It's listed on her bibliography here: http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/ea.cgi?C...

It's set in the '30s and follows a guy named Lee Grey, but that's all I know about it. (I think he might be a mob cleaner, though, like Leo, but that is purely secondhand speculation. I haven't read it yet.)(less)

It was a mixed bag. It had a lot of good urban fantasy elements on their own, and I still like Ava, but it got too convoluted, there were too many of them and it got too jumbled up. There wasn't enough focus on what I thought was the primary arc of the series, Leo and the reapers, and too much on what felt like extraneous elements. The author was probably doing the thing where Leo is the long arc of the series and she was creating a crisis that Ava had to deal with just for this book, but it was ...more

Dark, gritty, and original, GRIM TIDINGS is a strong follow-up to Kittredge's BLACK DOG. With less of the elements that I don't like and more suspense and drama, GRIM TIDINGS is an excellent second book in the Hellhound Chronicles.

A lot happens in GRIM TIDINGS. Between flashbacks to World War II and the Midwest in the late 1940s, we get a pretty significant chunk of Ava's history, and as a result, we find out what is driving her actions for the majori

I'm not feeling this. I thought the first book was pretty good but I'm failing to get into this sequel. It's just too gritty without enough romantic bits.

Before I get started I just want to let you know that this is the second book in the series so there may be some spoilers if you haven’t read the first book.

I haven’t read the first book, so it was a bit confusing in the beginning. As I got further into the book the author filled me in on past events. She did it without slowing down the story and I was soon swept into the book.

You’ll be taken back and forth from Ava’s past to current time as she battles The Walking Man once again. She thought sh

If Ava thought killing her reaper and thus winning her freedom would make her life easier, she was dead wrong. Being a hellhound isn’t an easy life, especially when a murderous presence from the past comes back to haunt you, bringing zombies with him. Ava once again finds herself in the thick of thing with little hope of survival, but, she’s tougher than she thinks and not entirely alone.

*My Thoughts*

Grim Tidings is the second installment in author Caitlin Kittredge's Hellhound Chronicles. Picking up where Black Dog left off, Ava has an interesting journey ahead of her. She has survived her former master Gary who she agreed to work with after dying in 1919. Her boyfriend Leo has become the new Grim Reaper, but they have no idea how they will be received once the arrive in Minneapolis where the reapers main office is, and Ava has

Overall, I thought this was a great story. I have not read the first installment but I am interested. I enjoyed the story involving reapers and hellhounds and even biblical characters. I was not impressed with the writing. I don't know if I should be upset with the writer or the editor. Perhaps even the publisher. Mechanically speaking, the writing is not that great. The story is great but the writing is not. This is why I gave it 3 stars. It is worth reading and I am interested in the first boo ...more

Man, this book was all over the place. Jumping into the past, adding characters in every chapter, bouncing from one storyline to the next. I honestly couldn't keep track, and I wasn't invested in anyone enough to really care anyway. Not to mention that no one could possibly get beat up and abused as much as Ava and just keep on ticking. Also, I love action as much as the next guy, but shit, take a breather once in a while. This was not good.

It was an entertaining book, will definitely look for the next in the series, but there are definitely some characterization, plotting, and stylistic choices which I think could have been made differently.

When I was assigned Black Dog to review last year, the first book in Caitlin Kittredge's Hellhound Chronicles, I was excited. I'm always looking for a new urban fantasy series to enjoy and was intrigued by the premise. And while I wasn't completely disappointed with it, I was far from completely satisfied. Fortunately that ambivalence doesn't apply to the second book in the series, Grim Tidings. It is a thoroughly satisfying and enjoyable book, and lends hope that this could be a well done and l ...more

At the end of Black Dog, the first book in the series, hellhound Ava found out why she was always a little different from the other hounds. She was meant to be the Grim Reaper’s personal hound. But there hadn’t been a Grim Reaper for centuries and the rest of the reapers were running amok without a true leader. Then Ava’s maybe-boyfriend Leo became the Grim Reaper. Now the two are on their way to reaper headquarters in Minnesota to “take over the company.” The reapers who are currently in charge ...more

Picking up right where Black Dog left off we're with Ava and Leo as they're driving to their next destination, only for them to be thrown off the road by something bigger and badder than they excepted. With needing to prove that Leo is now the Grim Reaper, and wanting to get rid of The Walking Man, Ava must figure out how to embrace the hellhound she is and find a way to kick some butt.

