When the dream world spills its murky contents, everyone’s worst nightmares run free.

Blurb:
Dr. Lara McInnis reads auras and flirts with an elusive ability to foretell the future. Ambivalent about the magic within her, she’s done a fine job ignoring other aspects of her power—until now. After several patients—and a student or two—describe the same cataclysmic dream, she un

This book is amazing. It was well written and it also makes you wonder if this will soon come to pass. I love how you get hooked right from the beginning because then you know it will be a fast read. The characters are so easy to fall in love with. Lara is a psychologist that has some powers with reading aura's and sometimes visions. She doesn't know how to control any of it but when her life gets threatened she needs to figure out how to control the visions she is having. There is life and deat ...more

I have to admit, I didn't read the blurb about this book before starting it. I went by the title and thought it sounded like my kind of book.

I read the author's notes at the beginning, and I thought to myself, "Cool. Should be pretty interesting. A good way to while a way a few hours and just veg out."

Well, let me tell you, my preconceived notions going in were blown out the window.

One simply does not read this book to while a way a few hours. You are pulled into the vortex of the author's im

Amazing! Incredible!

I read it in one day. I couldn't stop. It completely swept me away. The characters are so real and the story is realistic. I could connect with all of it. I love the way this book mixes real world issues (or at least if we don't stop wasting resources they will be real) and magic. This is one I could read over and over again. I cannot wait to find out what happens next. This book made me laugh and cry and think... I can not stress how much this book made me think. It complet

I loved the path this book took - so very different from what she had previously written. More science and more psychology.

I want to do a full review of the series and I am just starting book #2. More to come!

Ann is a Prophet!!!

After all, what is the role of a prophet? It is all about spreading a message and speaking for & about the Supernatural. Ann not only does just that, but she does it with such a unique flair that keeps you wanting more! Ann is out there spreading her terrific and dark stories around, making you think of “real life” concerns in a different and Supernatural way! You read this terrific story that has the entire planet in both storing mode and panic mode because of the natura

Not the same ole fantasy you’re used to…

One of the things I like about all of Ann Gimpel’s books is the different slants and mythos she brings to her stories and characters, and Dark Prophesy is no different. This dark, pre-apocalyptic fantasy is filled with gritty realism even with the presence of the Sidhe Fae.

Ms. Gimpel, a former therapist, gives us an authentic portrayal of her therapist heroine and her attempts to rationalize, compartmentalize, and finally accept the “woo woo” world of what

I was gifted this book by the author for an honest review.. Whoa definitely not your ordinary story. Very deep and thought provoking. Not at all what I was expecting, but was immediately hooked.

Dr. Lara McInnis and her fiance Trevor live in a world that is on the cusp of destruction, mass power outages, global warming, riots, all becoming the norm of now, this is not a world with a future.

Lara is a psychologist with a rare gift, she can see people's auras, some would say she was psychic. Her gif

This was a very enjoyable read! I am a huge fan of end of the world books and this one has jumped to the top of my list. The natural resources are running out or have already ran out and there are riots in the streets.

Not paying attention to what's happening in the world Lara tries to help her patients and understand why her visions are coming closer together. Trevor, Lara's long time boyfriend, is hidding a secret that could tear them apart.

This is not a book you can read and put aside. It make

Such a wonderful read!! I totally fell in love with the characters and their story. It's a touch dark, and triggers some deep thinking... but in a wonderfully good way. This storyline mixes real world issues, like how human greed and industriousness is leeching our planet of it's resources with magic and the paranormal. It's a perfect blend.

Looking forward to the next one!!

I gave this 5 stars for the wonderful story and characters I feel I know so well now . I can hardly wait to see the next chapter in their lives! Lara and Tristan are a match in so many ways! I look forward to Raven's appearance in the next book.

First off, can I just say something about that cover? Wowza. The hero is very Scott Speedman circa Underworld era. Did I mention I love Scott Speedman? But back to the book...Ann Gimpel is a master storyteller. She weaves dystopian worlds and themes of protecting the earth that always make me sit back and think, which is a rarity in today's mindless bestsellers. More than just endless sex scenes (although those are pretty hot too!), Dark Prophecy is a book that'll stay with you long after the la ...more

This book was received as part of the GoodReads Giveaways.

