Based on a true story about two sisters and their creative plan to adopt a puppy. Cadence and Emi desperately want a puppy. But their dad isn't quite sure they're ready for all that responsibility. With a little determination and a brilliant plan, the girls show their dad that they are ready to adopt one. After all, they are super persistent, responsible, smart, and creative! Brought to life by Maple Lam's charming illustrations, this adorable picture book about two girls who want to adopt a puppy will delight young readers.
This is a cute book that kids who want, or already have, a puppy will enjoy. Throughout the text however, single words or phrases are in bold-face type and at first I thought perhaps the author was going to highlight vocabulary words such as "persistent" and "responsible", but then the bolding happens to words like "now" and I lost that train of thought. In the end there is no real significance for why the words are bolded. Perhaps just for emphasis? That bit rubbed me the wrong way, but the story and illustrations are enjoyable.
I didn't know this book is based on a Facebook story! I was drawn to the book because I want a puppy too! Lol & I was mostly drawn to it because while flipping through the pages, I noticed specific words, such as "persistent " were in bold. I figured the author was trying to instill new vocabulary into young readers, & even determination & hard work ethics. I myself was impressed at how hard the two girls worked at proving they're capable of being responsible for a puppy. Cute story.
Really surprised at the low ratings! (Makes me wish I could give it an extra star, lol)
I found this one to be a super cute book, even if it does fall into the "my kids do NOT need ideas" category, lol. Maybe my kids could apply the "brilliant plan" to getting something like a fish or a gecko. :)
Two sisters are determined to convince their father they should be allowed to have a dog. As they attempt to prove to him they can be responsible, the reader comes to learn about words associated with the care and supervision of pets. A great learning book.
I was instantly attracted to this book because it talked about two girls wanting a puppy. How can anyone resist reading about that? The book was, predictably, sweet and endearing.
This was an absolutely adorable story that was also very educational. The book focuses on different ideas two little girls have in order to convince their dad to get a puppy. It combined a few tougher words for children like skeptical, persistent, and brilliant, along with others. I think the use of these words is awesome and can be good to teach kids. In addition, this would be a great book to use to teach children how to take an idea and show skills such as being responsible. The illustrations in the book are also very bright, cute, and intriguing.
This was a cute little story, teaching about persistence and having a plan and working toward something you want. What was SUPER fun was at the end, reading that it's based on a somewhat true story! The authors daughters are named Cadence and Emi and they DID want a puppy, and while they didn't do the exact same steps as in the books (they got "likes" online) ... the little info on the flap didn't say if that had worked for them IRL.
This was a cute book. The illustrations were nice and not too busy. I appreciated the author exposing young readers to a few more difficult words and providing some definitions along with the story, such as "persistent." The plot was simple, but satisfying. I liked how the two sisters worked together to reach their goal. I would definitely use this book in a storytime setting.
WONDERFUL! AMAZING! CANNOT SAY ENOUGH GOOD THINGS! This little book teaches kids about responsibility and being a responsible pet owner. It also teaches kids how it is best to find a puppy (or cat...if you like cats) from a shelter to adopt. LOVE!
3.5 stars This story is based on the facebook picture of 2 girls hold in a poster which reads "Hi World We want a puppy! Our dad said we could get one if we get 1 million likes! So Like this! He doesn't think we can do it"
They got 1 million likes in 7 hours and about 5 million when the book was published. It is a cute book about being persistent, responsible, smart and creative
An excellent book to give young children when they invariably ask "Can we get a puppy?" With so many dogs in shelters, many returned after the puppy grew up, it's refreshing to see a book for children that spouses such a great message. Adopting a dog FROM the shelter and taking care of s/he REQUIRES a certain level of maturity and commitment. Bravo to the authors. We need more books like this one.
Inspired by a photo that was posted to Facebook about a family wanting a puppy that got nearly four million "likes", Two Girls Want a Puppy features the two sisters, Cadence and Emi, who devise a plan to show their dad that they are ready to adopt one. This is a perfect primer for a family thinking about getting a puppy and features rich vocabulary words and concepts such as persistence, responsibility, research, and creativity.
I thought this was a cute picture book. It's about two girls who want a puppy. They made of list of things one must be in order to own a puppy. IE, being responsible. It's a cute book that teaches children the hard task of responsibility and deciding if you're ready to take care of an animal. Optional purchase. Ages 5 and up.
Parents beware! Cadence and Emi show how they convinced their Dad to allow them to get a puppy. Their plan to be super persistent, super responsible, super smart and super creative worked. Reviewer 5.
Persistent, responsible, smart, creative Cadence and Emi are two cute sisters who know how to get what they want the right way. Way to work for what you want girls!
Pretty much what you might expect from a book based on a cute Facebook incident with two little girls who want a puppy. I like the illustrations, but this story is all over the place.
