The first lie made Lily a savior. The second framed Clara for murder.
If it weren't for Lily, Clara would still be a total outcast, shunned for her role in an incident that gave her a criminal record and ruined another girl's life. She's spent the past two years trying to escape that night, and ever since Lily Dalton befriended her, she's almost succeeded. After all, Lily's the golden girl of the high school—smart, popular, beloved by all—and as her best friend, Clara's now the bright, hard-working chemistry whiz.
But is Lily really just the good-hearted friend who saved Clara from the past? Because lately Lily has been talking about certain classmates and teachers—about wanting revenge. Do you ever think about making them pay? she asks. How would you do it? Lily has to be joking. At least that's what Clara thinks, until she finds a folder that outlines a deadly plan, including detailed steps and a list of targets in their school.
Shockingly, there's even more to Lily's plan, and it has everything to do with Clara. After all, everyone already knows what she did two years ago. Suddenly all the evidence has been turned against her, and there's no way she can prove her innocence. And the people on that list of targets? One after the next, they're meeting terrible fates, and Clara's looking guiltier by the second. It's up to Clara to find the truth and clear her name, before it's too late.
Big thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Fire for the ARC! Expected to be published in March of 2026.
I own almost all of Natalie D. Richards’ books and I always enjoy reading them! Two Perfect Lies was no exception.
Clara became an outcast two years ago after an incident involving criminal charges. However, becoming friends with Lily helped restore her reputation and save her future education in chemistry. One day Lily suddenly starts acting suspicious – asking how to blow up cars, asking if Clara ever wants to get revenge on other students and teachers, and just acting strange in general. Before Clara can turn Lily in for conspiracy to harm someone, she finds herself once again being arrested for the plan. It seems Lily has pinned it all on her and Clara has to find out why before the evidence is too stacked against her.
Just like Richards’ other books, the suspense kept me engaged in the book. The suspense wasn’t super intense (not that it has to be in order to be suspenseful) but it kept me intrigued. I love how the answers to the mysteries are slowly fed to the reader little by little throughout the book. Mysteries such as what Clara did two years prior, what Lily was planning to do, why Lily was planning any of it in the first place.
All the payoff to the suspense and mystery was just okay. I honestly expected a little bit more. Maybe like another plot twist to make it even more satisfying. But regardless it all wrapped up well enough.
It wasn’t the most intense book from Richards’ that I’ve read, but it was still enjoyable and entertaining. Suspense and mysteries that keep you guessing and wondering what is going to happen.
This was a great, bingeable young adult thriller. I enjoyed following Clara in this story as she worked to clear her name and figure out why her best friend was framing her. This book had an intriguing storyline and complex characters, making it hard to put down. Two Perfect Lies was packed with twists and turns as well as secrets and lies and kept me guessing as to how it would end. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one.
Two Perfect Lies was jam packed with crazy twists and even more unexpected turns! I totally loved Clara and how she was determined to clear her name.. The twists and turns will keep you at the edge of your seat and second guessing until the very end..
“Two Perfect Lie”s by Natalie D. Richards hooked me from the very first chapter. The pacing is fast, the tension feels real, and the characters are layered in ways that make you question everyone’s motives. I loved how it balanced suspense with real emotional depth, especially around friendship and trust. It’s one of those thrillers where you keep saying “just one more chapter” until suddenly it’s midnight.
The story kept me guessing the whole way through and delivered some genuinely surprising twists that actually made sense. Richards writes teens in a believable, grounded way without making them feel like caricatures. They feel real and raw and you experience every emotion right along with them.
I really enjoyed Two Perfect Lies, especially Clara’s journey as she fought to be believed in a world that had already deemed her untrustworthy because of an incident in her past. Watching her try to uncover the truth while constantly being doubted was both frustrating and compelling, and it kept me emotionally invested throughout the story.
The plot was intriguing from start to finish, and I loved how Lily’s scheme was slowly revealed piece by piece. There were several moments where I genuinely thought Clara was done for, which made the tension feel real and effective. The twists kept me guessing, and I couldn’t stop reading once everything started to unravel.
