Justin is a famous playwright and was accused of murdering his soon-to be ex-wife. They had fought and he had told her he was filing for divorce. Right after that, he found her dead outside in the snow. There was not enough evidence to convict him and as a result he lives in the countryside and hates reports/outsiders. Kristin is on her way to visit her cousin when she get caught in a blizzard. She seeks shelter at Justin's home.
My first impressive of Justin was not favorable. I thought he was unnecessarily mean and made assumptions with out allowing Kristin to defend herself. I also though he was creepy and inappropriate. Okay, so Kristin in soaking wet and hypodermic and unconscious. I didn't have an issue with him undressing her to warm her up. I did have a problem with him taking off her underwear (it's mentioned she was not wearing a bra) and then watching her sleep (once he know she was stable and warm). The underwear didn't need to come off and once she was out of the woods, he didn't need to stay and stare at her.
Plenty of insta-lust (sorry, I mean love!). They have a hard time keeping their hands off each other. And I have no idea, none, what the attraction was. They also have (repeatedly) unprotected sex (at least I assume- no mention is made of condom use or even a conversation). This is a holy fucking no in contemporary romance. I don't need to read it multiple times, but I need it mentioned at the very least once.
At the end, I still thought Justin was a judgmental asshole. And they were in LOVE. After, like, a week. The murder mystery was eh. No suspense in this one.

First of all, ridiculous name for a book. Snowfire isn't a thing, Heather; stop trying to make it a thing.
Anyway, I grabbed this off of Overdrive during spring break, thinking it was a different author (obviously my observation skills suck). It wasn't until the end that I realize who the author really was, and then I understood why the writing wasn't better. It was a typically romantic mystery/thriller from the '90s, with all the clichés you'd expect. It was decent enough to read while my kids watch incessant hours of Disney+.

What a way to get things done and out in the open. Whoa this was sweet but with suspense. I really enjoyed all of it and the banter between the characters as well.

I’m really tired of books that waste time on sexual encounters. I’m reading it for a mystery story and all I got was a dirty book. Lost me after that bedroom scene.

This was so bad that I skimmed the last 3 chapters. And there were 12 chapters. If someone's skimming a quarter of your book, you should know it's bad. Especially if the book's a murder mystery and the quarter skimmed was the last quarter of the book.

I think this book was worse than The Wives. At least that one was actually vaguely entertaining. This one was just completely sucky.
The name of the hero was SO stupid: Justin Magnasun. What???? That's the dumbest last name I have ever heard. It's so... stupid.
The heroine was dumb. So was the hero. Actually, all the people in this were really dumb. She and Justin knew each other for a whole WEEK before deciding they were in love. Like... come on. Nobody falls in love in a week. They barely even knew anything about each other! God it was so bad. Anyway, also, Justin's a creep. He's always rude and mean to Kristin, and like, right after she takes shelter in her house, he... oh gosh, I can't say it. Here, I'll post my reading notes here.
See what I mean? And it was all narrated in a sweet and romantic light, but like... am I the only one finding this really really creepy? If someone just starts... taking off your clothes while you're sleeping, hypothermia or not, it's weird. Also, keep in mind that they have literally had one 2 minute long conversation at this point. They don't even know each others names...
Also, the writing's just plain bad. I noted down a couple examples of this, but believe me when I say there were way more than I'm gonna put in here.
In the beginning of the book, Justin got hella mad because Kristin was freaking out. He was acting as if she was super unreasonable and stuff but like... she wasn't??? Think about it: you wake up in a random person's bed, naked, and they're just sitting in the corner staring at you, and they say they've been there the whole time you've been sleeping.

Adding on to that, the dialogue Sucks. Yes, the S is capitalized for a reason. Because the dialogue is just that bad. They keep following threads that weren't even there, they don't sound like real people, they just... they suck. Emotions come and go within literal in-story seconds. One minute these two are arguing, the next they're... you know.
And then like 2/3 of the way through it just turns into a murder mystery???? What the hell???? Why???? Who would make this choice??? It was SO bad. The murder mystery part happened for a grand total of like... 2.5 chapters, I think? And you were only introduced to all the suspects when that part of the book started, so really you had only... a chapter, max, to think about who had done it. This author really needed to figure out whether she wanted to write a love story (cough cough LUST story) or a murder mystery. Because this integration of them both just... didn't work. Like at all.

K so first of all: this dialogue is awful. Second of all: HE JUST STARTS TAKING OFF HER CLOTHES WHILE SHE'S SLEEPING WTF THAT'S SO WEIRDDDD

Justin Magnusun has hated reporters since the murder of his wife 5-years-ago. Now interest in her murder is being rekindled in the news and reporters are hounding him again. So, when Kristin Kennedy shows up at his country house in the middle of a blizzard, he believes she is just snooping for more information.
This book could have been shortened considerably if Justin and Kristin had actually talked to each other. Him accusing her of trying to get an exclusive story got to be really old. Of course, when she got mad at him, then she decides to start digging into his past and find out who really killed his wife. My rating: 2.5 Stars.

