I’m a good girl. I don’t go out and party and I most definitely don’t sleep with half the student body. That’s what makes me and Ryder Winchester an unlikely duo. We should never work out, but yet I’m pulled to him like a moth to a flame. I want him, and I know he wants me. He has secrets that I know I could never understand, but so do I. We all have secrets, things we hide from others in fear of what they would think of us if they ever found out.
I’m a bastard. An asshole. Most days I couldn't give a shit what someone has to say to me. That is until I meet Kennedy Chaps. She’s different, strong, well opinionated, and completely naive to the person I am... My body, mind, and soul pull to her like no other. I could have her, but I won’t. I won’t taint her. I won't shut out her light.
We both have secrets so deep that allowing them to escape would be like losing a part of the person we are. But as friendship morphs into something much deeper I feel myself confessing my secrets; things that could very well be the end of us.
Sometimes it’s about finding the right person to tell your secrets to.
Sometimes it’s about the risk.
Sometimes two damaged souls can’t heal all wounds, sometimes love is not enough. Hearts get broken, people lose hope, and love dies.
We are Ryder Winchester and Kennedy Chaps and this is our story.
J.L. Beck is the USA Today Best Selling author of unapologetic romance. She lives in WI with her husband, two kids, and four dogs. She enjoys writing and recently starting a literary agency to help represent authors in the industry.
Bittersweet Symphony Two broken souls with tainted pasts.
Ryder Winchester had a difficult childhood, hurt by the person who should have protected him and loved him unconditional. Ryder thinks he's not worthy of the love his brother has, he sees himself as damaged and all the horrible things that were drilled into him as a kid.
Kennedy is a hardworking independent collage student who has eared everything she has on her own. She's the quiet, somewhat shy girl who keeps to herself. She tries not to draw attention to herself especially from the person who constantly bullies her, Sam.
Sam was Kennedy's best friend growing up but a string of events caused things to turn sour for their friendship. Kennedy quickly became Sam's enemy an he her worst nightmare!
While being harassed by Sam, Ryder steps in and defends her. Ryder is drawn to her in every way but he feel like Kennedy is too innocent, too good for him. He can't seem to stay away from her and he soon finds out that they both have more in common than either would like to admit, mainly their troubles past. Slowly but surly they begin to form a strong bond and Ryder shares his deepest, darkest secrets with her.
But will crazy, obsessed Sam threaten the new found relationship that Ryder and Kennedy have developed?
Will these two lost souls be able to save each other or will they watch their relationship crash and burn?
It's up to you to find out?
Crazy obsessed Sam threatens to reveal Ryder's secret if he doesn't stay away from Kennedy.
I was asked to read this ARC in exchange for a honest review. I'll start by saying this one is my favorite, every time a new novella comes out they just get better and better. Introduction of Sam, he is obsessed and it's like if her can't have Kennedy no one will. Problem is nothing ever good happens to someone so vindictive and nasty, a bully of sorts, not like Corey he was mild compared to Sam. Kennedy's scared of the ever present Sam always looking over her shoulder. In comes Ryder unlikely knighting shinning Armor but somehow the heart that seemed untouchable might be reachable. I don't want to say to much but I will say I highly recommend this entire series J.L. Beck has touched on the bully topic in a big way. Don't miss out on a brilliantly written story of hurt, pain and the unimaginable Love.
Thank you for the gift of reading these great Novella J.L. Beck keep writing your words are amazing.

The story we have been waiting for about a the mysterious and handsome Ryder.
Every Bittersweet Novella gave us a glimpse of Ryder. It showed that he was a troubled manwhore, who had a thing for Jenna and who follows where his twin brother Rex and his cousin Cory goes. We always wondered what his story was, now here it is front and center. We get to know why Ryder is the way he is and why he thinks screwing any girl he likes is ok.