Thank you to Sourcebooks Fire for providing this book for review via NetGalley.
Two Perfect Lies is one of those books where you can read in a sitting. The pages flew by, it had me hooked!
I really enjoyed Clara’s journey as she fought to be believed, as everyone has deemed her untrustworthy due to an incident in her past.
The plot was intriguing, and I loved how it all slowly came together as more and more of Lily's scheme got revealed. At several points I thought Clara was absolutely done for and there was no getting out of this for her.
Really liked this and I am excited to read more from Natalie D. Richards

Clara has been a social pariah ever since she was arrested her freshman year for a mysterious event involving one of her friends being injured. When her best friend frames her for a bombing plan and the targets start being attacked, she must clear her name with the help from the Haitian immigrant boy she has a crush on and absolutely no help from her lawyer or a biased police department.
Two Perfect Lies tackles a lot of important social issues while still remaining a fast-paced, engaging thriller; bullying, police misbehavior, racism/xenophobia, and the desperation that can be a result of abuse. Despite how awful Lily is as a person, this is one of the few books I’ve read recently where I actually felt like when the characters sympathized with the antagonist, it was justified. Of course, Lily does unforgivable things, but it really seems like a lot of books attempt to push the rhetoric that the main characters believe the antagonist was lovable or had redeeming qualities or a sympathetic past or whatever and it can fall flat if you don’t actually understand the way certain things could make people desperate. Sometimes the desperation is something as boring as “really wanted to have sex with this one person and they said no” or something like that, and I will say that Lily’s desperation is a lot more believable than those sorts of villain origin stories.
The romance was also believable despite the fast pace. Clara and her love interest Henry have both been pining for each other from afar, which made the fast development of their relationship more believable. Of course, it could also be argued that their relationship is partially trauma bonding because they’re in this awful situation together, but it didn’t feel like it was just that. Another important social issue that this book tackles is the very contemporary issue of people genuinely believing Haitian immigrants in Ohio ate people’s pets, which will hopefully provoke a reaction of “how could anyone ever believe this?” if someone reads this book in fifty years. The police department in this novel is highly flawed, and explicitly stated to have racism issues. The white (but poor) main character, Clara, comes to realize this when the Haitian immigrant family believes she’s being framed because of their negative experiences with the police department.
My only complaint is really that it’s very convenient that nobody confiscated Clara’s old phone or caught her using it and got rid of it, and I think the plot would’ve felt less convoluted if she had to only access her accounts at the library or on someone else’s phone, but that’s a very minor complaint. Clara did make some pretty stupid choices in this book, but she’s a teenager. It’s what they do.
If you’re highly sensitive to depictions of grooming or incestuous sexual abuse of children/teenagers, this is probably a book you want to steer clear of. I do think it’s written about in a sensitive way, unlike some other books I have read that tackle the subject. There is both an antagonist who is a victim of it, and a positive side character who is a victim. It clearly doesn’t say that all victims of it turn into evil caricatures, but it is pretty relevant to the plot. It’s handled well, but if it is a subject that triggers you you’ll want to read other thrillers.
Two Perfect Lies releases March 3 from Sourcebooks Fire. Thank you to Netgalley, Sourcebooks and Natalie D. Richards for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
Thank you NetGalley and Sourcebooks Fire for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Natalie D. Richards delivers another gripping and emotionally charged YA thriller with “Two Perfect Lies,” which is a story packed with secrets, betrayals, and the haunting question of how far someone will go for revenge. Fast-paced and twisty from beginning to end, this story cements Richards as a master of teen suspense.
The book centers on Clara, a bright but ostracized high schooler trying to rebuild her life after a past mistake left her with a criminal record and a shattered reputation. Her saving grace seems to come in the form of Lily Dalton, the golden girl of their school; she is popular, confident, and seemingly effortlessly kind. With Lily’s friendship, Clara finally begins to feel like she belongs again.
