Book about puppies and pirates and a little human boy. Just a short, fun chapter book for young readers.

There were some exciting moments and it's always fun to read pirate voices. However, my 6 year old once told me she was bored. But, I wouldn't take her word for it...she also wanted the cats to win. ;) Lol. As mom, my opinion is that it was good and cute but since it didn't hold her interest, we're moving on to another series.

Didn't appeal to Miss 4. We got about 30% through before she completely lost interest and asked for the next book on her stack.

Miss 4 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.

Maybe like it. I'm not sure. I read this a while back, but didn't add it until a lot later. I remember liking it, but since I don't remember everything, I'm giving it three stars. <*> <*> <*> (<*> is a star)

Incredibility cute story.

So weird. The cover make it look like adorable dogs who are also pirates, but the book is some weird fantasyland where the dogs all wear clothes and talk but then also sometimes behave like dogs too? Also there is a kid in it, which I always find confusing. Why are people and animals coexisting and all wearing clothes and talking to each other?

Mostly, I’m really annoyed that the cover art doesn’t match the story or the illustrations inside.

Puppy Pirates is a children’s book series and the book Stowaway is the first book in the series. The book begins with a puppy named Wally that is a golden retriever that just found the pirate ship. When he finds the ship he also meets two pugs, Piggly and Puggly who repeatedly tell this little pup Wally that he won’t make it as a pirate and should just walk away. When he meets one of the captions he also agrees with the two pugs and tells him to scurry and that he won’t be able to make it he is ...more

Wally, a golden retriever pup, left the farm in order to find a place to call home. When he encounters a crew of puppy pirates he is determined to join them. The problem is that he is afraid of a lot of things and the pirate crew isn't exactly welcoming. So, Wally stows away in a crate of steak. While in hiding he runs into another stowaway, a young boy named Henry. Together the two must face the plank and pass the tests the captain puts before them in order to become part of the crew. I received this as an e-book ARC from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I had planned to read this to my 5 year old, but he didn't show much interest, either it was because it was in an e-book format or possibly because there were not many pictures. Maybe in a year or two, he'll be more interested in this type of book. The story itself was fine. Dogs who were pirates and a puppy, who wanted to be a pirate and feel like he belonged. Although, they 1st laughed at th ...more

I was given this title to review by NetGalley.
The story was read by myself and my 3rd grader. The story idea of a puppy pirate was appealing, and the main character was likeable. There were a few things that bothered us: in Chapter 1 and 6, there were times when we were so confused what was happening that we had to re-read, which is especially problematic in a children's story. Also, talking dogs are great in a story, but when the human starts talking to them there wasn't any explanation as to h

Kinda charming read. The idea was fun (puppies as pirates) but it ran a little slow and there were spots that just went too quickly from one thing to the next, like it was rushing to get to the next scene. But, the battle was fun and showed how using your creativity and ingenuity was good as well as facing your fears even when you are afraid. Not sure how I would feel about letting my nephews or niece read this, though, because it had trickery and rule breaking to be a good and positive thing, e ...more

A swashbuckling adventure for all young puppy lovers and landlubbers. Wally, a self proclaimed scaredy-pup, has dreams of becoming a pirate. Colorful characters are encountered and fun piratical jargon is used that'll have ye talking like an old salty dog. A sweet lesson of bravery and perseverance is taught as one learns that "you can't judge a puppy by his spots". Adorable illustrations appear throughout the book that add to the story's tail wagging charm. Arrrroooo to Puppy Pirates!

This inventiveness can be seen daily in our canine companions. It is a survival technique as well as a source for the joy they make in their lives. Puppy Pirates: Stowaway! (A Stepping Stone Book, Random House, July 7, 2015) written by Erin Soderberg with illustrations by Russ Cox highlights the ingenuity of a youngster seeking exciting escapades.

I so appreciate Erin Soderberg. She is a joy to talk to, but to see her interact with children is wonderful. She knows her audience. And as a result, she writes books that kids WANT to read. This new series is a welcome addition to classrooms and libraries everywhere because you'll never see them. They will always be in the hands of readers.

My daughter wanted me to read this outloud to her for her night time reading time. Now, granted, this is intended to be read by little kids not moms. BUT this was the silliest book I've ever read. It didn't make sense, there was really nothing to it. I feel like kids books can still teach something or have a point...this one just didn't.
Puppy Pirates - the title says it all. Kids who love animals as characters, especially dogs will love this book. It's the first in a series and is a perfect early chapter book for transitional readers. It has black and white pictures and is less than 100 pages. I already have the second book and will be adding it to my third grade classroom library.