Kittredge is seriously a mastermind. I am so in love with this world that she has created. One that is based ou

Grim Tidings was absolutely, by far, my favorite book of 2016! It grabbed my shirt and took me for one Hell of a ride!

Even though I haven't read the first book in the Hellhound Chronicles, I was able to easily follow the entire storyline with ease. The author was able to mix in just enough back story that I didn't feel lost, but she never created a narrative that rambled on for days. It was a fantastic transition from chapt

Grim Tidings by Caitlin Kittredge

Ava, a lost soul, is a hellhound. In Black Dog, Ava is subjected to a cruel reaper of souls named Gary. She meets Leo and her life changes. In this book, as an unfettered Hellhound, she and Leo become witting and unwitting accomplices of an Angel of the employed rather than fallen persuasion. They are tasked to stop the Walking Man, a wild card in the pantheon of mystical beings in this series.

I may have mentioned, Ava is a contradiction, she is a merciless kill

Ava, a Hellhound is assistant to Leo, THE Grim Reaper. However headquarters in Minneapolis doesn't believe he is the real deal so they kidnap him and try to torture him. that doesn't work well because Ava has an angel in her pocket (figuratively) andhe helps her get away but only because he needs her for a different mission - to capture or kill The Walking Man, who is working towards speeding the arrival of the end of the world. I loved the characters, especially Ava's relationship with Leo. Lea ...more

Ava is a hellhound and both assistant and girlfriend to the newest Grim Reaper. After years of servitude to the previous Reaper, Ava is exploring her freedom with the newest guy (and exploring his body, as well). But not everyone is happy with the newest Reaper on the block and the war between the angels and Fallen is heating up. This story picks up right after the first and does little to recap the prior events (I'm actually fine with this -- sometimes there's too much recapping) but it works b ...more

This series is intended to be read in sequence, so this review may contain some spoilers of the first book, Black Dog.

Grim Tidings is the second book in Caitlin Kittredge’s HELLHOUND CHRONICLES. Ava, the human hellhound and her lover, the necromancer Leo, can barely catch their breath before they are hurled into a new set of adventures.

Leo is now, officially, the Grim Reaper, but to fully assume his title he needs the Reaper’s Scythe. He and Ava assume it’s in Reaper Headquarters in Minneapolis,

Ava is a Hellhound and her mission is to keep Leo, the grim reaper, alive until he finds his scythe. I really like this series and book 2 is just as good as the first (Black Dog). This is a great paranormal with some of the unusual characters of Angels, The Fallen, Demons, monsters etc. There's no thinking that this series could possibly be true. Caitlin Kittredge has several series but Hellhound Chronicles is the only one I've read. I think I'll be looking for the others.

The Hellhound Chronicles get wilder, if that's possible, facing fallen angels, zombies, elemental beings, and oh yeah, the apocalypse. There's a lot going on in this novel, but Kittridge keeps the pace moving and the revelations coming, which made it a fast read. This is a great series for those who like their urban fantasy gritty and dark.

I am enjoying these books. This one is a little confusing since there is a ton going on, along with some flashbacks. Demons, angels, bad guys and grim reapers, along with hellhounds, of course, oh yea, and Zompires!. This is dark urban fantasy.

Caitlin started writing novels at age 13. Her first was a Star Wars tie-in. Fortunately, she branched out from there and after a few years trying to be a screenwriter, a comic book writer and the author of copious amounts of fanfiction, she tried to write a novel again. Her epic dark fantasy (thankfully) never saw the light of day but while she was struggling with elves and sorcerers she got the i ...more
