Are you struggling with chronic pain? You’re not an estimated one billion of us across the globe suffer chronic pain every day. And what Dr. Mitchell Yass has found over his 20-year career is that many of us suffer needlessly. While the current medical model for treating pain isn’t helping, there is hope. The Pain Cure Rx presents an alternative model of treatment—the Yass Method—that can resolve pain quickly and effectively without surgery or medication. In the medical community today, most chronic pain is attributed to a structural problem, such as a herniated disc, a meniscal tear, or arthritis. But Dr. Yass has found that in about 90 percent of cases, the cause is actually a muscular weakness or imbalance—a condition that’s easy to treat on your own. The Yass Method, developed through his work with more than 14,000 patients, focuses on finding the true source of the pain and then using simple exercises to find lifelong relief. Dr. Yass looks at the most common areas where people experience pain; lays out simple tests that examine things like range of motion, walking patterns, and posture; and teaches you to use this information, rather than invalid diagnostic tests, to determine whether your pain is muscular or structural. If it is structural, you can choose surgery, knowing that the outcome will likely be good. But if the pain is muscular, you can use the easy, step-by-step exercises and routines Dr. Yass offers to get the pain resolution you’re searching for. Many of the people Dr. Yass has treated came to him as a last resort before surgery or as a follow-up after surgery that didn’t resolve their pain. Many of them had been told that they would have to manage their pain with drugs for the rest of their lives, or, worse, that there was nothing left to try; they would simply have to live with the pain. This revolutionary book shows that, in most cases, this simply isn’t true—and empowers you to create a pain-free life.
Very interesting and informative book about different areas of the body and where pain actually originates. Not to just believe the first thing we are told, based on MRI's or scans but actually get different opinions. Learn to strengthen surrounding areas and muscles and just learn to be tour own best advocate. We are overly medicated world, it is easier to take a pill than do the physical work necessary to live without pills or pain.
Learned alot and appreciated all the diagrams and the format of the book that takes it area by area within the body.
This book is good for normally healthy individuals with pain occurring in select portions of their body. For people with certain conditions or injuries these exercises could actually cause quite a bit of problems. Ask your doctor before starting to be on the safe side.
All the exercises prescribed for my problem areas would set me back months in the healing process.
My first question is: WHERE HAS THIS BOOK BEEN MOST OF MY LIFE??
If only I could've read something even close to this years ago, I doubt I'd be where I am now!! I've gone to pain specialists & all they want to do is push drugs---HEAVY drugs, addictive drugs!! Or some will offer injections of steroids which also have the potential to ruin the body!! I've refused the drugs as I figured they're just masking what my body is trying to tell me. I've gone for physical therapy, and although somewhat more in the right path, I must not have had either the correct exercises or either not enough of them
Dr Yass has treated over 14,000 patients who have either gone through surgery but still have pain, or came to him as a last resort BEFORE having surgery. In all his cases he was able to cure them without medication or surgery. It's usually a muscular problem. If structural, he then suggests you most likely need surgery
He begins by explaining the difference between structural & muscular & what pain is. Most people think it's the nerves causing the feeling when in fact it's the connective tissue which surrounds most everything in our bodies
The majority of the book then divides into the different areas most people experience pain and what diagnoses & exercises to do that might help. It's a great book to have for when a certain area of your body is treating you with hurt, open up to the chapter that pertains to that area
This book is REMARKABLE!! It's full of information & knowledge in which most of us need to be re-programmed about our pain!! I can't state enough how happy I am to have gotten a copy of this book as it will ALWAYS be readily available on my kindle to use when pain flares up!!
I got my wonderful digital copy through NetGalley & am forever now going to be reading & using this valuable drug-free information Also many thanks to Hay House publishers for allowing me to preview this book early!
Having had much more than my share of various aches and pains over the years from too much running, tennis and golf (not to mention poor posture), I am always on the lookout for information dealing with how to diagnose and treat physical pain in the body. I came across The Pain Cure RX: The Yass Method for Diagnosing and Resolving Chronic Pain" by Dr. Mitchell Yass. I found the book to be quite interesting and even revolutionary in certain aspects of identifying and treating chronic pain. His explanations of what causes various pain in specific body parts was clear and concise, albeit probably controversial in some medical circles. His recommendations for testing and dealing with the pain run the gamut from traditional stretches to massage and muscle strengthening activities. Those orthopedic surgeons out there probably will find his solutions too simplistic, but I came away even more convinced that surgery should be only a last resort solution. This book is a good read if you are really serious about treating and preventing pain, especially as we age.
