這不是一本探討自閉症的科普書，而是一本自閉兒父母的實務指南。包括：自閉症基本知識、自閉症的診斷、自閉症的風險、自閉症的治療和處遇、自閉症的藥物治療、其他自閉症的治療法、各州和聯邦政府的援助方案、你百年之後孩子的照養問題、自閉症兒童的教育、與自閉症患者同住、壓力等十二個部分，共一百個問答。
書中範圍廣泛的資料，體現了作者身為自閉兒父親的奮鬥積累，他的精神就像羅倫佐的父母一樣，令人感佩。雖然書裡的實務背景是美國，但自閉兒父母不僅要面對自閉症本身，同時還要面對國家法律、福利制度的挑戰是相同的。例如，如何取得成年子女的監護權？如何把財產留給孩子，但又不會使他失去社會補助的權益等等。
