Emma and Vivian finally find their brother, whom they were separated from at birth. But tragedy strikes the family once more as they discover he is a U.S. Marine in the Middle East who has been taken hostage by terrorists. They beg Sara, a former killing machine for the secret DCIA, to help him and she agrees, but in the only way she knows how: she's going to do it all herself. But Sara's carefully laid plans are laid to waste as she finds it is impossible to carry out this mission by herself.

Can Sara save the hostages and get them out of the desert, even though one of the hostages is keeping something from her? Can JT and Dani nurture their fledgling love long enough to find a life outside of the Sinai desert? And when the rescue helicopter goes down with Hawk on it, who will save him?

Reread number one‑million because this series owns me, body and soul, and Lisa Ladew’s writing continues to be pure, unfiltered chef’s kiss.

Five stars. Infinite stars. I would give this series the moon if Goodreads would let me. And yes, I will reread it again, because this series is my comfort chaos and I’m not even sorry.

Every time I come back to Edge of the Heat #6, it hits like the first time — except somehow more, because I already know the emotional carnage that’s coming and I still run straight into it like a happy little masochist. This book is the definition of addictive romantic‑suspense chaos, and I swear Ladew sprinkles something illegal into her prose because I cannot stop rereading this series.

This installment goes full throttle from the jump. Emma and Vivian finally find their long‑lost brother, and instead of a sweet reunion, they get the emotional equivalent of a punch to the throat: he’s a Marine being held hostage in the Middle East. Because of course he is. This family has the worst luck in fiction and I love them for it.

And then there’s Sara — my queen of competence, my murder‑angel, my “fine, I’ll save everyone myself” icon. She agrees to help, but in the most Sara way possible: solo mission, zero backup, maximum danger. Except the universe laughs in her face, her plan blows up, and suddenly she’s knee‑deep in a rescue op that even she can’t brute‑force alone. Watching her try to carry the world on her shoulders while the world keeps throwing bricks at her? Peak Sara. Peak drama. Peak perfection.

Meanwhile JT and Dani are over there trying to build a relationship in the middle of a desert war zone like it’s not the worst possible environment for romance. And then — because Ladew loves to emotionally torment us — the rescue helicopter goes down with Hawk on it. I swear this book had me clutching my chest like a Victorian widow.

The whole thing is just… everything. High stakes, found family, danger, devotion, heartbreak, heat, and that signature Ladew emotional punch that leaves you staring at the wall afterward like you’ve been personally victimized by fictional characters. The pacing is tight, the tension is relentless, and the characters feel so real you want to reach into the book and drag them all to safety yourself.

With the way that book 5 ended I was really intrigued to see how the next book would carry on, the fact that Emma and Vivian’s triplet brother had been caught hostage hurts them both pretty badly. However I wasn’t not expecting the events that happened throughout this book to happen, it’s shocking to see what their brother JT and Dani go through because you wouldn’t expect to be taken hostage. However when I saw that Sara was going to go in and rescue them my heart skipped a few beats because it’s not every day you see a women get sent on a survival mission on her own to rescue two people. Honestly JT, Dani and Sara go through quite a bit and the events will completely shock you. If I could honestly explain what happens then I would, however Lisa Ladew has such a way to draw her readers in and she nailed that perfectly with this book. Honestly go pick up this series as honestly it’s pretty damn awesome.

JT is Emma & Vivian brother. He was adopted and never knew of his twin sisters. His mother is dying and JT is rushing to her side to say goodbye. His mother confuses that he is a triplet and has 2 sisters out there in the world somewhere but she is unaware of where they ended up.

JT can't think about that right now because his best friend has been badly injured. JT's next stop is to visit his friend before returning to the Marine base. When JT arrives he is told that his friend has died. Now JT is on a mission to put away the man responsible for his friends death. Before he died they spoke about it and JT knows that Kevin Clarkson is responsible for his death and the death of other good soldiers under his command.

JT heads to Kuwait. He is investigating the shady activity of Kevin Clarkson. JT wants answers.

Dani Clarkson is going to Kuwait to confront her Uncle Kevin. He's been acting really strange and her family thinks there is something bad going on with Kevin's activities.

When Dani and JT end up at the same cafe they are taken hostage and they are to be executed. Emma and Vivian have found their brother with the help of their hacker friend. And when they find out that he was just taken hostage in Kuwait they ask Sara for a huge favor, SAVE HIM.

Sara is sent in as a solo extraction team. She alone will have to rescue JT and Dani.

Out of fear, desperation for survival and trust blooms a beautiful friendship and love between JT & Dani. But they still must overcome their mistrust of each other once back in the real world to make a go of it.

I love this series. The intrigue, sexy heat and awesome characters makes it a great reading. There is so many feelings and situations that you will read, makes you feel a part of the family (good and difficult). I couldn't put it down once I started reading. I love how the story line keeps older stories and characters coming back. It's like having mini novellas all rolled into one, along with a full length novel. I really like to read about people in uniform, doesn't matter which ones. Now the wait for #7. Hopefully it won't be too long of a wait. Keep them coming Lisa. Thank you for being such a great writer.

