Cheyenne, Wyoming Territory Nov. 1885
Very nice story about a 38 year-old baker / aunt / spinster, and a 40 year old war veteran / painter. She needs someone special to commission a painting of her niece and soon-to-be nephew but is having trouble finding that person. He needs to find work soon or he will have to move on the small town he has grown fond of and doesn't relish the idea of moving yet again.

This was a very sweet novella in the 12 Brides of Christmas collection from Barbour Publishing. Esther runs a successful bakery in Cheyenne, WY and is preparing for her niece's Christmas wedding. A family tradition of giving a Christmas Star ornament with the couple's portrait in the center as a gift for their first Christmas is weighing heavily on Esther's mind. Jeremy is a gifted but starving artist and Esther, though she needs an artist for the portrait, also has plenty of food to spare thank ...more

I have just finished reading The Christmas Star Bride, which I believe is book 9 in the 12 part series. The story takes place in Cheyenne, Wyoming Territory in November of 1885.

Esther Hathaway owns and runs a bakery. She is a single middle-aged woman who has never married, although she has had someone in her past who she lost in wartimes. She lives together with her niece, Susan, who will be getting married. Susan's parents died as Susan was still young and was raised by Esther.

Their family tra

When Esther Hathaway commissions Jeremy Snyder to paint a miniature of her niece for a traditional bridal gift, she has no idea what to expect. Certainly not the kind, compassionate, talented ex-patriot with a permanent disability. She cannot help but be drawn to the man and finds herself inviting him to use the front room of her bakery/cafe as his temporary studio; enjoying the time that they spend together almost every day.

Jeremy Snyder has been drifting from town to town in an attempt to esta

The Christmas Star Bride is #10 in the 12 Brides of Christmas series. Esther Hathaway has dedicated her life to caring for her niece and running the family bakery after her sister and husband die. Esther Hathaway lost her one true love 20 years ago at the battle of Gettysburg, and has spent the last 10 years raising her orphaned niece Susan who is now getting ready to be a Christmas bride. It has been a long family tradition that when you marry, a portrait of the couple is painted into a Christmas star. While searching for the right artist, Esther comes across a newspaper ad for Jeremy Snyder, a traveling artist with wounds of his own left from the war.
As Esther and Jeremy spend time tog

In The Christmas Star Bride, Amanda Cabot has penned an exquisitely sweet romance with a message of enduring hope despite a journey that looks different than you had planned. The Civil War stole away their first loves, whether by death or change of heart, and both Esther Hathaway and Jeremy Snyder have resigned themselves to a lonely life. Their paths cross when Esther commissions Jeremy to continue a family tradition and paint her niece's wedding portrait. It's not long before they both start t ...more

This wasn't the best book but it wasn't the worst either. So far it's been my least favorite out of this series though. There was way too much background to the characters that should have been developed more if it was going to be included but there wasn't room in such a short novella. Because of the extra background information the story was very dry and not nearly as interesting as the others in this series. I was debating between 2 or 3 stars but the ending was kind of cute, even though it co ...more

Traditionally, the bride and her groom are painted on a star. And the past generations stars are also given to the bride. When Susan's parents passed away it became Esther's greatest wish to have Susan's portrait painted and continue the tradition. When Susan and Michael decide to marry, Esther hires Jeremy to paint the portrait. As they spend time together, she begins to wish that Jeremy would settle down. But there isn't much chance of that he enjoys traveling. Can she talk herself in to going ...more

Romance isn’t just for teenagers! This was the sweetest Christmas-spirit romance I have read in a while. Two deeply moving characters who have had heartache early in their lives and refused to let it happen again. Thrown together, they both discover the magic of the Christmas spirit and knowing God is in charge of their lives and future! A unique story-line with a bakery and a painter – it made it a page turner. This was a full story fit perfectly into a novella. I highly recommend this Christma ...more

A very sweet story of second chances. Ester has dedicated her life to caring for her niece and running the family bakery. When she commissions an artist to paint Susan's portrait for her Christmas wedding, Ester finds her second chance at love.

A quick read that will leave you with a smile on your face.

Loved, Loved, Loved this one! What an awesome tradition found in this novella of a Christmas star with a painting of the bride in the star. This was such a sweet story and very well written. This is a Christmas novella I will want to read again.

I really liked this story. The damage the civil war did on relationships can be repaired after a time as in this story. Quick read.

With both parents avid readers, it's no surprise that Amanda Cabot learned to read at an early age. From there it was only a small step to deciding to become a writer. Of course, deciding and becoming are two different things, as she soon discovered. Fortunately for the world, her first attempts at fiction were not published, but she did meet her goal of selling a novel by her thirtieth birthday. ...more