But when classmates and teachers start becoming targets in a string of disturbing incidents, Clara’s world collapses once more. Evidence begins to pile up against her, and whispers of guilt echo through the halls. Every clue, every piece of “proof,” points to Clara — and when she discovers Lily is the one who thought of this detailed, sinister plan for revenge, the horrifying truth comes into focus. Lily isn’t the savior she seemed. She’s the puppeteer, and Clara’s been set up as the perfect scapegoat.
Richards excels at bringing tension and emotion together, keeping you on edge while grounding the story in raw, relatable teen struggles — guilt, identity, and the desperate need for redemption. The dynamic between Clara and Lily is especially compelling: it’s a chilling portrait of toxic friendship and manipulation that feels frighteningly real. I felt so much empathy for Clara who just wanted to move on from the worst moment of her life, but it seems like everyone around her never wants her punishment to end.
While there are a lot of characters and a fair amount of high school drama to track at first, the story quickly finds its rhythm. The pace is relentless; every chapter ends with a revelation or twist that propels you forward. Clara’s determination to uncover the truth and outsmart Lily, despite being cornered and disbelieved, makes her an easy character to root for. There is also a bit of romance that didn’t overwhelm the plot as Clara learns to depend on those close to her that love her no matter what.
One of the book’s strengths is its moral complexity. Lily isn’t portrayed as pure evil; she’s deeply troubled, her motives born from pain as much as malice. The story gets pretty dark when Lily’s motive and backstory are revealed, but the book doesn’t go into too much detail on it. Similarly, Clara isn’t a flawless heroine; she’s made mistakes, and her struggle for forgiveness and self-worth gives the story real emotional weight. The ending ties everything together neatly, delivering both closure and catharsis without losing its intensity.
Overall, “Two Perfect Lies” is a darkly addictive YA thriller. It’s part psychological puzzle, part emotional reckoning. With its layered characters, breathless pacing, and just the right amount of high school drama, it’s perfect for those who love mysteries that keep them guessing until the very end.
Thank-you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
All High School junior Clara wants to do is forget about the terrible accident that happened last year. The terrible accident that nearly destroyed her life. But her fellow students have long memories. She knows she's at fault and what she did was wrong. She's paid her penance. No one else thinks so. No one accept Lily, the only friend Clara has. Lily is the perfect student, perfect daughter, perfect friend.
Isn't she?
When Clara discovers a plan of Lily's that shocks her to the core, Clara is left wondering what has happened to the perfect friend she used to have. Except that plan is just the beginning and soon Clara finds herself reliving her past mistakes while trying to prove her innocence. Because if she doesn't, her future will vanish all together.

My reactions:
Ok. So I did overall enjoy this book. I've enjoyed a few other books by this author and I was glad to enjoy this one too! It's always fun to be a repeat reader of an author. For me it was a solid three stars. It was almost a 3.5 until the ending.
Mostly, I just had issues pacing. And the ending. The beginning felt a bit slow before taking off suddenly. These set-up chapters just didn't feel like they were grounding me enough in the story. By the end, I could recognize all the details that were important and see some of the things that were happening and how it all comes together. But it just never felt like we were settled with the characters. Which resonated throughout the book I think, being grounded with the characters. When we learned what the Accident with Cadence was, it was kind of a let down and not worth the drawn out mystery of what happened. I never felt the severity of the situation.
The ending also felt rushed and I wasn't satisfied with how things were wrapped up in regards to getting answers...and the truth of what happened and why what happened did. Between the reveal with Mariana and Lily's pasts, I was a little disappointed in how quickly some of those issued were glazed over.
I think the author does a great job at creating tension for her wronged characters and does a great job at creating a mystery to bring her reader in. Over all I would recommend this book. It's a great blend of suspense and coming of age as Clara reconciles her past mistakes and I do like seeing her take accountability. A good comp title would be "A Good Girls Guide to Murder" or Natasha Preston's "The Dare."