I knew from reading the other books, that Ryder is so much more than meets the eyes. He is a troubled boy, who went through hell and this is his story. This is where we find out that even though he had a thing for Jenna, he loves his brother Rex very much. That he will do anything for his brother, to make sure he doesn’t break his heart..even if he pisses him off here and there.
When Mimi’s friend Kennedy came around, Ryder couldn’t help but try to get to know her. He was interested to know more about her and was really pulled in by her simplicity and innocence.
“Your innocence. You ooze it from every pore in the way you talk and the way you dress. You don’t even realize how beautiful you are.” ~Ryder
When Kennedy finally agreed to hang out with him, he found it harder and harder to not think of her when she wasn’t around. The more he got to know her, the more he wanted to be a better man for her, someone worthy of her beauty. Both have secrets they wanted to keep hidden, but with each other they couldn’t help but share who they really are. Both broken, but together they became whole.
With Kennedy’s former best friend Sam wrecks havoc with them both and both get lost in their own world. Will they figure it all out what to do with Sam and come out on top? Will they beat Sam at his own game? Or will they let Sam win, while their heart losses each other? Read and find out.
This book is not overpowered with sex, but more of the emotions and love that Kennedy and Ryder have for each other. Also a lot on the connection between the two that grows out of nowhere, but worth everything.
I enjoyed reading Ryder and Kennedy’s story. I love how Ryder was so into Kennedy, because she was simple and innocent. I cannot wait to read the last and final book of Bittersweet series. ..so JL Beck please don’t let us wait to long. <3
* * * * * 5 Stars Kennedy Chaps is a good girl. Instead of partying she is in the library studying. Kennedy has a huge problem. No matter what she does it just wont go away. Then the unlikeliest person sticks up for her. Ryder Winchester is a manwhore. He has admittedly slept with half the female population on campus. He is a man with secrets and a pain so deep he lets it control him. They both have secrets that they are afraid to tell anyone.
I have been waiting for this story to come out. I absolutely love this series. Ryder has got to be one of my favorite characters in this series. I like how he is fun yet broody. The fact that he is Rex's twin doesnt hurt either. Ryder couldnt be any more different from Rex if he tried. I love the beginning of a love/hate relationship. Those are my favorite to read. I highly recommend this book. This is exactly what it says in the title....Bittersweet. BE ON THE LOOK OUT FOR THE LAST BOOK IN THE BITTERSWEET SERIES. BITTERSWEET TRUST...
J.L. Beck has done it again. The 4th installment in the Bittersweet series is another of her roller coaster rides. You get pulled in and dragged along for the ride. There are twists and turns along the way and you finally get to meet Ryder and find out what he is all about.
Ryder is a bit darker than Rex. He is broody and full of anger from a darker childhood that he has kept hidden for years not wanting to burden anyone else with his secrets. Everything is going along until Kennedy walks into his life and turns everything upside down.
Kennedy is battling with a past that has followed her to college. She just can't seem to shake her past no matter how hard she tries. She has put up walls and tried to just keep her head down, to take whatever is dished out as best she can. Her hopes to just keep her head down and get through it unscathed may be dashed when Ryder walks up and into her life.
Warning: If you don't like language or are offended by cussing this may not be for you. It doesn't bother me so I was able to read it without problems.
Wow J.L. Beck!!! I absolutely loved this book and you answered a lot of my questions about Ryder. I also figured out he connected to Jenna and how Corey was treating her because of his abusive father. I loved how you portrayed Sam, the psychopath, as obsessed because she shot him down and only thought of him as a friend. Such a good story and the plot was great! Ryder and Kennedy's story was truly awe inspiring because they made each other stronger and better just by being together. I would recommend this to anyone who has read the Bittersweet series and even those who haven't. This book is a must read!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This series deals with a lot of hidden demons. The thing people try to hide are often the things that tear them to Peices. I hope people read this and realize that not reaching out for help will keep you in the dark. Great book.
Pretty awful that bullies get away with the stuff they do. Whether they do it to get attention because they lack love (basic) or they are just psycho...and maybe Sam is a mixture. Kennedy deals with it as best a five foot girl, pretty much alone can do. Ryder comes to rescue but who needs who??