Never judge a book by it's cover.

We've all heard that, I 'm sure, but I don't think it has ever been more blatantly true as Dark Prophecy. On the cover is a woman with her head tilted back, lips parted, a man with a hand behind her neck, a small smile on his lips. Inside, where one might think to find an erotic, lust-inducing tale, we instead find a tale of a world where resources are

Dark Prophecy takes us to a world on the brink of destruction. Fossil fuels are scarce and amounts getting harder to come by and prices are through the roof. Once rare power outages are now becoming standard occurrences. Food is disappearing off of shelves faster than it can be restocked. There is rioting and protesting all across the world, especially in harder hit once prosperous countries as tensions mount.

Back in Seattle, WA, Dr. Lara McInnis is a psychologist, oblivious to much of the world

Overall, I found this an interesting read. Unlike a lot of the books I've been reading recently, the main characters are in their forties, and have been together for over a decade. Lara is a psychologist and Trevor is a flight attendant. They met during a flight one night and have been together since. Although their work ambitions are different, they work well together. Lara is successful and owns her own business, including the building her office is located in. She and Trevor live together and ...more

I've read quite a few books by this author and loved her refreshing approach to paranormal romance. I am used to reading about witches, shifters and even the odd alien in Ms Gimpels stories but have to admit this book was a complete surprise. I saw the cover and expected a romance but it's most certainly much much more than that. For a start this is a story featuring an established couple who have been together for several years and yet there are still things to uncover about themselves . Then f ...more

So take everything you're thinking this book might be about and throw it out the window. I had many pre thought concentrates from reading the blurb and I was wrong on all accounts. Hell, I was wrong half way through the book lol. And I was way too hooked to care about being wrong. I've been a fan of Ms Gimpel for a while but this is one of her greats. First it feels so real. Lara is a doctor of psychology, though it's a little more in depth and complicated but you get the gist. Then you start to ...more

This, for me, was a very unexpected, wonderful story. Not because I expected it to be bad but because I have only just began to read her books and expected something very different. Although this story is an apocalyptic urban fantasy, it can just as easily be a story of mans folly in it's ignorance of what we are doing to our environment and what steps we might have to take to survive. The couple in this story, Lara and Trevor, have been together for many years and have accepted their individual ...more

Like Ann Gimpel’s other books, her spin on the world she has created sucks you in almost immediately. Dark Prophesy is no different in fact being set in a pre-apocalyptic world that could actually happen is very well written. What the characters face in this book show what actual human behavior is and how disturbing our mindset could get. The journey Lara and her husband (common law) take will draw you in and keep you on the edge of your seat, especially with Lara coming to terms with her “gift” ...more

I really enjoyed this book. It has everything I needed in a book. The characters were wonderful and well developed. Received this book free for an honest review. Pre-Dystopian Magical Read... Come get it while it's hot. Wow! This pre-dystopian story is magical. Most time you never read about what happened before the world went to hell. This gives us a look from a few perspectives and it's not pretty. It's a lengthy read but you're not left with the feeling of being rushed through the story or left hanging. Great storytelling. I want to dive in and read what happens next.

This is book one in the Dark Prophecy series and is a little different than her other books, it was one that made you take the time to read. What would happen if your world was on the edge of destruction? This is Lara McInnis who reads auras her Sidhe teachers, Lillian and Raven and Trevor Denoble’s story and what happens as their world and themselves are changing and where no one can be trusted. What will happen ?

When I first started to read it took me a little to get going, but once I was in I was hooked. The way Ann can captivate you with her words and get you or if your mind and info her characters is just awesome. The story beings you into the life of Lara and Trevor and you can't help but love them. I recommend this book.

Excellent Storytelling

This book is way different from what I expected.
No spoilers, but a Psychologist and a Flight Attendant wasn't what I thought it would be.
This is real storytelling at it's best. It just draws you in so you have a hard time putting it down.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this one!
