The Blood Mile
MEET SAWYER– The Mohawk-feathered chicken who manages to escape the brutal Farelli Poultry Farm only to find an abandoned farm pained with secrets, lost hope, a slew of nutty birds and a beast that may very well be responsible for the bloodstained wheat that separates the two farms.

I bought this book reluctantly I have to admit - at the book fair :) I was just passing by, the farm display of the booth was great, and after a short conversation with the Author - I bought the book :D
and I loved it! What a page turner it was! After few pages I was totally transported into that abandoned farm and was staying there watching the animals organizing themselves to do something great! :)
As it says in the blurb - it is a story about the chicken that was saved from slaughter right after it hatched... but it turns out to be much more than that! It is a story about surviving, about growing up, facing fears, working together to save the others. It's a story about coping with grief, finding the meaning of life... Main characters are animals, sure, but it is not hard at all to see just about anyone underneath.

This book was wonderful. It was adventurous and carried my interest always. I loved the underlying lessons and the fab ending. Totally recommend.