Thank you SourceBooks Fire and Netgalley for this eARC, these opinions are my own. This one was fast paced and very enjoyable! When she was a freshman Clara made a huge mistake, one that cost someone else their future, and made her a criminal. Now it’s her senior year and if it weren’t for her best friend Lily, she would still be an outcast. She still kind of is people really only seem to tolerate her because of her relationship with Lily. You see Lily is the golden student, she’s smart, popular, and everyone loves her. If you are good with Lily then you are good with everyone. But lately Lily has been acting a little off. She’s started asking questions about blowing cars up and talking about people at school who should be taken down, she’s even joked, well Clara thinks it’s a joke, about murder. Then Clara finds a folder that outlines a deadly plan that includes detailed steps and names of targets. Clara decides to get help, only to find that that she is now the suspected terrorist. This has to be a mistake right? Lily will correct them right? Only no one believes her that this was all Lily’s stuff. And more and more evidence is coming to light that makes it seem like Clara was about to do something terrible. She has no way to prove her innocence. Then the people are the target list start to meet terrible fates and Clara is looking guiltier then ever. If Clara doesn’t want to spend the rest of her life in jail she’ll have to find the truth and clear her name. But when all the cards are stacked against you is there really any hope? I think Natalie D. Richard’s very much has me in that feeling of being careful who you trust after this book! A thrill ride that had me hooked from start to finish! I was on the edge of my seat needing to know what happens next, and most of all why? All with a satisfying ending that I didn’t quite see coming! Highly recommend for mystery lovers!
Thank you so much Sourcebooks Fire for the ARC! Read this review on my blog here! https://emmaisabookworm.blogspot.com/... 😘 - there is a slight side plot with romance but not very descriptive 🤬 - language is pretty clean for YA 13+ because the stakes are pretty high and a bomb threat is part of the main plot
I love Natalie D. Richard’s books and this one did not disappoint! Her thrillers pull you in and make you INVESTED. I started this book the day after I got it (because I didn’t check my mail the day it came - my bad), read a little before bed, woke up and finished it the next morning. It is a page turner and I felt myself getting worried for Clara and how she was going to get out of the mess she is in.
☆⛤♥⭑plot⭑♥⛤☆ Clara is the hard working chemistry kid and best friends with the golden girl of the school, Lily. If not for Lily, Clara would still be an outcast. But Lily doesn’t seem as nice anymore. Now, she’s talking about people she wants revenge on. Clara assumes she’s joking and plays along, until it becomes serious when Clara finds a folder filled with details of the plan. When evidence turns up against Clara, she thinks she’s doomed. Everyone knows what happened two years ago so it isn’t looking good. There is no way for Clara to prove she’s innocent. The people in the folder are all meeting unfortunate fates and time is running out.
☆⛤♥⭑clara⭑♥⛤☆ She was such a deep character and I really felt for her, especially her drive to go to a good college. She is really smart, as the reader sees throughout the story. Oh, and “what happened two years ago”? The book takes a chunk of time to get to what really happened then, which made me want to keep reading and it is SO INTERESTING!! The stakes were crazy high for clara, making the book a page turner.
☆⛤♥⭑lily⭑♥⛤☆ She is lowkey a psychopath. This isn’t a spoiler, because Clara figures out Lily planted the evidence early on. I kept being shocked by how far her plan was going and how weel it was working. It was just wild.
☆⛤♥⭑the mystery/thriller aspect⭑♥⛤☆ Have I said this book was a page turner? So good, pretty fast paced and definitely kept me guessing. Even though you know what kind of happened there is still so much to uncover!!