I love Ryder. Throughout the series I was hoping he would get his own book and my wish came true.
What I didn’t know about him finally comes out in this book and man do I wanna do unspeakable, unlady like things to his father grrrrr!
Kennedy is exactly what he needed, actually they needed each other. This sweet girl had to go thru so much just because she didn’t like a douche bag ugh. They bring each other the happiness they both deserve!
Josi, keep doing what you’re doing girl! Can’t wait for Bittersweet Trust!
I THOUGHT THIS WOULD BE A GOOD STORY AND I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO RYDER'S STORY BECAUSE LET'S FACE IT, HE'S THE MORE HOTTER AND CHARMING TWIN WITH THE BAD BOY VIBES, BUT I AM DISAPPOINTED THAT THE HEROINE WASNT MATCHING UP.
OUR HERO can be a jerk, asshole and insensitive but he can also be one nice bastard it takes your breath away. With such a complex hero I expected a more exciting heroine to pair up with him. I like Ryder's intensity, and having survived child abuse by his father, he has issues he deals with...and I guess one of it is by fucking his way through college.
OUR HEROINE is too SAFE for Ryder. Yes, he may need someone soft and vulnerable to take care of, but Kennedy just seems like an annoying kind of heroine to me. She has her own set of weird issue in the form of an old friend turned enemy turn stalker and he petrifies her.
OVERALL the troupe is cliché and some times nice to read about but with this plot...and the heroine was a total wet blanket for me. Not enough spunk, spark and fire.
J.L. did it again. This fourth book in the series keeps getting better and better. I'm torn to read the next and final book in the series...Excited for whats to come and sad the story will end.
"No, I love you. I knew that if anyone could bring me out of this, it would be you. Thank you for being here for me, for holding me together when I knew I wasn't going to make it. You gave me hope when I had none." ~Ryder Winchester
Bittersweet Symphony is the fourth installment in J.L. Beck's Bittersweet series. This one is bad boy Ryder's story and let me tell you he is everything and more than I hoped he would be.
Ryder is the ultimate manwhore. He is built and beautiful. Dark messy hair, piercing green eyes, well toned body and the boy can rock a pair of jeans like nobody's business. He's also got a temper and can be a little manipulative. While twin brother Rex is sweet and perfect, Ryder is the bad boy every girl wants to tame.
Ryder's slept his way across half of Berkeley. Then he meets Mimi's friend Kennedy and Ryder starts wanting something he thought he could never have.
Kennedy Chaps is beautiful, sweet, and damaged. She's worked hard for everything she has. She had a best friend from home Sam. A best friend who turned on her when Kennedy didn't return the romantic feelings he had for her. Sam's made it his mission in life to destroy Kennedy just because she turned him down. The things he does to her are beyond horrible. Just keep in mind as you read, Sam is a despicable person.
Kennedy tries to keep Sam's abuse hidden. She's genuinely afraid of him. She's afraid he'll destroy her. Ruining Kennedy is basically what Sam has planned for her. Will Ryder figure it out and rescue Kennedy? Or is Ryder the one that needs to be rescued?
You see, Ryder's got his own secret. He's suffered horrible abuse at the hand of a person who should have never treated him badly. Years and years of abuse have made Ryder think he's not worthy of love. He sees what his brother and Jenna have. He sees what Corey and Mimi have and as much as he wants it, he truly believes love is something he was never meant to have.
Ryder tries to fight the feelings that he has for Kennedy. He believes that he's supposed to be that hit it and quit it guy. Love can only lead to more pain and that's something Ryder wants to avoid. What Ryder doesn't count on is Kennedy's invasion of his every thought and she becomes more and more important to him.
The moment Ryder tell Kennedy he wanted to try, sent me swooning. Sweet Lord that boy could get me to drop my panties with his smile and green eyes. Speaking of panty dropping, Ryder's inner bad boy make for some hot, sexy scenes. Oh, just the way he kisses Kennedy...yummmmmmm. All that pent up aggression Ryder harbors definitely serves him well in the bedroom.
