This Level 2 guided reader illustrates examples of patterns found in school buildings and materials. Students will develop word recognition and reading skills while learning to identify how repeating shapes, colors, or lines form a pattern.
Young readers are encouraged to examine the photographs in this concept book so that they can identify various patterns in school-related objects such as books or the clothing students are wearing. There are also examples of things that don't form a pattern so readers can distinguish what a pattern is. I like the idea behind this book, but I wish that the answers to the questions had been included for easy access by young readers. I also like the fact that the book contains words that are a little bit challenging, such as "collage." Some might see that as a detriment, though, since students would struggle with the word.