☆⛤♥⭑the romance aspect⭑♥⛤☆ I don’t know, I don't feel like the romance was necessary in this book. It felt really fast and kind of distracted from the main plot
Overall, this book is a great thriller! I don’t think it is my favorite Natalie D. Richards book but it is still pretty high up there!!!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ TWO PERFECT LIES by Natalie D. Richards (Mar 3, 2026)
Thank you Netgalley and Sourcebooks Fire for the earc
After an incident left her shunned, Clara is an outcast...until Lily befriends her. She's the golden girl who brought Clara back from the past, but now Lily's talking about revenge. Clara believes she is joking, but when Clara finds herself thrown into the plan, she must prove hwr innocence before someone else ends up d*ad. TWO PERFECT LIES is a YA thriller where nothing is as it seems. From the beginning, I didn't know what to expect, and the way this played out really baffled me. All kinds of shady stuff was happening with Clara and Lily, and it was really hard to actually pinpoint what was going on---I knew that it would somehow go deeper than betrayal, and to know everything that led up to and after the events really put things into perspective. I have read all except one of Natalie D. Richard's YA backlog, and TWO PERFECT LIES is hands down my favorite. It was bingeable, because of my need to know, well, everything. It was riddled in mystery that mixed perfectly with drama and lies. This is one of those reads where everything happens rather quick, and each chapter brings a new something: whether it be a new threat, new piece of evidence, new ally or enemy. The ending was a bit shocking, and I didn't think it would lead up to that. TWO PERFECT LIES is a must-read for fans of Natalie, plus fans of mysteries in general.
The framing happens pretty early on in the book and so the majority of the plot is Clara trying to clear her name. The author did a nice job of building tension as the school administration, and even the people close to her, start doubting her.
As for why she was being framed, I figured out what was up with Lily very early on in the book, I just wasn't sure how Clara fit into it. Honestly, I really wish we had gotten more about Lily and her mindset; her perspective had a lot of potential, but we didn't get as much of it as I would have liked.
CHARACTERS
Clara isn't a typical 'can-do-nothing wrong' sort of main character that is common for YA, which I really enjoyed. There were definitely moments when I felt she was making some pretty questionable decisions, but overall I was still rooting for her.
Although he felt a little unrelated to the central plot at times, Henry was a very sweet love interest. I liked that he actually took what Clara said into consideration, and didn't force her to do anything she didn't want to do.
Lily was the stand out character for me. On my first read, I absolutely despised her. Then I reached the end of the book and realized why she framed Clara, as well as what mindset she must have been in. Her actions were awful, but I was able to read into the desperation and resentment she felt.
Clara, once a social outcast with a criminal past, rebuilds her life after befriending Lily, the school’s golden girl. But when Clara discovers Lily has a detailed revenge plan targeting classmates and teachers, she realizes something is deeply wrong. As people on the list start meeting violent ends and the evidence points to Clara, she must uncover the truth and prove her innocence before it’s too late.
Even though this is YA, I was completely hooked from the first chapter. I devoured this book in a single day, which honestly says everything about how gripping the story is. The pacing is fast, the tension is constant, and the suspense never lets up long enough for you to lose interest.
The dynamic between Clara and Lily is what really drives the story. Their friendship feels intense, complicated, and unsettling in the best way, the kind where you’re never quite sure what’s real and what’s manipulation. Clara is a compelling narrator: flawed, vulnerable, and easy to root for, especially as the story twists deeper into paranoia and fear. Lily, on the other hand, is chilling, charming on the surface, but slowly revealed to be something far darker.
Overall, this was a fast-paced, addictive, and surprisingly dark read. If you like psychological thrillers, twisted friendships, and high-stakes mysteries, don’t let the YA label stop you, this one is absolutely worth picking up.
Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Fire for an eARC. Two Perfect Lies is available March 3.

This was my first read by Natalie D. Richards, and I was instantly pulled into a web of secrets, guilt, and betrayal that kept me guessing who the real villain was until the very end.
Two Perfect Lies follows Clara, a girl trying to move on from her past until her new friend’s dark revenge plan puts her under suspicion. As people start getting hurt, Clara must prove her innocence before it’s too late.
Richards’s writing is fast-paced and tense, with an emotional, first-person style that keeps the suspense sharp and immediate. I liked how the story maintained steady tension with short, snappy chapters and plenty of twists. Clara’s voice felt authentic, and I appreciated how the story explored guilt and toxic friendship.
