This collection of scientific articles contains just about all that anyone could ever want to know about the family Sciuridae, including tree squirrels, ground squirrels, marmots, prairie dogs, and other medium-sized rodents. I wanted to know more about the behavior and dispersal of marmots living on the ranch where I lived, so I picked up this book online. It contains such rousing chapters as "The Role of Olfactory Communication in the Social Systems of Ground-Dwelling Sciurids," "Recruitment in Yellow-bellied Marmot Populations: Kinship, Philopatry, and Individual Variability," and "Historical Ventilations on a Prairie Dog Town." Published in 1983, I doubt there is a better scientific work on Sciuridae out there. One might even call this work ground-breaking!
