drake deserves more…” and I wanted to kick her ass myself, I STILL liked her because every woman has had self deprecating thoughts, maybe not as often (like every single page) but still, they have.
Being a Maya Banks book, the sex was extremely well wrote, hot as hell and definitely on the mark. She’s inventive to a fault and I’ve come to think of her as the Jackie Chan of sex scenes. You know, because Jackie Chan uses anything in his immediate vicinity to kick someones ass, Maya Banks uses everything in her arsenal of hottness to write her sex scenes. They are never disappointing, and since her heroes are always alpha to a fault, the sex is always just a bit more…heightened. More tense, and definitely more arousing.
I am eagerly awaiting book three, Kept, with Silas, Drake’s right hand man, as the main character. Silas and Maddox become very important to Evangeline with their unwavering loyalty to her and it’s only right that they both get their own happily ever afters too. Are these books deep and dark? No, not really. Are they fun as hell to read? Yep, 100% sure are. And honestly, I can’t ask for more than that at the moment.
I give Dominated by Maya Banks 4 stars!
book review
The second book in The Enforcers Series is a hi-octane, suspenseful, steamy, and heartwarming story with more twists and turns that will keep you guessing what will happen to Evangeline and Drake.
***FIRST TWO BOOK SERIES REVIEW WITH NO SPOILERS***
Tumultuous. Gripping. Steamy. Maya Banks doesn’t hold back the sexiness or the drama in her ENFORCERS Series.
In the first two books of The Enforcers Series, we meet Evangeline and Drake. They are an unlikely couple that when together, there is nothing wrong with the world. However, when they have to live their lives and move forward with their relationship, this is when things get sticky. Their story is filled with a roller coaster ride of feelings and interactions that will make the reader go through just as many emotions as the characters.
I will be honest with you all, the first book left me in a place that I was not happy. I wanted more from the author and I felt that Evangeline and Drake deserved a better ending. However, in the second book, all was forgiven. I truly believe that both MASTERED and DOMINATED should be read back to back. I think that the reader will love the story more and really get get to understand all the players involved.
What makes these books so captivating is that there is so much going on. Not only do we have the love story of Evangeline and Drake, but we are also dealing with Drake’s business dealing and the lifestyle that he leads. On top of that, the reader has to wrap their head around how Evangeline is going to fit into this world. Having all of these elements allows the reader to never be bored. The characters and situations in these books propel the story forward in a way that makes these books worth reading.
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention how wonderfully Maya Banks develops a romantic suspense novel. She knows how to keep us on the edge of our seats while still maintaining the tender and sexy moments that we all love.
Quite frankly after reading these two books, I am going to need a moment. However, I will be ready for when KEPT hits the shelves this November. I love me my Silas!
Finally! Mastered left me hanging in the worst way and I’ve been dying, DYING to get ahold of Dominated. This book is every bit as intense as the first book, but Maya does a nice job of changing the dynamic so it doesn’t seem like a long, drawn out continuation of Mastered. Writing a review for this book without spoilers is going to be tough!
Maya is very talented at creating well-developed characters, however, I did have a little irritation with Evangeline near the end. But, I won’t spoil it, just to say I feel like she lost a bit of her backbone and it made the situation a tad less believable. Beyond that, I love the range of characters in this book. Drake’s men, his “brothers” are ingrained in the story, they are comedic relief, with their sibling rivalry type banter, and the way they all adore Evangeline. Giving the reader a glance beneath their shells in this book was very smart because now, I’d like to read the stories of all the rest!
There are ups and downs all over the place in this story, it’s a rollercoaster of emotion, steamy sex, and action movie moments. I was pretty well glued to the pages by the end. Drake pissed me off in the worst way from time to time, but I had some understanding of the whys to his actions. Not that it excused him, but it kept me from hating him.
Evangeline has been a softer character throughout, except when fighting for those she loves. It balances well with her submission to Drake, and I don’t think Drake could believably have fallen for a different type of woman. Being honest and utterly guileless is the only way he could trust, because he could see all of her. Though, this wasn’t always enough.
It’s a lot of twists and turns and yummy love, a great conclusion to the duet of Drake and Evangeline’s story.
**Warning** there is a manage scene and it’s a little overly drawn out, in my opinion. I’m not a fan of reading scenes with multiple partners in my romance novels, but I loved the story so, I skimmed over it. I’d recommend you do the same because their story is worth it.