Are Ryder and Kennedy going to get their happily ever after? Given Ryder's reputation and Sam's desire to ruin Kennedy, these two have a few strikes against them. So now you know what I'm going to tell you. Read Bittersweet Symphony. Actually start at the beginning and read all four of these novellas. You'll get to know everyone and their stories and that will make each one better for you. I personally can't wait for the next one!! Actually that's not true. I think the next book will conclude the series and I'm not sure if I'm ready for that.
I'm definitely giving Bittersweet Symphony a five lip smack review. I've loved Rex and Corey, but Ryder just melts me a little more than his brother and his cousin. What can I say? I do love me a bad boy turned to mush by a pretty girl.

This is by far the best book in the series. I really enjoyed Hate book 3 in the Bittersweet series but Symphony grabbed my heart from the get go. Symphony is Ryder’s story. I’ll admit that I wanted to know what his deal was from the first time we met him at Corey’s party. He would dash in and out of scene and always leaves a question in the reader’s mind. For me it is always “What’s this guy’s deal?”
I like Ryder. He is a character with many layers, some dark and some not so dark. I love peeling each one away and finding his core. Ryder is a loving brother but a little jealous too. Why does his twin seem to be favored and his brother is in the dark? Twins feel each other’s pain. Why doesn’t Rex know his brother is in pain?
When we first met him Ms. Beck indicated that he was Rex’s identical twin but Rex has blue eyes and Ryder has green eyes—not identical but apparently look very similar. So similar that he fooled Jenna a couple times, at least until she looked closer. Rex sees his brother act like a jerk and tries to calm him down but they don’t have a conversation.
Kennedy is the woman who haunts Ryder’s dreams. She is an introvert, good girl also trying to figure out where she belongs. Kennedy is an equally complex character and a good complement to Ryder. She is hiding in plain sight from an old childhood friend who wanted more. Sam (her childhood friend) stalks Kennedy and goes out of his way to hurt her both physically and mentally. Sam made the mistake of performing one of his stunts in front of Ryder.
“We’re both too damaged for love, or at least I am. I have faith, and I believe in love, but I need someone to equal me out. I think we both know that taking that step forward is more dangerous than anything. Plus I hate to admit it, but Ryder is right if I let him in, I know he could rip me to shreds. It is impossible for the unloved to know how to love.”
As the secrets in both Ryder and Kennedy’s past are revealed the reader cheers for both of them. At the same time you can’t help but wonder (like the characters) if their troubled past is too much to overcome. Ryder never felt real love in his life. Kennedy doesn’t trust that love exists for her either.
"I think we all go through parts of life like that....We all sometimes just exist but don't really live. Would you be my reason to exist, Kennedy? Would you follow me into the dark to be with me?"
Symphony is a good book. We see the different faces of abuse at the hands of a parent and at the hands of a peer bully. Abuse hurts terribly not just the physical but emotionally too.
These two go through a lot in this book and I didn’t expect many of the events. It is a very emotional journey for the reader.
My big negative for this book is that “Hate” didn’t complete Mimi and Corey’s story. In my opinion their story needed to end before Ryder’s story begins. I am not happy that I’m still waiting for Corey to be a man.
What happens when a bad boy falls for a good girl? What isn't he willing to do for her?
Ryder Winchester only has one thing one his mind...okay, maybe two things: sex and Kennedy Chaps. Ryder uses sex as a coping mechanism to keep the secrets of his past at bay. He refuses to commit to anyone, or develop any bonds with anyone, outside of his small group of family and friends, but even they don't know the deep, dark crosses he bears. Ryder is fiercely loyal and protective of the ones he cares about, but he is also extremely volatile and any little thing can set him off. No one understands him...until Kennedy.
