Senseisha is a collection of truly intimate, non-fiction stories written by Caribbean women. From a girl’s first period to the elation of a first orgasm, Senseisha takes us on a journey of love, lust, pain and pleasure, and the ongoing internal conflict between love for God, and love for sex. Here are the lives of every day Caribbean women, including a young woman who finally finds the confidence to express her love for women to her mother, a married woman whose delightful dessert helps to sweeten up her marriage, and a woman who finds herself caught up in an abusive ménage a trois. Experience intimacy only shared between close friends, where female writers aren’t afraid to describe who they are and how they feel. These memoirs will make you giggle, laugh, cry, curse, coo and yes, climax!
This books tackles the complexity of sexuality for people of Caribbean origin, by presenting the very human experiences of the Caribbean's daughters and mothers.
I have been reading this book for weeks... Way too long but it has been a struggle. The inside of the book hardly captivates my interest like the back cover.
Like all anthologies, you have to be prepared for the changing language and writing style with the start of every new story. Like most anthologies, this book finds itself mixed between poor plots and good stories. I am not in the mood to review each story individually and I wouldn't recommend any one story to you. If you picked up the book, read all of the stories. Some I can relate to, some are unbelievable, some are anti-climatic and some really don't tell any story. For that reason I rated it a 2- barely just ok thankfully due to a few really good stories.
