When Clint "Grim" Walker, started Operation: Save Haven Davenport, the beaten, bruised girl who fell into his life, he had no idea it would turn him into an unbalanced, enraged, insecure idiot.

The mission objectives seemed simple:
Make her feel safe in his home. Fail.
Protect her from the neighborhood playboy. Fail.
Shelter her from the ex girlfriend. Fail.

Havoc was a 3.5 star read for me. As always, I won't dick with you and will cut right to the chase...

What I enjoyed...
Clint AKA Grim AKA The Grim Reaper... This man is intense and he is hot as balls with his blue eyes. He is smart and he doesn't talk much at first. He is a man of few words but when he does speak it is for good reason. He has a difficult relationship with his father over many things that have happened over the years that neither of them have really dealt with effectively. He's

Nothing like a Marine to get the blood pressure going !

Our Marine is dark and broody which just adds to his persona ♥
Clint lost his mom at a young age and the relationship he had with his father was very strained. Inevitably, he joins the marines and is well respected and dedicated to the force and his team ♥

So Clint aka Grim and his men have survived another tour and are home for a while and it's during this visit that Clint finds a woman,in his yard, barely breathing, unconscious, covered in

** JOSIE'S 3.5 STAR REVIEW **

Havoc by Xavier Neal is the story of Clint ‘Grim’ and Haven. Clint is a strong, tough and structured character. He’s a Marine who is currently at home on leave. He lives with his father, who is the sheriff of their town and runs a strict home. Everything about the father and son duo is structured to the Tee. Clint has always done things a certain way, but when he sees a battered a bruised girl in his yard, he develops this basic urge to protect her. Havoc is told

We are introduced to Clint (Grim) in the prologue, a sad back story of his mother passing, bringing to light Clint's feelings about his dad's absence growing up. And in the beginning we learn how serious and "Grim" he is, so he's aptly named. In the here and now of the book, Clint is on leave, counting down the days until his next deployment until he finds a bruised and battered Haven unconscious in his yard. His mission at that point becomes nothing other than keeping her safe. He falls for her ...more

I am a big fan of hot military heroes and, therefore, excited to read this book. Clint (nickname Grim) is a marine and he loves being a marine. His character is a mystery in that outwardly he is this strong marine but inwardly he is damaged and suffers from the death of his mother when he was very young. Clint’s father (Sir) is the local sheriff. His relationship with his son is strained because he pulled away from him after the death of his wife. Sir is also deeply damaged when his wife passed. ...more

Story told in Male's POV (I loved that) The story sucked me in from the very beginning. Clint "Grim" is a very interesting character and I liked how quiet and mysterious he was. What I didn't like was that he had 2 nicknames, the military one "Grim" then the one that everyone from his neighborhood called him, "Slugger" so in the beginning I was confused a bit, I did get it but would have preferred just the one nickname since when he meets Haven al

Clint "Grim" Walker is a hot and broody Marine. Ever since the death of his mother t the age of 10, he has kept himself emotionally cold and cut off from forming any lasting bonds with anyone. His relationship with his father since that time has also remained cold, only referring to him as Sir. Even though he is on leave, he still keeps up his daily exercise rituals, including running every morning. One day, returning from his run, Clint finds a young woman, collapsed in his front yard. Our boy Clint or 'Grim' as everyone calls him has it bad for Haven, "I won't be the reason that tear falls. Not now. Not ever. Not if I can help it." I mean the boy will do anything for her and if someone tries to stand in his way he finds his voice and stands up, "and I appreciate the concern, but I'm not leaving until she opens her eyes and I know she's all right. Period. You can lecture me if you like about everything that I need to be doing, but honestly, I'm not going anywhere until she ope ...more

Too wordy and only one perspective

I hate first person books and I really first person from one perspective only. This book was extremely wordy. Maybe it was the font I am reading in but sheesh.

The overall story: Clint only 21 or 22 years old in the book is a marine. He lives for combat but basically it's a drug to deal with upbringing and the father he doesn't consider a father. He is just living life for his next deployment. He does this until "an angel" dropped on his life. Literally. She isn'

I was first drawn to this book because the military references. Just like bikers, I have a thing for military men, especially marines. Clint, aka Grim was a true young marine in every way. Hard, cold, calculated, he was always on point. His mother and father raised him that way, since his dad was an ex-marine himself. But once his mother passed when he was just 10 years old life changed. Dad was no longer a dad, but a man that gave him orders. Sir. Thus, Grim grew tough like him and joined the m ...more

First, may I share a little experience with you?

I was eagerly nearing the end of Havoc when a glance at the clock revealed it was time to get my son off the school bus. I did so impatiently, then returned to my reading. Clint – better known as Grim- is home on deployment. At the ripe age of 21, he has clearly been through some tough times. He has devoted his life since the age of 6, when he lost his mother, to closing off the world and devoting his life to living close to death. He has a strained relationship with his father, whom he often avoids. Grim makes no room in his life for emotions. Being a marine and a damn good one at that allows him just enough cockiness and protection he thinks, he can continue to ...more

Marie's Tempting Reads ARC Review:

Havoc is one story I enjoyed to the fullest. I am a HUGE fan of a damsel in distress (Haven) and the hero or knight in shinning armor (Grim) who comes to the rescue. I know that this type of story isn't what everyone likes, but for me, I LOVED IT. Of course it might have to do with my own personal fantasies of being rescued by a sexy hero. What woman could deny a sexy hero coming to the aid of a woman in need? Definitely not this girl! *Wink*

Not as good as Logan Motherfucking Keller, but it was a pretty good story. I love Xavier's writing style , so she basically can't do no wrong in my eyes. Took me a while to warm up to Clint. No wonder he was The Grim Reaper. Even reading his thoughts I got this cold emotionless feeling, but it all changes when he meets Haven. Havoc is about one hot Marine! Clint isn't like the other guys his age, he seemed more serious and focused. When he finds Haven it's instant for him... he must protect her at all costs. She makes him feel things he's taught himself to no longer feel. She's as wounded as he is. This book has heat but it's not a wham bam kind, it's slow and that helps with you really liking them.

This book, I liked very much. I liked how sweet, possessive, and protective Grim was. He seemed like a douche, hardened, unfeeling at the beginning. But as soon as he laid eyes on Haven, he was awesome. I totally understood why Grim was unemotional. His mother died, and left him with his father who seemed just as unemotional as Grim. This book was sweet for the moat part. How Grim's behavior did a complete 180. How he was unfeeling before, and after Haven he felt almost too much. His re

I am sitting here wondering about all of these 5 star reviews. I thought the book was extremely clipped, choppy and cold. Insta-love where it made no sense and nothing was really explained. I felt nothing about or for these 2 characters and thought they were poorly developed as was the story itself. Maybe it was the style of writing, I don't know, but this was not a 5 star read for me.