The couple: JT and Dani

Romance trope: romantic suspense
Series: Edge of the Heat
Length: 224 pages

Plot: JT has just discovered two shocking truths: he has two sisters he never knew about and his whole squad was killed by a corrupt military commander. He's not sure what to do about either of those things, but it doesn't matter anymore because when he arrives at a coffee shop in Kuwait to meet with the commander, he and the lovely reporter who is also there are kidnapped by insurgents. He doesn't know it, but she has a tie to the commander as well. JT and Dani start to grow closer because of their captivity, but what happens when all the secrets come out?

Commentary: I think that Sara should have pressed just a little harder when Dani said she wasn't related - it was obvious she was lying! But JT did good in making his apology so public. That was a real grovel. And I couldn't even blame him for his mistake in the first place, honestly!

Edge of the Heat 6

By: Lisa Ladew
Narrated by: Anya West
Series: Edge of the Heat, Book 6
Length: 8 hrs and 26 mins

I listened to this book at 1.50x
I did have a problem with the big deep breath taken before every sentence. It would have been nice if it was edited out. Very distracting .

Each book gets better

Surprisingly good. Couldn't put down. Very much going on. Firefighting, FBI involved, crooked cops. EMT. doctors, politics, middle east. hostage by terrorists.

Looking forward to book 6.5

Vocal artist Anya West did a really good job being it to life. But I had to listen to it at 1.40x or 1.50x to make it more exciting.

0 star. It is actually insulting how poor the writing and story is. Hard to believe someone would actually sit down and get excited to write this slop.

Almost done with the series and I will be sorry to see it end. I've really enjoyed this author's writing and will be looking for more of her books in the future. This series is well done, interestingly plotted with great characters.

Torn between a two and a three. What?! The beginning is confusing who is this woman- you start to think she'll be a love interest to the brother- and then nope, just a nurse....

Then the corruption that is so open yet so ignored by others?! I don't know. Either way- I still like Sara and Love the real connections between the two MC especially near the end of the book.

Besides the highly unlikely scenario of his sisters (and their husbands) being half way across the world and at the hospital when he arrives, from personal experience I can tell you that meeting an unknown sibling is actually pretty much exactly like that. Just jumping into a sibling relationship even though we had never met. Crazy but pretty accurate.

Edge of the Heat 6

Emma and Vivian's brother, JT, discovers that he has 2 sisters after reading a letter his dying mother left him.

JT also learns that the men in his unit have been killed. Once he starts pursuing information trying to find out what happened to his men, he and a reporter, Dani, are kidnapped.

After they are rescued JT discovers that Dani has been holding back on some information and that puts a halt to their relationship.

JT later learns that he has made some erroneous assumptions about Dani and has to figure out how to fix things between them.

Looking forward to the new series about Jerry's sister.

Book Six in the series

Finding out he's a triplet and adopted was tough on JT, but he was a Marine and would handle it.

Dani goes on assignment to see what's going on with her Uncle Kevin who is in the Marines but suddenly throwing money around like he's won a big lottery. Her father is going crazy with worry that he will besmirch their family.

Terrorists in the Middle East - and JT and Dani abducted and about to be murdered on television.

Sara is brought in by the FBI (her friends) to find a way to set them free. She's good at what she does.

Romance and danger and family reunions...great book!

Good read

I've read the entire series and this couple is my favorite. The real life experience and the not so easily happy ending of this book is one of the best that I've read. Most time authors rush through to the happy ending and leave so much of the ending out that it leaves you wondering how it got to the happily ever after, no so with this series. Well written without the boring explanation of how the characters are feeling. Excellent series.

Beautiful Ending!!!

What a beautiful way to end the marvelous Edge of the Heat series.....Loved every second of reading this phenomenal novel. From the moment Emma called Sara asking for her help in rescuing her and Vivian's long lost brother JT to Sara's daring rescue to Dani and JT growing attraction to each other to the triplets Emma, Vivian and JT's reunion.....Everything about this book is captivating. Another strong book in this series! We get to see all of the characters that we've come to know and love and we get to meet JT, who is Emma and Vivian's brother. JT and Dani are kidnapped by terrorists. Sara goes in to save them. Once again, love blossoms under chaos. JT is a strong character. I loved him. Dani is reeling from the news that her uncle is a terrorist, but finds strength and love from JT. This was another action packed story. Loved it.

With each entry into the series, the books have gotten better. This latest entry grabbed my attention from the first page and just didn't let go until the end. Great suspense, endearing characters and a sweet romance, what more could you ask for? Keep up the great work and I look forward to reading your next book.

I want very happy with this one. There were some funny parts, but I was more angry and irritated. It felt like it dragged on and on. A little too much detail was given. Also, I have a very hard time believing the "love scene" in the middle of the desert after just being rescued from terrorists and about to be executed on live TV.
All in all, the whole story seemed forced.

Another fantastic read. I love the suspense and the love in this story. Both Dani and JT have complex characters and intense back stories that motivate them to behave the way they do. It is a great story of scary moments and sweet love. It had betrayal and shocking moments to keep readers intrigued with twists and turns. There were some predictable moments but even those had some twists.

I listened to this on audiobook and the narration was not the best. The story really was not my idea of entertainment. In all fairness though, I am not a romance fan and all the romance in this didn't work for me. I found the rest of the story to be predictable and not very well researched. I can be fussy with facts though. As far as the writing style and quality, it wasn't too bad.

Lisa you did not disappoint. I had been wondering how you would bring Emma, Vivian, & JT together, and the storyline was exciting.
There were a few places that I feel dragged just a little....but I could not put this book down. Looking forward to the next release!
