Taja Walker is ambitious and is starting to make a name for herself in the social media marketing world. She is stopping at nothing to reach her career goals. She ends up having an unforgettable night with the confident Weston Jones. Taja’s expectation is to enjoy her night and never cross paths again with Weston.
A week later, Taja is hired as the social media manager of TRU Makeup, where Weston Jones is the no-nonsense having CFO. While having to deal with the man that ignited something in her, she is stuck in a relationship with a man with no ambition. This causes her to be stuck between a rock and a hard place between her loyalty and frustrations.
Weston is dealing with the weight of being the CFO and his family. He only feels that people see him as a bank, causing him to ruin and burn bridges with those around him. When tragedy strikes, he is comforted by Taja’s different outlook on life. With each other’s support, the two find that there is something deeply rooted between them. However, when mixing self-discovery and ambition, is love a possible outcome?
This was a quick decent-ish read that surprisingly had some emotional aspects. The FMC was a reminder that we all play the fool for a man at some point. She had a bummy bf that it took her way too long to get rid of. Also, the MMC was very rude, arrogant, and just otherwise had a large chip on his shoulder for no reason. He deserved to get beat up by every other character in this book but they all let him off easily “oh that’s just how he is🙄”. I know you can only put so much in a novella/short story, but I wish that we had the chance to see their relationship actually play out without his family drama stuff. Because by the end of the book I don’t know how or when they had time to fall in love.
This story felt rushed and overloaded. Taja started off likable but quickly gave "dummy," especially with her situationship with Jay a freeloading hater living on her couch, using her car, and dragging her for having dreams? Be serious.
The MMC was worse cheap, selfish, and obsessed with people wanting his money. On top of that, he was out here sexually harassing Taja at work after a one-night stand she clearly wanted to move past. Unprofessional ANDD disrespectful.
The Weston/mom subplot was underdeveloped, and he came off immature and rude. I felt nothing for him, and honestly, Rae should’ve popped off at least once. Taja’s background was barely touched, and neither character felt fully fleshed out.
The author tried to do too much in too little time, and it left me not knowing or liking anyone. Like we had a time jump when Weston needed to spend some years in therapy cus whew 🫠🫠
Following a night of passion, Weston and Taja never thought their paths would cross again. However, they end up working at the same company. Their back and forth at work was an enjoyable part of the book to me. Weston was trying to give Taja a hard time, but she stood toe to toe with him and didn't back down. Taja did get on my nerves with the situation with Jay. I was not surprised at all by his behavior. I was looking sideways at Weston too because of his treatment of his mother and sister. I felt for him when he had to find out the hard way that his money didn't matter to them nor would it bring him true happiness. I admired how Taja stuck by Weston in his time of need even when his anger got the best of him. I was glad that Taja showed Weston what true love is, and he was got to experience something that he never had for himself. This was a very emotional book that brought out tears, laughter, and anger while I was reading it. Great job Bree!!
It was a quick read for me and I really did enjoy it. I should say if cheating, death of a loved one and grief are sensitive topics please don’t read. While it’s not hard for me it could be for you. I personally enjoyed the way Bree wrote about it.
Taja and her best friend life change with one night of networking is done right. This leads to a job of their dreams and the best one night stand she ever has. Weston was drawn to her the second he laid eyes on her and did things with her that made him feel! They find themselves working together and despite how hard he tries he can’t help, but want her more. Both have to go through some things that brings them together and it is where their differences makes them stronger and meant for each other. Weston mean butt got on my nerves, but just like Taja I couldn’t stay mad long lol! Add to your TBR,but don’t wait too long like I did.
What a beautifully written love story Taja and Weston were truly a match made. Unfortunately it take people to lose someone to understand that life is really too short but I'm glad that Weston had his sister to show him and to let him know that his mother never stopped loving him. Grief is tricky and it is a feeling that never goes away it's an emotional rollercoaster and it's to be expected. I love the ending and I hope to see more of Taja and Weston.
This was a pretty good novella but I wish we would have gotten to see more of Taja and Weston together without all the push and pull of them being at odds or him being angry. Weston was work in progress and needed to work on his emotional intelligence but I think with Taja by his side, he won’t have a choice in the matter. 3.5/5 stars.
This was a great read. I would hope any woman in a relationship trying to help a man who is going no where will read this and open their eyes. I would hope that anyone who is holding a grudge against someone close would read this and forgive.
This book had many nuggets and it was not to long with unnecessary information but just enough to keep me very interested.
I think this book really gave the feeling of being guilty after losing a parent and you having to found forgiveness within yourself while experiencing love and passion
I don’t like that she only left because she caught him cheating and basically had Weston in the waiting room. She should’ve been left before that because Jay didn’t respect her. After realizing the story line i lowkey lost interest. Im over reading plots like this
Taja meeting Weston, knew he was stubborn and arrogant but a special person. Weston was a man who stood on business, and he was currently standing on it. He's didn’t want anyone else because he knew no one else could fill her shoes.
This was a very good read. It was kind of straight to the point. I’m mad that his mom had to die but was happy for them at the end! I’m glad Jay finally got put out
That was a good and different read. Opposites do attract. Taja and Weston were from two walks of life. One out going and one straight mean. Y’all see how this one night stand turns out!
