If you are a fan of The Keatyn Chronicles, you will love reconnecting with your favorite characters as adults. In reality TV form, this series follows the lives and loves of those who work at Captive Films. Hot, successful, playboy Riley Johnson, whose business success far exceeds his success in love. Movie star, Keatyn Douglas, whose epic love story has spawned a series of books and movies. And Dawson Johnson, who joins Captive with a tragic past. Expect lots of drama, sex, and tabloid-worthy events.
Released in serial format much like a TV series, the first season contains 6 episodes. If you prefer to read it all at once, all episodes are available as Captive Films: Season One.
Season 1 Episode 1 This series is meant for readers 18+.
Jillian Dodd is a USA Today bestselling mother-daughter duo made up of Jill and Kenzie — two writers, one pen name, and a shared love for fun, binge-worthy YA romance.
With over fifty books and millions of happy readers, their stories range from small-town love in That Boy to glamorous adventures and swoony YA boarding school dramas in The Keatyn Chronicles, London Prep, Spy Girl, and beyond.
Jill lives in sunny Florida with her husband, while Kenzie lives in Scotland with her husband and family. When they’re not writing across time zones, you’ll find them planning their next adventure or dreaming up lovable stories readers can’t put down.
What is better than seeing your most loved characters from one of your favorite YA series all grown up? Riley Johnson. That’s my boy. He has been my favorite guy from The Keatyn Chronicles since the first book. I loved Riley in the KC books... but grown up Riley? Holy hotness. He is really something else!
I loved getting the glimpses into K&A’s life, and look forward to getting more of the other characters. I’m anxious to see where Ariela’s part will come into play. The very best part of this was getting more Riley. I can’t get enough! This is NOT a YA book. It’s steamy, sexy and loads of fun! Looking forward to Episode 2 out next week!!!
”You chose the wrong path back then, you need to fix it or your world will never be in balance.”
This is the first installment in a weekly serial series in which the author will write as long as the fans want more. This book was extremely short, my Kindle said it was a twenty minute read but it did it's job in making me interested in more.
It was a lot of fun catching up with the crew from The Keatyn Chronicles. They are grown up and approaching the big 3-0. The story centers around Riley who is a playboy who doesn't do relationships ever since the break up with Ariela all those years ago. We also get Keatyn’s pov along with Ariela’s who has been unhappily married for the past six years.
“How did my life come to this? The sad thing is, I know the answer. Because I let it.”
Jillian Dodd gave just enough story line to have me interested in seeing what happens next for Riley and Ariela. I must mention that grown up Riley appears to have all sorts of bedroom skills which should make the rest of series very hot and steamy.
This is a spinoff of the Keatyn Chronicles series. During the series we met Keatyn and all her friends. We watched Keatyn experience high school, develop friendships, and find love. Keaton’s family is Hollywood Royalty, so it was fitting for Keatyn to go into acting. Circumstances led to Keatyn owning a film company when she was only 17 years old. Now that company is run by her long time best friend Riley Johnson.
I was already a fan of Riley and always wanted his own story. Jillian did one better and will be releasing a serial every week as episodes. This first episode is really a catch up for those who didn’t read the KC series. We also get to see where things are with Riley’s one and only love Ariela.
I am so excited to have this series and can’t wait to see what comes next.
This series can be read without reading the Keatyn Chronicles first.
Lastly a shout to the God of All Hotties and Keatyn…I freaking love this!
“You and I are like a promise. A wish. Proof that fate and luck bring people together. Proof of love at first sight. Proof that true love will survive.”
This book is Rated ‘ G’ for Good! Genre: Adult Romance
“I run Captive Films. Where we leave you begging for more. Or, maybe that’s just me. My life is perfect. No relationships. No distractions. I’m all business. Even with the girls I date. And by date I mean fuck.”
This was a Fun, fast paced quick read. Captive Film episode 1 centers around Riley a very popular character from The Keatyn Chronicles. Now you see the teenage Riley I knew was sweet, loyal and HOT! The grown up Riley is ten times HOTTER, very much still loyal and a true playboy. The guy never keeps the same chick around for more than twenty-four hours. He is the CEO of Captive Films, filthy rich and wants for nothing.
Ariela is Riley’s ex-girlfriend from high school. It becomes very apparent in the span of two sentences that she is not happy with the state of her life at the moment. One look at Riley on the cover of magazine is enough to make her want something she has not truly had in years…Happiness.
