Dear Ms. Steel,
I have been a faithful reader of yours ever since I picked up "The Promise" over 30 years ago. I enjoyed your books for many years but then something happened. You started to churn books out using the same formula over and over. The phrases in your books were overused and you had started to say the same thing over and over just in case we forgot what you had written a few sentences previously. I kept with you thinking that you surely had another Promise or Palomino in you. I am s

*I gave this audiobook a C for the content and B+ for the narration at AudioGals*

It’s been a long time since I have read a Danielle Steel novel, and given that I love romantic suspense, the minute I saw the blurb for Undercover, I knew I couldn’t pass it up. However, to my great surprise, this title really boasted neither significant amounts of romance nor suspense. Instead it really read more like general fiction, focusing more on the character’s individual backgrounds and the evolution of thei

Danielle Steele is back again, and all though her last two books miserably failed me , I am glad that this one landed in my hands and to say she is back and I mean really back!

The read tells of Marshall, he's an ex- undercover agent ( can you taste the danger yet?) he has just survived the toughest battle of his career and settles into the temporary job of secret services, guarding non other than the President. But then a routine day at the office goes wrong and he is severely injured, he flees

I had to read this for my internship. It is so badly written I can't even create proper sentences.

A very enjoyable book! I haven't read anything by this author in quite awhile. She does tell a good story.

I did like the book. Good plot line and interesting story overall. I love Marshall and Ariana's relationship. But I feel that Steel was a bit repetitive. And constantly reminding us about the past. The back stories took around 200 pages! But aside from that I did enjoy the book. I really liked Mac's humour and Marshall's teasing nature. If you like a psychological thriller romance then I recommend that you read this book. However personally I felt it was very unfulfilling. The romance between th ...more

I'm sorry, but this book might be the worst book I've ever read. I have to stop. The poor writing and repeated phrases, the wasted chapters of nothing that have added to the story. This could be an example for a professor in a creative writing class what not to do. I won't give a rating as I didn't finish the book, but it was just that bad.

However, my opinion may not match yours. So if you love this author or if you want to give it a try, you should.

First Danielle Steel I've finished in some time. It was interesting, different and with well thought plots. 8 of 10 stars

I really enjoyed the story and the characters, but.....

Starting sentences with 'And', many many times, was breaking my concentration! It was driving me nuts! It also felt like certain scenes, feelings, POV and actions were being repeated, over and over again. It got to the point where I was saying to myself "I heard you the first time Ms. Steel", let's move on to what happens next. The ending was just too quick. No time to really invest in the romance between the main characters. Absolutely no a

Having a "good" plot, won't save you from mediocrity of the literary kind that I found within the pages of 'Undercover'. I will address the issues below- but I will start by saying that the plot was well thought out. Interesting. It moved along at a good pace, never spending too long on one subject. Unfortunately, plot alone does not make a good book. It is simply the foundation.

1) Adverb overuse- and I must stress "overuse". Some authors do it and it works in their favour, but in Undercover, i

I've read every Danielle Steel book. Although sometimes I feel she's my dirty little pleasure, I look forward to them all, and she never disappoints. Is she a great writer, probably not. She repeats single thought so often that I want to scream and her story structure never varies but I look forward to curling up with her books and living her stories.

I enjoyed Undercover . . . and like always was sorry to see it end so quickly.

Undercover by Danielle Steel is not her typical romance story. There are the romance sections, interesting characters and an intriguing plot that intertwines well with the main characters. This book would be a great summer beach or travel read because it kept me engaged.

This is my first book by this author. And my first impression is - not good.

It felt like a story you fell your friend or not even that, an acquaintance where you narrate a long period of time with basic information and names and things that happened but NO depth whatsoever. Facts and stats kind of info. I can't put it i romance genre because is not it nor I can say that is psychological novel. It is something in between. Got me feeling nothing. Even though it has some interesting issues and sub

The story was good; it was interesting. It was not well written at all. If this was an author's first book, I would totally understand. But this is written by Danielle Steel! She's way more talented than this. The story was told, not shown. There were lots of repetition. The characters were likable, but you never really "felt" anything for them. Lots of unnecessary stuff throughout the book. Some of the dialogue was totally unlike real conversations. There were many events in the book that would ...more

One of the fundamental rules in storytelling is show, don’t tell. This book does the exact opposite.
The style alone made this book pretty damn near impossible to finish. Big, emotional moments are narrated with a disappointing lack of passion and flair, and everything else happens on fast-forward. A discussion between the main character and the owner of a dog he wants to adopt is fleshed out in great detail, yet a host of moments that are far more important to the plot are simply mentioned in pa

Honestly, I was a little disappointed here. I was expecting a great thriller and romance all in one – a romantic thriller, if you will. And I didn't really... get that. Everything happened very, very fast and a lot of development was glossed over – the entire plot only took up maybe 20-40 pages at most. There wasn't a lot of suspense and I found myself disappointed that much of it took place off-page. The romance suffered from that as well, there was a lot of development cut out, that I would ha ...more

This was certainly not my favorite of Danielle's books. Her constant repetition of facts and ideas was back in full force. She seemed to have curbed that in her last couple of books, so I had hoped that it was over.

Undercover is somewhat of an action story set within a love story, and it just doesn't really work well. The dealings of the DEA, CIA, and Secret Service aren't really her genre, and although there was violence, somehow she made it seem pretty tame in general. My advice to Danielle wo

I used to read all of Danielle Steel's books about 20 years ago, but I have not picked up one since. The description of this one intrigued me though, so I thought I would give her another go. This book was so frustrating to read. The actual story didn't kick in until 60% into the book (I know it was 60% because my ereader told me so). Everything that came before this was backstory on both characters which was then repeated in the last 40% as they encountered each other. There was the potential f ...more

Not one of Danielle Steel's best

The book started out great but soon lost my interest. It
was repetitive and I didn't like the flow of the book. However it is
still a Danielle Steel book and worth reading.

Too predictable and the end wrapped things up in fast forward. Not her best work.

Enjoy this book.

This was one of the best by Steele that I’ve read in years. This actually had a great mystery and story that was just not all about love. Most Steele books are just about love and never real mystery. This book was very different. Very much about love but also about a great story of two very different people whose lives have intertwined by horrors and mean people.

Recommends it for: fans of Danielle Steel, romance, mystery, violence
Oh my! That is what I felt the entire book. This book was so crazy! It's definitely one of the better DS books that I have read. This would be a great introduction to DS if you have never read her before.

So basically the book has two different POVs. One is of Marshall. He was into the undercover work and spent years in a jungle with a drug lord to bring him down. This is how the book starts. But after his mission ends, his superiors were worried that he went too deep. So they assign him to be S

I remember reading Danielle Steel when I was a lot younger. A guilty pleasure then. Now, I don't even know why I liked her. This book had no plot whatsoever. The characters are so typical and unremarkable, as is their love story.

Although the end of this book was predictable like all of Danielle Steel's books are, this book seemed to be a departure from her normal and I would actually rate this 3 1/2 stars. It starts out with Pablo and Paloma and Raul in the jungles of Colombia running a drug ring. Fairly quickly in you find out that Pablo is really Marshall Everett, a DEA undercover agent. There is a leak and he is exposed and has to leave suddenly, leaving behind his pregnant love, Paloma who happens to be Rauls's sist ...more
