Rodney and Splodge go to Topaz Town

Rate this book
Rodney is a scruffy little Westie dog who lives with his owner, Florence. One cosy evening watching television together, Rodney finds out that Florence has always wanted a diamond ring.

That same night, he meets Splodge the magical gnome in his own back garden. Rodney discovers that there is a magic portal inside of his favourite bush, which leads to an enchanting world called The Magical Realm. Splodge can’t magic up gemstones, but he knows of a tournament in Topaz Town where the prize is a huge diamond!

Topaz Town is not as Rodney had expected, with the citizens living in poverty under the reign of their cruel leader, King Marquise. The two friends embark on an adventure to win the diamond prize. But winning a tournament is difficult with fierce opposition from the evil witch, Hexyl, and the king’s selfish attitude.

Can Rodney and Splodge win the elusive diamond and free the citizens of Topaz Town from a life of misery?

Sometimes all it takes to save the day is two good friends, a bit of magic, and the best intentions.

A lovely story that any child or adult would enjoy. I read this to my grandchildren who loved it. We thoroughly enjoyed Rodney and Splodge's adventure. A very well written and action packed fantasy. Looking forward to their next adventures. Hope to read more from this author.

I received a free kindle copy of Rodney & Splodge go to Topaz Town (Rodney's Adventures Book One) by Natalie Rix writing as Madeline Pope, published by Monnath Books from an Amazon promotion in exchange for a fair review.

It is written for ages seven to twelve with grade levels three to six. I gave it four stars.

Rodney is Florence's dog. He has a nightly routine but this particular night he was impatient to go outside. "Rodney had already forced his head through the gap before it was fully open.

'You are an eager dog!' she laughed. His excitable nature at the smallest of things always amused her." That night he met Splodge, the magical gnome who gave Rodney the ability to speak.

Rodney wants to get a diamond ring for Florence. They leave on an adventure to Topaz Town.

They travel together to the Magical Realm. He hadn't felt like he was flying but could tell by the dizzying height. He saw brilliant colors with the sun shining through the clouds. When they landed, Rodney bumped down into the flower fountains. The flowers would burst through the ground around their feet.

They had many wonderful adventures in Topaz town & after the tournament it was time to return home. His ability to speak was removed & he couldn't tell Florence how much he adored her. I think she knew anyway.

It's hard not to fall in love with Rodney (a Westie) and Splodge (a garden gnome) as they go on their adventure to Topaz Town.

This is a book I thoroughly enjoyed reading to my daughter and I became as much involved in the story as she was from the very start.

Madeline has drawn influence from some classic fairy tales and children's stories and mixed them together to create her very own, unique, magical world which was a joy to share with a very imaginative 7 year old.
