The first definitive oral history of the ever popular L.A. Lakers
The L.A. Lakers have long been one of the NBA's most exciting teams. In The Show, critically acclaimed sportswriter Roland Lazenby brings the story of this charismatic team to life in an unprecedented oral history, featuring such legendary players as Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry West, Kareem Abdul- Jabbar, and Magic Johnson, along with current stars like Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant.

This is one of the best basketball books I have read. Lazenby does a great job of weaving all of participants stories into a compelling narrative. Growing up in Atlanta I was a big Hawks fan when I was a kid in the 80s but I also loved Magic and Kareem and the Showtime Lakers. This book brought back a lot of fond memories. The book paints a fascinating history of the Lakers back to their time in Minneapolis with George Mikan, to the frustrating 60s battles with West and Baylor losing to the hated Celtics, to their title with Wilt in 72, acquiring Kareem and drafting Magic in the 70s. Their glory days of their 5 NBA title 80s gives way to the years of wandering in the 90s. The book ends with Shaq and Kobe winning 3 titles in the early 2000s with Phil Jackson. Everyone from superstars to coaches, role players, broadcasters, and owners to figures with other teams have a voice on this book. It was a book I could not put down and did not want to end.
