I get a lot of review requests from authors who are trying to be the next big thing, who are desperate to sell themselves as doing something completely new and original. That's cool, and I appreciate the effort, but sometimes I just want to sit back, settle in, and explore a book that's comfortably familiar. Horror is one genre in particular where, more and more, I find myself looking for authors who appreciate the classic approach. No offense to those who prefer their horror urban and romantic, ...more

“Don’t talk to your food,” the vampire Anton keeps reminding himself. It is good advice that he has difficulty following, because, after all, eating should be fun. The fun ends, however, when he is discovered in an abandoned warehouse in Phoenix and is staked and his body burned. At least it seems that is an ending to Anton, until several years later in Los Angeles when a series of murders sets off an alarm in the Special Investigations Unit of the FBI. If history is repeating itself, the player ...more

This is a good story, made more interesting because it includes a different kind of vampire, thus immediately taking this out of the run-of-the-mill nosferatu variety. It’s refreshing to have it brought to the reading public’s attention that vampires exist outside of Transylvania.

It’s an exciting, slightly gory tale, not quite up to Stephen King-standards of grisly horror but getting there with a drama all its own. The descriptions of the vampire's depredations are definitely vivid and strikingl

If you say the cover for this novel isn't creepy, you're fibbing! I had the honor of review another book by author Donald Allen Kirch, and I was not disappointed. Out of the two novels of his I reviewed (the other one is called Through a Glass Darkly, click link for the review!), this is is probably my favorite. And let me tell you why:

V A M P I R E S ! ! !

Okay, so there's more to why I like this book, although I always enjoy reading about fanged be

Really good book. An entertaining read straight thru. It has a unique type of vampire with some interesting habits and ... ummm... peculiar tastes and I liked that it was different. Trust me - these creatures DO NOT sparkle!

Wow, this guy really knows how to write a story. This is the 2nd book of his that I have read, and Donald Allen Kirch definitely has a talent for creeping me out. I recently reviewed Through a Glass Darkly and enjoyed it immensely. You never know what you will get when you find a new author and start reading their books. Some you will love, some you might hate. So far he’s 2 for 2.

A Stake in Murder is about a nasty sort of vampire. It damn sure doesn’t sparkle, and it’s far from being a misunde

“A Stake in Murder” by Donald Allen Kirch

Kirch is once again, entertaining the masses with his latest release.

Anton Gerrold is the mortal name for a vampire (Aswang) who wants to feed. He’s been ‘killed’ before and is unfortunately, still around. When Special Agent Napoleon Hill finds out that Anton is still ‘alive,’ he is shocked but immediately jumps into action. He procures the help of Captain Darren Matheson—a nonbeliever of vampires—and mandates that reporter Sebastian Hemlock come to Los A
