I have read a lot of these kind of books but I particularly liked this one. The sections were well organised. It was sensible without being condescending. It had case studies and personal anecdotes but not too many, and also, maybe the main thing - the exercises were interesting, useful and not too cringy. This is a book I feel you could go to again and again at times when you need self-coaching. Well worth a read. Thanks to NetGalley and DK for the ARC.

Hannah Miller starts by suggesting that we need purpose in order to feel content and happy. The title refers to find a way to reflect to make our lives purposeful.
The 8 steps start with you identifying your strengths. We are often told to work on weaknesses but instead her idea is that using them will give you more satisfaction and no-one is good at everything. Then you look at your life so far to reflect on how events gave shaped you so far.
Each chapter has information and theory followedby a case study and activities to journal. It is a good mixture of theory told in a easy to understand way without being too wishy washy. As I am just starting retirement, I found it a helpful way of organising thoughts of my next stage but all ages would find it useful if feeling a lack of purpise. As I read the ARC from Netgalley, I went and bought my own copy to refer to.

I really enjoyed The Purpose Pursuit by Hannah Miller. I listened to the audiobook and found it genuinely comforting and motivating, it felt more like a thoughtful conversation than a lesson. The message around purpose feels realistic and relatable, especially if you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure of what’s next.

What stood out most is how grounded the book is. It doesn’t push big promises or quick fixes, but instead encourages reflection, patience, and self trust. I finished it feeling calmer, encouraged, and more confident that purpose can unfold naturally over time.

I’d definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for inspiration without pressure.

The Purpose Pursuit is one of those rare nonfiction books that feels both deeply practical and quietly profound. Hannah Miller writes with a clarity and warmth that makes the often‑intimidating idea of “finding your purpose” feel accessible, grounded, and genuinely achievable. Rather than offering lofty promises or quick fixes, she invites readers into a steady, compassionate journey of reflection and realignment.

The structure of the book is a real strength. The opening assessment tool immediately helps you understand where you are and what you value, and from there the eight‑step roadmap unfolds with a sense of calm direction. Each chapter blends research, case studies, and reflective prompts in a way that feels supportive rather than overwhelming. It’s the kind of guidance that meets you where you are—whether you’re feeling stuck, off‑track, or simply ready for a new chapter.

What stands out most is Miller’s tone. She writes like someone who genuinely wants you to succeed, offering encouragement without sugarcoating the work involved. The stories she shares are relatable and human, reminding you that purpose isn’t a grand, distant ideal but something shaped through small, intentional choices. The book gently challenges you to imagine more for yourself while giving you the tools to make those changes feel possible.

By the end, The Purpose Pursuit feels less like a self‑help manual and more like a companion—steady, insightful, and quietly motivating. It’s a wonderful reset for anyone craving clarity, confidence, or a renewed sense of direction in their work or life.

My thanks to Hannah Miller, the publisher and netgalley for the ARC

Not the kind of book that I would usually pick up but definitely one I'll revisit.

My interest in this was piqued after a tumultuous time. Towards the end of last year I suddenly found myself out of work - sure I didn't like the job and had been intending to leave anyway, so it was surprising how much the company's decision shook me. So with that experience now in my past, I thought I'd see if this book would have been useful in that time of transition, or indeed if it could be now.

The answer is a strong yes, and I actually think this is a good self development tool for anyone at any stage of life. The chapters are well structured and combine client notes with the author's personal stories, anecdotes with well researched facts. As with most books of this type this isn't an 'answers served to you' situation - you'll get the most out of this if you commit fully. Do the journaling and reflective exercises the way they're supposed to be done and there will be some valuable insights to gain.

Definitely one I'll come back to down the line and I think could be a helpful catalyst for anyone looking to make their life more fulfilling.

As a trained coach and counsellor, I've read many self-help books so I was expecting this to be similar to what I'd read before. I was mistaken.

Although focused on areas that would be familiar to many - strengths, purpose, values - this gentle paced book gave me a real opportunity to reflect on what I'm good at, what's important to me, and how I can start living more congruently with my values. I particularly liked the fact that it focused on strengths, values and preferences linked to those, rather than overly dwelling on our own negative traits - or as a coaching friend says - under-utilised strengths! There were lots of practical and fun exercises to develop more self-awareness and nicely laid out chapters.

I found myself taking lots of notes, and then came away from it wanting to buy my own copy and set aside more time for the exercises than I had when reading the ARC. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking to invest time in their personal growth, and work out what's possible and what's next.

Thanks to Hannah Miller, DK and NetGalley for this ARC in return for an honest review.

I received this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I found this to be a helpful and practical read particularly as I’m going through a stage in my life where I’m struggling most notably career wise with my sense of purpose and have been doing a lot of work on my values and my identity

I enjoy these types of books and especially where you find positive and therapeutic actions, as well as case studies, for many scenarios we’ll likely face in our lives and how we can approach them for a better outcome. I appreciated the prompts & tips provided as well as the guidance and it made me reflect a lot.

I also felt too that I would likely benefit from the physical copy when it’s released, as reading the Kindle version meant I couldn’t highlight pages and make notes.

Absolutely loved this book. Normally I’m someone who goes through books relatively quickly, absorbing information and ignoring any activities within them. However, this time I got out my journal and slowly worked my way through the book, making the most of what was within. And I’d highly recommend you do the same!

It’s full of brilliant wisdom, engaging and reflective activities, and ultimately it gets you to deeply reflect on who you are, what matters to you and if your life is aligned with this things. The result is you work out where you are in your personal pursuit of purpose, and are encouraged and equipped to make and changes that might be needed.

It’s a book I’d recommend anyone to read.