Never read a book by this author, likely won’t again. Thought it was going to be a murder mystery but it was more a non-romantic “romance”.

I saw that they were removing this book from Kindle Unlimited so after reading the description, I had to give it a go and I was not disappointed. Well, maybe a little but that's only because I'm mainly an erotic romance girl. Not usually one for mystery novels but hey, every now and then I will give them a chance. This is my first Heather Graham read and I will definitely be reading even more. The story was a perfect blend of mystery and romance, and I have to say, the romance parts were H-O-T!! A little spicy but not too much.
Most of the time, I found myself getting annoyed at Justin's behavior and the way he was treating Kristin, but I guess given his situation and his past, he had a reason to be suspicious and paranoid but rude and a sarcastic smart ass? No. There were a lot of times that I just wanted to slap him, or for Kristin to do that but I still kept my faith that he would eventually come around and start being civilized if not nicer. I'm glad that he did, but the whole moody, wishy-washy crap with him just had me shaking my head and scoffing. Typical man. I think Katy Perry's "Hot N' Cold" would be a perfect song for him. Actually, it could apply to Kristin too. There were moments when I was as annoyed with her abrupt, schizophrenic, bi-polar crap as I was with Allison's behavior on "As The World Turns" whenever Chris Hughes tried to get close to her. Another Allison. Ugh!
Still, I thought it was sweet how much he cared for her when he was actually being nice and not an ass. The way he was with her when he brought her into his house, stripped her down, put her in that bath and then into his bed, doting on her like a nurse. It got me right in the feels when he was checking her pulse and breathing and making sure she was alright. And how he took his time with her when they finally had sex. And I have to say that I started to giggle excitedly at the little cat-and-mouse game/dynamic they had going on, especially all those unexpected passionate kisses and him taking control of her actions, picking her up and placing her on the bed. The Dominant sexual tension was hot! Even if it wasn't meant to come off that way.
The end also got me right in the feels! I was DROWNING in them, it was so sweet! Insisting that he take her to the hospital and that she stay overnight, then staying with her while she was there is definitely something one of my male characters would do in my fiction so it had me grinning and really warmed my heart. Especially the part about her walking herself home if he didn't stay. Yep! Definitely my main character and her boyfriend for real! And then the proposal! OMG! I didn't see that coming! Not at all. But again. . .drowning in FEELS! It couldn't be more perfect. Though maybe it would've been better outside of the hospital but coming from Justin. . .I didn't expect that. Looks like he finally learned his lesson. Good man.

August 2, 2024Both the hero (Justin) and heroine (Kristin) were annoying. The hero threaten his wife, who was messing around on him and tried to make it seem as if he hurt her at their house in the woods, because he told her that he didn’t want to be with her anymore. He wrote plays and she starred in it. People, whom they work with was at their house and thought he hurt her. He told her that he would kill her. He leaves the house to get away from the chaos and as he starts to return, he sees a woman lying in snow. Come to find out it was his wife and she was dead and guests came out and seen him with the body and thought he killed her. I don’t recall reading where he had gone to jail for her death. 5 years later, the heroine car stops in the snow. She gets down to go try to get help. The house she goes to is the hero house, and he has an attitude, because he automatically things she’s a reporter, who wanted to come to his house to interview him about his wife’s death and he told to stay away.
He kept accusing the heroine of being that reporter and she told him she wasn’t and tried to tell him she was only looking for help with her car. The car didn’t start for her, but strangely it started for him and when she gets back in her car, it gives her problems again.
The hero and heroine did not have any chemistry. The hero kept accusing the heroine of being the reporter, which she was a reporter, but not one trying to do a story on him. On her way to her cousin’s house, Kristin Kennedy’s car stalls. Walking toward a nearby house, the angry owner accosts her and tells her to leave. She does and her car spins out in a snowdrift. She has no choice except to walk back to the angry homeowner and ask for assistance. He thinks she is the nosy reporter who pestered him about an interview. Five years earlier, Justin Magnasun was accused of murder but was released due to lack of evidence. Now he’s afraid fingers will start pointing again. She is a reporter but did not know who he was. How can she tell him the truth and still keep his trust?
I did not care for Kristin's character. Justin learned that she was a reporter and thought she had used him to get her story. She told him she meant to tell him, just couldn't find the right time. Words were said by both and she told him he owed her an apology. Why? She's the one who owes an apology for her deception.

Justin is living a quiet life in his dream home in New England. He receives a call from a reporter wanting an interview. He refused and said he would not let her in in she was foolish enough to make the trip.
Kristen struggles in the deepening snow, trying to make it to the house she sees--Justin's house.
He ultimately rescues Kristen, but continues to think she is the reporter who called. The situation is made worse by the fact she is a reporter, just not that reporter.
Kristen learns Justin was in seclusion because he had been accused and acquitted of his wife's murder. Kristen does nor believe he is guilty and embarks on a mission to prove his innocence.