Kennedy Chaps is the light Ryder needs to break through his darkness. She is pure, innocent, stubborn, resilient, and a breath of fresh air. Ryder can tell she's been hurt and knows she has buried secrets just like him, yet he can't help himself from being drawn to her and allowing her the power to change his life, to change him. The biggest obstacle in his path, though, is Kennedy herself. Like Ryder, Kennedy has endured the darker side of what humans are capable of; unlike Ryder, though, she has never had anyone who cares about her, to show her she is worth being protected and loved.
Can Kennedy and Ryder find it within themselves to let go of the darkness and find true light and happiness with each other? Can they learn to trust and be honest with not only themselves, but each other as well? Is there hope for two people who have been so beaten down over and over again to finally stand up for themselves, take control of their destinies, and live life the way they want?
You'll have to read to find out!
Bittersweet Symphony is an amazing book that delves into the impact abuse - physical, mental, and emotional - can have on those who live through it. It shows how young adults have difficulty overcoming those scars that have been embedding into their souls since childhood. Bittersweet Symphony truly takes you on a wild ride of emotions and actions. You don't know what will happen next nor how the characters will react, and you're left with the need to continue reading until the very end. You have to know if light will finally outshine the darkness.
As a side note, this is the fourth book in J.L. Beck's Bittersweet series. I have fallen in love with her characters and feel like I know them personally at this point. I have enjoyed watching the characters grow and evolve, just as they should, over the course of this series. If you haven't started with the first book yet, I strongly urge you give it a try. I'm sure you will love this series as much as I do!

I have been waiting to read Ryder's Story since he was first introduced in this Series. Something about him is so mysterious and he just gives off that bad boy persona so perfectly. Yet, you know that deep down he is all consuming and loving. Getting into Ryder's head was great. I loved him like I knew I would. There were so many times when you finally find out what went on in his past that you just want to hold him, and tell him everything will be okay. Ryder has never felt loved, or wanted. Never has felt like he belongs, he has always seemed to just exist when it came to life...
"I think we all go through parts of life like that....We all sometimes just exist but don't really live. Would you be my reason to exist, Kennedy? would you follow me into the dark to be with me?"
Kennedy knows that her feeling are strong for Ryder. But while she let the feelings of being scared get between them......
"Everything that you're doing right now scares me. From the way you look at me as if I'm your world to the fact that you trust me enough to tell me your secrets. Your trust, your faith in me...scares me. It scares me that we could hurt each other so badly. We could be the very things that we both need, or the very thing that pushes us off the cliff."
Ryder and Kennedy's story was so heart warming. They are both fighting through battles and together they are forced to override their past. They come together and they find a connection that brings fear to both of them. Since Ryder nor Kennedy have ever felt this way about anyone before, they push through the unknown hoping no to get let down. After reading this I am not quit sure which character from the Bittersweet Series is my favorite. At first it was Rex, but now Ryder is giving his brother a run for his money! I am looking forward to reading the last book in the Bittersweet Series and can't wait to see what is going on with Mimi and Corey! I would continue to give this Series 4 Stars!

This is the 4th book in the Bittersweet Series and I didn’t think it was possible but each book keeps getting better than the last! I loved this book!
Ever since we were introduced to Ryder in the first book, I have been dying to hear his story and I am happy to say – it totally lived up to my expectations. From the previous books in the series we knew that there was something Ryder was hiding and in Bittersweet Symphony, we finally get his side of the story! There are many dimentions to Ryder that have been hinted at throughout the first three books. We get to see them all play out in this fourth installment of the series.
We also got to learn about Kennedy. Kennedy is a bad a** on the exterior but because we are reading from her point of view, we can see she feels anything but that. It is so fun to read the story from her perspective. She will stand up to and defy her bully, Sam, but inwardly she is scared out of her mind.
Together, Ryder and Kennedy are perfect. I didn’t think we would see someone that would work with Ryder’s personality but the author did an amazing job creating Kennedy for him!