These are just as captivating as the Chronicles. I can't wait for episode two.
BTW
So I went to preoder the rest of the episodes that are out, so I could wake up and have my episode ready. I notice that the price went from .99 for the first two too 2.99 for the next... Now 1) I hope this is a typo or 2) that the episodes become longer.
My goal for 2018 is to clear up my Kindle with some of the books that have been sitting there for years. I had quite a few of Jillian Dodd's and decided to have a go of her Serial series "Captive Films" starting with Episode #1.1. I haven't read any of Jillian Dodd's books, but it seems that Captive Films tells the story of the characters from The Keaytn Chronicles - Ten years later. I gathered from the first episode that when Keatyn was in college, she was kidnapped and stalked. All her friends suffered an ordeal, but it turned out all HEA in the end. Captive Films is the movie production company that Keatyn Douglas and Riley Johnson own. One of their first movies was the Keatyn Chronicles which talked about what they went through that year. Keatyn is now engaged to Aiden - her Moon Kiss and True Love. Riley, on the other hand, is still crushed by the girl who rejected him - Ariela and is floating from one bimbo to another. His current fling is Shelby who has been accompanying him to events. Has he finally chosen someone to settle or is it only a matter of time, then he is onto his next girl? Captive Films 1.1 sets the scene for the rest of the serial. If you are on the lookout for a quick read, then Serials like Captive Films are the books for you.
Adding a review after finishing the whole first Season.
It starts out good, but then goes down as the 'season' progresses (IMHO)
The first problem being the serial format
I think that, in and of itself, is what makes the whole concept so choppy. In a short amount of time, the author has to try to develop all this drama, and leave a cliffy before the next installment, whether one is needed at that point in the story or not. Because of the serial concept, you never get any space to just land and get a little more back story or feelings. Everything has to happen too fast so it can be encapsulated into that particular episode. I think it really limits the story and its ability to really get you invested in the characters.
I'd rather read more real story than be rolled all over the place the way it has to be to follow the serial format.
The story also doesn't focus just on Riley. It jumps around with all these story lines, that each deserve our full attention, going on simultaneously. I'd rather just read Riley's story in one or two books - Get the HEA of Keathyn and Aiden in another one or two books - Get Vanessa and Dawson's story in another one or two books and let each story be fully developed with Cameo's and teases of the other characters, instead of bits and pieces rushed and crammed into the little capsules called 'episodes'.
I just feel like a whole lot happened, but I missed it all.
I am really excited to see where Jillian takes this spin-off. Keatyn Chronicles....the adult version. This is not a YA book. Everyone is all grown up.....
For those that are a Keatyn Chronicles addict - you will LOVE a few surprises that Jillian has put in there for you. As this is a serial series, it is a VERY quick read - but I think you will get hooked - and luckily for you the other episodes are already releasing so you don't have to wait!
Total Nostalgia!! I loved Riley in the Keatyn Chronicles. Finally we get more of him!! It was fun to see Aiden and Keatyn. So sweet! Love love love Riley and want him to be happy. Our poor Riley got crushed, so now he is keeping it casual with his sexual partners. We get a glimpse into Ariela's life and its not pretty! Clearly she made a terrible decision. Her family put too much pressure on her to marry for power and status and it's heartbreaking to witness. Cannot wait for the next book.
5 Riley and The God of all Hotties are in another book stars! This is a serial, but somehow having a previous relationship with these characters makes this easy to read and love. I only have a week to wait for the next one and the my love for this series is enough to keep me invested. If you loved Keatyn, you HAVE to read this series. If you have not read the Keatyn chronicles, DO NOT start with this series, stop and go read them in order now. Can't wait for more!
As always loved it!!! I fell in love with these characters a while ago and it's exciting to find out what is happening after the ending of TKC. I feel sad about what happened to Ariela, waiting to see what happens with that. Definitely gonna be seeing what happens each time a book is release!!
This is a review of ALL of the episodes in the first season of Captive Films.
I have to be honest and say that I really dislike serials in this shape. The story was at times too fast paced, and too short (it ended before it began) and unfortunately I think it took something away from the story.
The first three books is used to introducing all the characters. There´s a lot of them, so it was nice to not have them all thrown in your face in the first scene. I might have given up then on remembering them.