Ever judge a book by its cover? The cover shown on good reads in not the cover my Kindle sucked me in with. I thought I was branching out in my reading genres and I was going to try a murder mystery from a famous author. But it was a steamy romance with a hint of intrigue. I didn't like the main guy character. He was an egotistical jerk whose communication style was rude except when he was in the throes of passion. The woman was no better because "she was in love with him." Honestly, my favorite character in this book was the cousin of the main character, Roger. I should say more about plot or setting or something, but since I didn't like the book what is the point? I don't know if I'll ever try any of her other books or not.

WOW!
Wonderful book. Couldn't put down until I finished. That was at 5:15 this morning and I had to be up for the day at 7:00 this morning!
It was worth it.
Mystery, great romance, strong main characters, wonderful dialogue, super descriptions of scenes of every type to the extent I could really see them in my mind as I was reading. That doesn't always happen. Worth saying again, That Doesn't Always Happen!
I've read sooo much for so many years that recently I told my hubby I was going to stop reading fiction for a while because the books just didn't seem to grab my attention anymore,
even ones by authors I really like.

I couldn't get past the first chapter with the guy who keeps talking about strangling and killing people; the ridiculous woman who drives into the middle of nowhere in a blizzard and acts like an idiot; and then the scene where she passes out and he undresses her and starts ogling her naked body (which is described extensively in overwritten, bad-romance-novel detail).
Here's a typical sentence: "He laid her back, hardened his jaw and decided to strip away the bikini panties. Why leave her in that little wisp of lace? Wet lace."
Just complete drivel. I know some people like romance novels more than other people, but even for a romance novel, this one is ridiculous.
Here's a typical sentence: "He laid her back, hardened his jaw and decided to strip away the bikini panties. Why leave her in that little wisp of lace? Wet lace."
Just complete drivel. I know some people like romance novels more than other people, but even for a romance novel, this one is ridiculous.

A pleasant enough short romance novel that was good in the moment but was both extremely predictable and almost instantly forgettable.
Some days it feels like if you have read one romance novel, you have read them all. The plot is along the lines of...
- Male and female characters meet in dramatic circumstances
- They don't like each other but there is sexual tension
- Said tension is either relieved or it isn't (wouldn't want to spoil this for anyone)
- There are lies
- The truth comes out
- It ends (again, don't want to spoil exactly how it ends but it's fairly predictable).
Maybe I should stick to Science Fiction / Crime novels.

Re-read: May 2024
Read this a long time ago, when I was about 16 or 17 and loved it, considered her my favorite author, but re-reading it at age 22? meh, not so good, don't think I'll read it again, idk why her FL and ML (male lead) are always at each and deny their obvious attraction to each other and then waste a lot of time only to still be with each other again. Same with all her other books, it's almost like it's the character with different name in her her books. It's really tying, I hate to admit it because I really love Heather graham 😢. I'll keep digging through her works tho.

I think 1 word sums up this book, predictable. Girl gets stranded, boy and girl screw each other senseless without knowing each other. Girl is hiding something and boy finds out, boy gets mad but eventually realizes that after only a week he's madly in love with someone he knows nothing about.....
Eh. I gave it three stars bc the writing isn't bad and the mystery part was alright, just predictable.

Detailed then deadline
The book started out with good description and detail. The romance was rushed between the two characters, but it's fiction, so we suspend the disbelieve. The last 10% of the book contained 3/4 of the plot -and the best part. It was a murder mystery that would have been so interesting. It read like there was a deadline on an unfinished book that the bare bones of the plot got turned it. So disappointing.

Yikes! I Couldn't do Anything but read
I LOVED the entire story from start to finish! Their banter was so real and cutsie and aggravating at the same time. Graham has a skill and now that I have discovered her, I guess my house will never be cleaned until I exhaust all her other stories!

Not a good effort
I like heather Graham's books. Generally they are well written with carefully designed plots and intriguing characters. Not this time. The characters were flat and the ending obvious. I can't help thinking of this book as an example of a noted author "phoning in" a story to meet a committed deadline.

Murder and romance
Kristin and Justin have an unusual start, but due to weather snd chemistry their relationship quickly turns. They start to work on solving a murder, though unwillingly on one part. The neighbors are family and the actions are well described. Cute ending and not something that I figured out before the book ended.

That dialogue is the quickest way to ruin a book.
This book is the epitome of that.
Maybe it’s a genre thing. This isn’t a genre I generally read, so my expectations might be unrealistic or naive. But. It was cringey.
AND ALSO. It’s a book, written by a woman, about a man who gets away with verbally harassing, bullying, and manhandling a woman — but it’s okay, because he’s rich, romantic, and has had pain in his life.
Seriously.

This or this or that?
The struggle between beautiful imagery of New England, the romantic developments and the underlying suspense of 'who done it' were not evenly balanced. I'm so used to the author's developing background characters a bit more before offering a solution that I felt bit of a letdown as the mystery wss resolved.