We get to see some of the characters from the other books in this one as well. I like seeing the main characters from the other stories as secondary characters in this one.
As I have mentioned in other reviews in the Bittersweet series, I love how this series is being created! There is a main group of characters and every book focuses on two of them and tells their story. We get the story told from each character’s point of view, which always adds so much more depth to the story. All the characters make an appearance in the other books at one point or another so it is definitely best to read these in order.
I highly recommend Bittersweet Symphony and the entire series. You will quickly grow attached to each of these characters and anxiously await each new book to get to know each character a little better.
Just the name sounds yummy !! I am a sick and twisted soul because Ryder has been a mystery since book 1 and an a$$ but damn if I don't love him the most !!!! I think it is because I am an adult in a stable relationship that I can let myself go all giddy over these guys that treat girls like crap !! For real I was reading this book while grocery shopping , I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN !! LOL
Ryder , a lost soul hiding some pretty damaging secrets about his homelife. Secrets his twin brother does not know about. Ryder up and left for college with his brother and their friends because he had nothing else going for him. Now he is away at college and screwing his way through girls because he has nothing better to do !! That is until he sticks up for Kennedy one day in the hall. Kennedy is a mystery to Ryder and that intrigues him and causes him to feel things he has never felt before. Kennedy has been friends with Sam forever , they were best friends until Sam wanted more and Kennedy said NO. Now Sam lives to torment Kennedy , yes very similar to Corey. Kennedy hardly ever sticks up for herself when it comes to Sam but damn she gives Ryder a run for his money !! Their friendship blossoms quickly and you can tell they have some pretty deep feelings for each other. Of course these feelings are plagued by secrets and past issues. Ryder opens up to Kennedy in ways he never has to anyone and Kennedy attempts to do the same. Sam makes their lives a living hell and when push comes to shove Ryder needs to decide if Kennedy is worth it or if his secrets need to stay hidden. I love Kennedy and Ryder together. They are sweet and electric , innocent and hot !! I enjoyed their story and cannot wait for what comes next !!
I think the basic story of this is a good one, as it deals with physical abuse towards both the male and female character. I got this book for free, however, and decided to give it a try before I bought any others, which I knew was a risk, as it's the fourth in a series. There were a few things I felt a little lost on, but overall, I was just really confused many times. The author has a good story, but she really rushed it, and a lot of things are not explained. When I say that, I'm not even talking about things from other books in the series, but things like Ryder and Kennedy supposedly going on dates and making out "since then"...and then "since then" ends up being the next day. It's just how things are worded, at times, it's like the timeline is very skewed.
Ryder and Kennedy have been eyeing each other for a little while, but Kennedy is a shy, wallflower type that is just trying to make it through college, while also dealing with a major bully. Ryder has a past that he has tried hiding his whole life, even from his brother, Rex. He feels a connection to Kennedy, however, although I never really got a sense for why they felt a connection. They find out each other's secrets, however, and then, they are not only fighting the secrets coming out, they also fight their feelings for one another. I think if the timeline is tightened up, and maybe even the story beefed up a little more, it would definitely come across more solidly.
J.L. Beck you have done it again i have fallen in love with your characters even more. I already had some feeling s for Ryder from Bittersweet #1 then through all the way books #2 and #3. But this story where we see how Ryder has become who he is is beautiful. Kennedy we already had a glimpse of in book #3 but here we see how dark her normal life is thanks to Sam. But when Ryder storms in like the knight in shining armour i fell even more for hm. What also helps is how he goes from shades of light and fun to shades of dark and brooding. A perfect book boyfriend in my opinion. Kennedy is strong, she may be the most quiet of the characters at first glance in this book series but she is strong and she is a fighter. What i love about this series of novellas is it reminds me of how being away from home and meeting new people and new experiences can shape you into a new person, and how they can be the most trying times of your life. J.L.B eck just captures this perfectly in every book and each story is different and shows a new side to all these characters lives that are intertwined together. If you really have not read any of JL.Beck's work do it now he links are below to copy and paste into your browser and i will include my reviews for the earlier parts of the series below as well. Corey and Mimi where my perfect story so far and Ryder had a part in that story but this part of the series #4 is up there with Mimi and Corey's story.
