Hailed by Lefty Kreh as the best fly-tying book of the past few years and by "Field & Stream" as "a bible of invaluable secrets," this revised third edition of a fly-tying classic is a great resource for both beginner and expert tiers.Learn to tie effective, durable flies as efficiently as possibleTips on materials for tailing, ribbing, bodies, wings, hackling, and moreAdvice on tools and setting up a workshop
I have been tying flies for over 15 years, and I learned many new things from this book. The most important thing is the attitude. Tie the flies the way that makes the most sense regardless of the original pattern. This is why A.K. could produce so many flies as a commercial tier. A lot of good shortcuts here to make your flies consistent and fishable. Easily readable.
With well over 10,000 hours of fly tying under his belt, professional tyer A.K. Best is fully qualified to write a book on the subject and this one did not disappoint! I learned a lot by reading it cover to cover but there is so much highly detailed information that it would be impossible to completely grasp everything in a single read. As an intermediate-level tier, a lot of what he had to say kind of went over my head but I'm sure some day I'll come to appreciate his very particular and detailed descriptions. I consider this book to be an invaluable benchside reference and I guarantee I'll be referring to it frequently in the months and years to come.