That said, a few moments were a bit predictable, and I wished some of the characters, especially Lily, had been more developed. Still, it was a quick, engaging read that kept me turning the pages. If you love YA novels with twisty high-school dramas filled with dark secrets and unreliable friends, Two Perfect Lies delivers.
Thank you, NetGalley and Sourcebooks Fire, for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Two Perfect Lies by Natalie Richards is a fast-paced, twisty thriller that kept me guessing almost to the very end. The premise is immediately gripping, focusing on two girls, two very different versions of the truth, and a mystery where nothing feels completely safe or reliable.
Richards does a great job building tension through short chapters and constant uncertainty. I liked how the story played with perception and trust. Every time I thought I had things figured out, another detail made me question everything again. The atmosphere is tense and unsettling, and the stakes feel personal and urgent.
That said, while the twists were engaging, a couple of reveals felt slightly rushed, and I wished some of the characters, especially the secondary ones, had a bit more depth. Even so, the overall ride was thrilling and hard to put down.
If you enjoy YA thrillers with unreliable narrators, secrets layered on secrets, and nonstop momentum, Two Perfect Lies is a solid, entertaining read that delivers plenty of suspense.
Thank you to Netgalley, SOURCEBOOKS Fire, and Natalie D. Richards for the ARC. Two Perfect Lies by Natalie D. Richards is releasing March 3, 2026.
This gripping psychological thriller hooks the reader on the first page. This is more of a whydunit rather than a whodunit. The main focus is on Clara, betrayed by best friend Lily in a series of escalating incidents. The mystery of what Clara did years earlier keeps the reader turning pages in addition to the twisty central plot. Clara is an easy character to root for, having made a mistake in the past and doing what she can to turn her life around, especially for the sake of her hard-working mother, despite page-by-page the odds turning against her. This book keeps the reader guessing how in the world Clara's going to make it through such a high-stakes situation, especially when it feels like she's on her own trying to prove her innocence. Readers who focus on motivation, like a body count, and enjoy a good game of cat-and-mouse will appreciate Natalie D. Richards' Two Perfect Lies.
Intense, Twisty, and Impossible to Put Down! Two Perfect Lies by Natalie D. Richards had me hooked from the very first page. It’s a brilliant mix of suspense, emotion, and high-stakes drama that keeps you guessing until the very end. Every chapter peels back a new layer of mystery, and just when you think you’ve figured out the truth—another shocking twist hits. The characters are complex and real, each hiding secrets that make you question who you can trust. I loved how Richards weaves tension with heart, creating moments that are both chilling and deeply human. The pacing is perfect—fast enough to keep you flipping pages, but deliberate enough to let the emotional beats sink in. If you enjoy YA thrillers filled with lies, danger, and unexpected revelations, this book delivers in every way. Natalie D. Richards once again proves she’s a master at writing stories that feel both real and riveting.
Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Fire for providing this book, with my honest review below.
Two Perfect Lies looks at two girls, one seemingly perfect and one far from, and pulls a redirect that will speak to any teen (and adult) who just knew no one could actually be perfect.
Lily, Queen of High School, and Clara, who has a past any high schooler would love to mock, have been best friends for a year and a half. That’s what makes it so shocking when Clara discovers Lily has been plotting something terrible… and then ensuring Clara gets blamed for these machinations. The race is on for Clara to figure out why Lily would set her up and what she’ll be blamed for next.
I loved the turns in this book and while I hope no younger adult has to ever deal with this, I do think they’re going to love reading this.
I’m a fan of Natalie D. Richards, and usually love her tense, twisty YA thrillers—but this one fell short for me. The story follows Clara, who’s trying to move on from a painful past, and her new friend Lily, who is clearly out for revenge. What unfolds is a toxic friendship that overshadows the rest of the story.
While Richards still delivers her signature suspense and emotional tension, the toxicity between the characters was so overpowering that it pulled me out of the narrative. I found it hard to stay engaged or root for anyone. It had potential, but for me, it just didn’t have the balance or payoff I’ve come to expect from Richards’ work.
