What the crap did I just read? That may be the worst thing I've ever read in my life, certainly the worst graphic novel by far. Look, I'm a pre-Trib Rapture believing Christian, but I don't even understand what that was. Apparently, it's based off of a horrible movie that I never saw - I'm guessing now for very good reason. The publisher is supposed to be a Christian publisher and maybe their idea was to get people scared enough that they'll convert before the Rapture, assuming it happens in our lifetime, but they did it at the expense of actual biblical prophecy.

Paul says that we will be taken bodily up to heaven and meet with those who have died before in the air with Jesus. Bodily! (1 Thess. 4:17) Which means we're not going to leave ugly corpses littered all over the place. Nor will demons be snatching up people after they've made the decision to convert (Rev. 9:3-4), which will thereby kill every new convert on the planet long before an anti-christ and false prophet come along to persecute these new Christians (Dan. 7:25). That doesn't make sense at all!

Ugh, I'm seriously disgusted with what was apparently a poor attempt to get horror movie watchers into the Bible. Also, all three of your male characters looked exactly alike. Try drawing someone who doesn't have spiky brown hair next time, okay? Either stay true to the Word of God or get out of the movie/graphic novel business.

(I read this graphic novel via Hoopla Digital)

The Remaining is an adaptation of the Sony Pictures film of the same name. Film and comics are visual mediums, but often the storytelling demands are quite different.

This adaptation finds great moments of suspense for the graphic novel form, often building to cliffhangers followed by full-page shocks that maximize the story's eerie impact on the page. It's not just the film's script put on paper.

It's a subtle and frightening exploration of a contemporary world slowly realizing events from the Book of Revelation. As the small group of characters traverse the grim landscape, we're offered a fresh interpretation of what familiar biblical accounts might be like. Everything unfolds through the eyes of a small group of young people.

Artwork is beautifully rendered in this volume.

This is an entertaining spin on familiar (for some) biblical territory, but it's easily enjoyed by mainstream audiences. Very well put together.