The story is written like "a tv show". You get multiple POV´s. The Captive Films series is a NA spinoff from a mature YA series named The Keatyn Chronicles. If you have already read that series know that it will be much more steamier. The characters is adults now. (late 20´s)
If you don´t know The Keatyn Chronicles, here is a overview of the main characters in Captive Films. Keatyn - successful actress, and co-owner of the movie company Captive Films
Riley - very successful director, and co-owner of Captive Films. A play boy
Ariela - Ex-girlfriend to Riley. There´s some backstory here that will makes things difficult for Riley.
Vanessa - friends with Keatyn, and new employed at Captive Films. A girl with legs in her nose
Dawson - Big brother to Riley, coming to Captive Films after have had some hard years. Why they were hard you have to read ;)
^^these characters are the ones you will get a POV from, but the story is filled with lots of other exciting characters.
While I was very excited about the Riley/Ariela storyline, I was having trouble with connecting with the Vanessa/Dawson storyline. I wanted often to pass forward their scenes to get to the ones with Riley and Ariela. I think I felt this way, because I felt that there are some questions I haven´t had answered, and because of that I´m kind of disliking the way they speak of Dawson´s "baggage". I hope it´s because this is only first season and my answers will come later.
I was debating with myself whatever I should rate it 3 or 4 stars. I know why I want to give it 3 stars, and that´s because the story always ended before it began. Teasing is not the word. Torture more like it, and that´s why it´s getting 4 stars. Because even though I wanted to throw my kindle against the wall, and threatened to quit all together (my heart can only take so much lol) I was always desperate to get the next part.
I am not a fan of serials, but I really enjoyed this one! I was a little skeptical at first, but it didn’t take long to hook me. It’s set up like a television series (season 1 has 6 episodes). It tells the story of many of the characters we met and fell in love with in the Keatyn Chronicles, but season 1 mainly centers around Riley. I loved him in the Keatyn Chronicles, but I really love him now that he’s of age lol.
All of the characters in the story added new depth and layers. It really kept it fun and interesting, and full of the drama we expect when we think of Keatyn & company.
I read all the episodes together, but I can imagine the anticipation was pretty exciting to those who read them as they were released.
They were fun, and what started as, “I will just read one or two episodes and go to bed” ended a couple hours later with season 1 completed.
As with tv series, Jillian has stated this serial will get new seasons based on sales. Please buy this! I NEED A SEASON 2! With that said, she doesn’t leave us with any major cliffhangers or anything… just desperately wanting to live in this world a little longer.
*For those who haven’t read the Keatyn Chronicles, there are slight spoilers in this series because you will know who ended up together (not that I ever questioned it when reading the series). I’m speaking with a biased point of view b/c I have read the Keatyn Chronicles, but I think you can enjoy these without reading the previous series. When a character was introduced we were given a little background of who they were. *
Season One, the first entire book in the Captive Films series, was fantastic. This series follows the Keatyn Chronicles with a lot of the same characters, just quite a few years later. They run Captive Films. They are extremely successful. They are extremely hot. You can buy these by the season (there are six), or if you're smart (which I hope you are) you'll just buy the entire first season and read it like a novel. There is a whole lot of drama, but not like what was in the Keatyn Chronicles. It's not anxiety attack city, it's "Hey, we're older now, still partying, but we have jobs and sex and stuff." These are definitely more new adult than young adult, but still have the magical feel of the previous series. This series is well worth the five it's getting. There are so many stories in this novel surrounding the characters, and while it could get confusing if you hadn't read the Keatyn Chronicles (you need to), the different lives these stories follow are done wonderfully well. So many sad and surprising things happened in the years that have passed, and the author does a great job of giving you an overview, while leaving a lot of stuff out at the same time. This basically means that I'm dying for the next book to come out (DYING!!!!)!!!! You don't get any answers about Riley and Ariela, or Dawson and Vanessa, or Knox and Jennifer, but you do see a surprising marriage between Annie and someone I won't mention, and a love affair that lasted between two other characters I won't mention either. March can't come soon enough for the start of the next "season" and you can currently only pre-order it on iBooks (which didn't stop me from pre-ordering it, so I suggest you get on that).
This is a great start to a series, but I realized, as I was reading the book, that this series is a spin-off/continuation, of a series called, the Keatyn Chronicles, but now all the characters are grown up and it tells the story of a character named Riley, who sounds awesome!
Although I heard they can be read out of order and you don't need to read the Keatyn Chronicles first to understand what's happening, I think I'm going to hold off reading these books until I've read the Keatyn Chronicles because there are slight spoilers for people who haven't and want to read the previous series.