Thank You Net Galley and Sourcebooks Fire for this eARC in exchange for an honest review. I appreciate it. Of course, all opinions are my own.
What an incredible YA thriller! From the moment I picked up Two Perfect Lies, I knew I would be hooked. The less you know going in, the better. This plot is full of twists, secrets, and lies that will keep your mind within the pages of the book.
These characters are in high school and they act like it. This book is great for younger YA readers, but it will also be a really fun time for upper YA readers. Anyone who loves a layered, mysterious plot with plenty of twists and turns will enjoy falling into this story.
I've only read one other book from Natalie D. Richards and, while I enjoyed it, I did think the twist was fairly predictable. I didn't feel that way at all with this book. The twist is impossible to guess, but it makes so much sense when you look back at everything that led up to it. The character development and story progression here is incredible.
There is also a small romantic sub-plot for readers who are into that. I thought the chemistry between the characters was perfect for the story, and I really enjoyed seeing how the relationship played a role in what happened.
If you're looking for a quick, bingeable YA thriller, this one is a great choice. I loved my time reading this and I cannot recommend it enough!
Clara made a mistake in her freshman year, and the result was she became a social outcast. When Lily stepped in and offered her friendship, Clara believed that her future wasn’t so bleak. Clara’s life (and future) took a tragic turn when she discovered Lily’s plan to take revenge on teachers and students … and framed Clara for everything. Is the plan real? Can Clara prove her innocence? Why is Lily doing all of this?
Two Perfect Lies is a stand-alone mystery that made me question if I am too trusting. As the truth is slowly unraveled, readers will need to come to terms with their own relationships and what they allow others to know about them. Richards has created a story that is completely plausible with the right people and as the story came together, I was hoping for a slightly different outcome. A great read for all mystery fans.
I guess I’ll start this review off like this, I got the email that I was approved for this ARC at about 1:40pm … I got off work at 4:30 pm… and I finished at 11pm 🤣 so I literally could not put this book down. This book was so exciting and fast paced my heart was pounding so hard while reading. The twist and the turns, some I didn’t see coming at all. The ending was shocking as was most of the book and I really really enjoyed reading this book!! It’s a classic story of someone trying to take justice into their own hands to prove that they’re innocent. But the twist, the lies, the deceit, the backstabbing. Wow. This book really did have it all. This was my first book by this author and I am now officially hooked!! Such an amazing read!!
This book was a tough one for me to get through. The amount of characters kept confusing me and it was hard to keep track of them. I felt like the main character spun in circles throughout the entire book. It bothers me when characters go wild “proving their innocence” and act like amateur detectives. I also feel like if my kid was accused of bombing a school or killing a teacher I might start using my sick time instead of picking up double shifts. The “bad cop” was ridiculous and over the top. This is definitely a YA book and would be good for high schoolers but with subjects of child exploitation/ inappropriate behavior and a teacher/ sophomore relationship it could be something you want to sensor.
Seventeen-year-old Clara survives high school only because of her friend Lily. No one else trusts Clara, especially the police. She just wants to get through the rest of high school, get into a good pharmaceutical program, and cure Alzheimer's. But Clara has bomb plans in her school bag, and who would believe they aren’t hers? Definitely not Lily - at least not publicly. It takes very little to make someone look like the worst person alive. That concept drew me into the story. Like any of Natalie Richards’ books, this is a fun, action-packed story. Experienced thriller readers won’t find shocking twists here. But it proves to be another well-written adventure. Thanks to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Fire for the advance read.
Thank you to NetGalley, Sourcebooks Fire and Natalie D. Richards for sharing this ARC with me, in exchange for my honest opinions and thoughts.
Natalie D. Richards never ever disappoints. I fell in love with this novel. Ms. Natalie's character development and world building is perfect. The flow is fast-paced, but not too much, it's fun. The story and the suspense will keep y'all on the edge of y'alls seat, and begging for more. This novel is most definitely a page-turner.
If y'all love a great mystery, with just the right amount of twists and turns, then this book is just what y'all need.