I just finished Bittersweet Symphony and I really enjoyed it. It is apart of the The Bittersweet Series so you do have to read this in order to get the full effect of the characters. If you have been following then you know Ryder is Rex's brother and we are finally getting his story. We meet Kennedy in Bittersweet Hate and you already know that she is so not his type. Ryder is rough and is known ass a man whore. Honestly he puts the whore in man whore! She is innocent and he knows that he is not good enough for her but can't help but want to try. They both have secrets and trust issues so it was interesting to see how this all played out. You just gotta read and see.
I enjoyed the story. I thought that it flowed well. Everyone was back in the story, I would have preferred more from the secondary characters but understand that this was Ryder and Kennedy's story. We are finally getting to the nitty gritty about Ryder. What makes him tick. It is what I thought so I wasn't surprised but thought it was handled in a good way. They only complaint that I have is that I wish it had been focused on something else besides violence. The whole Sam thing (friend that's an abusive ahole from Kennedy's past) wasn't for me but again I still enjoyed it.
I cannot wait for more. It will be bittersweet to say the least. Is it November yet?!!
I have been dying for this book since book one came out. This book has a lot of emotional twists in it.
Kennedy is trying her hardest to blend into the background. Figuring if she can't be seen then Sam will leave her alone. That is where she is wrong. Sam is out to get revenge on her and she doesn't understand why. But the day Ryder steps up for her she is shocked. No one has ever done that before. She knows Ryder is bad news, but she can't stay away. Two lost people finding their way to each other. She tries to walk away, but he won't let her go.
Ryder has went off the deep end. He has held his secret for years. He lost Jenna to his brother. But I don't think he really wanted Jenna. He liked the idea of her. Ryder knows he should stay away from Kennedy because he is bad news for her, but he can't. There is something about her that draws him to her. She is his ray of sunshine. Can they be the light they both need? Or will they drag each other down?
This book was an amazing fourth installment to this serial. I really loved Kennedy and Ryder. It should have been a five star read, but I felt like there were some major questions that just didn't get answered. But this is a great series and each book gets better and better!! I definitely recommend these books!!
Wow, I loved this book. After reading Bittersweet Revenge, J.L. Beck became one of the authors that I one click every time she hits publish. After reading Bittersweet Hate, I thought Bittersweet Symphony would be a continuation of Corey and Mimi's story. It not a continuation of Corey and Mimi's story, it's Ryder and Kennedy's story.
In early books we meet Ryder. I really wasn't sure what to make of Ryder in previous book. He seems to be broody and a mystery. In Bittersweet Symphony we get to see the real Ryder. We get to see what makes Ryder tick. Ryder has flavors of the day as far as women go. When he meets Kennedy thing change.
Kennedy is a nice a girl. She is opposite of the type of girl that Ryder usually go for. Ryder has some secrets but so does Kennedy. Kennedy is a strong girl and ties to keep her past from Ryder. But in the end secrets always finds a way of coming out. When you finally learn about Ryder's past, he behavior makes more scents. Ryder is really a great guy and you can't help but hope he gets a happy ending.
Bittersweet Symphony is a great read. It's a definite one click.
A copy was received for a review but that didn't matter because I had already bought my copy.
Ryder is brooding, dark, mysterious and broken in ways that no one can even fathom. His life has been hell and he tries to drown himself in liquor and girls. Kennedy is shy, quiet and broken and haunted. When Ryder sees Kennedy something in him is drawn to her like never before. When he sees her being bullied by Sam his protective instincts, instincts he didn’t know he possessed surface and it is game on. Sam is mentally disturbed though Kennedy has told him time and again to leave her alone he can’t seem to. She is his obsession. Kennedy tries her hardest to remain in the background to not attract any attention. Then Ryder comes barreling into her life. She wants to stay away from him because she knows that this beautifully broken man could break her beyond repair. We all have secrets and things we are ashamed of. When Ryder and Kennedy are close to having happiness for the first time in their lives Sam threatens that happiness. Will Sam be able to break this fragile relationship? Will Kennedy be able to save Ryder from his demons and show him that he is worthy of love? Will Ryder be able to break through Kenney’s walls and keep her in his life?
