MEET SAWYER– The Mohawk-feathered chicken who manages to escape the brutal Farelli Poultry Farm only to find an abandoned farm pained with secrets, lost hope, a slew of nutty birds and a beast that may very well be responsible for the bloodstained wheat that separates the two farms.

When Sawyer wakes up in a barn, he is introduced to a bunch of colourful characters, each dealing with their own issues. Polly is a pink-feathered fashionista chick known to give relationship advice to Scotty The Seagull and is bent on becoming human. Ella, the last remaining cow, hasn’t spoken a word since her family left the farm. Iddy is an angry teenage duck battling with his mother’s mysterious death and General, a WWII carrier pigeon hasn’t left his nest in three years – not since the owner of the farm vanished.

THE MOST DANGEROUS ADVENTURE OF A LIFETIME...

As Sawyer struggles with his fears of the outside world and the “Giants” and beasts that roam the land, he convinces these birds to embark on a great adventure that will unlock secrets and change their lives forever.

UNLOCK THE MYSTERY OF THE BLOOD MILE. IT WILL CHANGE YOU.

I bought this book reluctantly I have to admit - at the book fair :) I was just passing by, the farm display of the booth was great, and after a short conversation with the Author - I bought the book :D
and I loved it! What a page turner it was! After few pages I was totally transported into that abandoned farm and was staying there watching the animals organizing themselves to do something great! :)
As it says in the blurb - it is a story about the chicken that was saved from slaughter right after it hatched... but it turns out to be much more than that! It is a story about surviving, about growing up, facing fears, working together to save the others. It's a story about coping with grief, finding the meaning of life... Main characters are animals, sure, but it is not hard at all to see just about anyone underneath.
Great job!!! :)

Definitely do not judge a book by its cover (title either!)
