Alfie's new pet is no ordinary creature—this kitten is touched with magic

Magic comes into Alfie's life when Stardragon tumbles unexpectedly into his lap. Stardragon is a very unusual kitten who transforms into a dragon whenever scared or taken by surprise. Initially it is only Alfie who sees Stardragon morph from timid, purring kitten to fire-breathing, winged dragon. Alfie’s family are very skeptical about Alfie’s claims, but Stardragon soon reveals to Alfie and his family that there is magic everywhere.

About the author

I wrote my first book when I was 8 years old. I glued photos of my cats in a blank book and wrote about them, too. Now I am an internationally-published children's author commended by the Library of Congress for my work encouraging children to read.
I write in a room between a deli and an art gallery on a small town street. I can see families walking by, and I can hear children laughing and playing. It helps me to remember what exactly I'm doing this for - creating books for families all over the world to use together, and helping children to love words.

Alfie's new pet looks like a cat most of the time, but it can change into a dragon too. It's a dragoncat, but no one believe Alfie.

I want a dragoncat! Ok, so maybe I would want a dragoncat...as long as it could control it's fire. Or are all cats really dragoncats and we just haven't noticed. Hmmm. A delightful story filled with whimsy and illustrated charmingly.

This picture book was magical and had beautiful illustrations. Would be great for younger readers, used in a text set about magical/mythical encounters.