Finally we get Ryder's story- he has been ever present on each book so far in this series and has been somewhat of an enigma and boy what a story he has.
He is a broken soul and fide his solace in hard booze and girls but until he meets Kennedy, the quiet and equally broken beauty he is drawn from his own issues to help.
Once again J L Beck tackles the bullying theme head on and what is produced is a heartfelt tale of rescue and surveil of two tortured people who have a lot to deal with. I have loved having a glimpse into Ryders horrid past and seen the way in which he charges into Kennedys life and tries to sae her and possibly even himself.
Two characters with huge walls that need demolishing and pasta that no one should ever have to cope with. It has been one journey that I have hated (in the sense of the crap being thrown at the two of them) and loved as the hope for both of them grows.
And Sam.... you really need to read the book and find out his twisted mind too!
One dark and pretty mind blowing read and cannot wait for the next instalment in the Bittersweet series!
What do 2 people who have been betrayed by the people who they should have been able to trust do? They help each other.
Ryder Winchester was abused by his father. He cannot do love.
Kennedy Chaps is harassed and bullied by her one-time best friend. She is now afraid to get close to anyone.
When Ryder stands up for Kennedy one day while she is being harassed by her old friend, an unlikely friendship develops.
Kennedy and Ryder start to trust each other and their relationship begins to flourish.
Unfortunately Kennedy’s past does not want to let go and they are put through hell.
I loved this story between two broken souls who found each other and fought for each other. Both have their struggles but together they were so strong.
I enjoyed this book far better than the other books in the series. I liked Kennedy when we first met her and I was so glad to see her story. I was also excited about Ryder and let me tell you... he did not disappoint. This was a super quick read but packed a serious punch.
Kennedy is a good girl. Ryder is a bad boy with playboy ways. When he meets Kennedy, he is drawn to her but doesn't want to taint her yet he can't stay away. Both Kennedy and Ryder have trust issues and secrets. Can they really work? Will Kennedy's past destroy them? Can they get their happy ending?
Ah Ryder! He is broken and I really liked that we got to see him in a different light and to see what made him... him. I also liked Kennedy and she totally tugged at my heartstrings.
Interested to see where we go next in this series!
Kennedy was hurt. Her best friend growing up fell in love with her, but when she didn't return the feelings something in him snapped. Now she lives in fear of him. He even followed her to the same college. He hurts her when he can doesn't care that he does. Ryder has problems of his won though, with his past its hard for him to trust anyone, but there is something about the blonde hired blue eyed Kennedy that calls to him. But can two people, who are so obviously hurt and unable to trust, learn to trust one another or will they just end up destroying each other instead? I recommend this book, it is good story with a lot of sad truths about the things in our world. The author really hits on these things and sheds light on some of the darker parts of society. I couldn't really leave a long review as this is a short read and I didn't want to give the story away.
This is the 4th installment in the Bittersweet series and for those who have been anxiously waiting…. Ryder’s story. This book really is totally gut-wrenching. It dives deeper into Ryder’s past and you find that Ryder the man-whore really does have a heart. Kennedy is the girl-next-door in all appearances but has secrets of her own that she tries to keep hidden. Sam is always there, lurking and waiting for his moment to strike. If you thought that Corey Winchester was bad in previous books in this series Sam is far worse. Each time I review a new release by J.L. Beck I say it is her best but she keeps getting better and better. This book pulls at your heartstrings and you find yourself really pulling for this couple. J.L. Beck writes about real life and it is not always pretty. This is a five star read!