This was a great book! Definitely keeps you in suspense and makes you want to get the next book, like, yesterday! I think everyone would like this book and if you don't want to read the Keatyn Chronicles, you won't have any problems understanding what's happening in these books.
I can tell this is going to be a hot series. I'm not a fan of serials, but it's my favorite characters and one of my favorite authors so of course I'm going to read it.The story is written like "a tv show". You get multiple POV´s. The Captive Films series is a spin-off from a series called The Keatyn Chronicles. If you haven't already read that series, the characters were teenagers and now are adults. Episode 1 in this book is a recap of the characters so if you haven't read the other series, you won't get confused about who is who. Episode 2 gets more in depth with whats going on in everyone's lives. Riley and Ariel come in contact after 10 years of not being together. I loved the reaction Riley had when he saw her again. I liked hearing what everyone has been up to for the past 10 years and I was especially shocked about a certain someone's life. Can't wait to read the next 2 episodes.
As with Keatyn Chronicles ... Jillian sucked me right in from the first page!!
This book moves us out of the YA into adult and it does that perfectly!! All the characters we love all grown up!!! I can't wait for the next episode!!!
I am a huge serial fan especially if I don't have to wait forever for the next installment and with Jillian releasing them every week it's like your favorite TV show you get to look forward to every week!!
“You and I are like a promise,” “A wish. Proof that fate and luck bring people together. Proof of love at first sight. Proof that true love will survive. I promise you a life that’s better than anything you’ve ever scripted. So, what do you say, Boots? Wanna get hitched?"
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I was unsure about this spin-off but after having loved the Keatyn Chronicles I suppose it was inevitable that the pull of my curiosity would win out as I needed to know what happened to this lovable gang once they'd grown up. I certainly wasn't disappointed and once I'd read episode 1, series 1 I was hooked and read the rest non-stop. Not only do we get more from Keatyn, Aiden and Riley but THANK YOU VERY MUCH Dawson is back, and oh so sweet. Now I just need to have Cam make an appearance and I will be one happy bunny!
This series is like coming home from a long holiday. It welcomes you back to the comfort that you know and love. There isn't any angst, it's just a simply and enjoyable read and one that is totally recommended.
Grown up Riley is everything you expect--seriously sexy and irresistibly naughty. And some of our other favorites from The Keatyn Chronicles make an appearance as well! Jillian did a fantastic job of transitioning out favorite characters from YA to Adult without changing the reasons we fell in love with them in the first place. I've never read a serial before but love how this book was something I could read from start to finish in a shorter time frame and it still delivered everything I'd hoped it would. I can't wait to get my hands on the rest of these books! I love this author, she never disappoints!!
3.5 for me. Serials are new for me but I love Jillian and her writing so I'm willing to give them a try. I'm intrigued by the storyline and would like to see where it's all heading. I love Riley and would like to see his love story develop each week and of course see my fav Kc characters be revisited. As for "steamy" older version I guess it's okay. I actually felt more emotion in the sexy scenes in KC than I did in episode one, of course my opinion may change as we get more into the season. The first episode was a very short read for me and was a lot of the epilogue of Get Me, but it sets up for the rest of the season. Bring on next Tuesday I want to know what will happen next.
The Captive Films series is written to read like a TV show with episodes comprising a season. It picks up 10 years after the Keatyn Chronicles ended.
This review is for the first season (1.1 - 1.6).
I have to say the first three I wasn't really digging it. The first book was mostly a repeat/recap of the looking forward portion of KC. Then Riley was a complete douche.
After getting past that I was loving my old favorites from KC. This gtown up version is much more steamy than I remember from this author...maybe these aren't considered YA like the other??
These books were unlike anything I had encountered previously... they are set out like a tv series with seasons and episodes which was strange but really good.
I haven't read the Keatyn Chronicles so I wasn't sure what I was getting myself in to and hadn't met the characters before.
I love that you get POV's from each of the characters and each character has their own thing going on so your getting many stories instead of just one.
I am absolutely addicted to these books... I read them one after the other and could have cried when I realised I had read them all and needed to wait for more.
The characters I love most - Riley and Ariela... They're story is definitely my favourite
This book is full of lots and lots of rings....................
A Four Leaf Clover Ring
A Sunset Engagement Ring
and most importantly to our characters of this Captive Films Series a priceless
Riley seriously grow up and stop being such a player..........Ariela you have some work to do ahead of you, but I couldn't be more excited with the possibilities!!
