One night at a military bar, Cara meets Riley Forrester, a hot Army soldier who makes her melt with one look of his deep ocean blue eyes. But Riley is only staying the summer in Cali ...more

I got this because it looked like a military romance, and it was free. What it actually turned out to be was soft porn with a military twist.

Cara is a single mother who works all day, parties every other weekend ((SEXXXXXXX...))and completely blows off her two-year old while claiming he's a huge part of her life. She spends lots of time either hating on the inmates where sh

One thing is for sure this was a pleasure and not a duty to read this book. First time in reading this author and this one opened me up to a excellent writing style that keeps you reading once you begin and do not want to put it down till you are finished. Divorced mom Cara works and has a funny best friend Miranda. They go out on weekends looking for that good time at cowboy bars or ones with military. On one of these nights she meets Riley and the fun and romance begins. The interaction betwee ...more

Patriotic Duty is a fun, military romance and makes a great beach read (is it too early for beach reads? Nah...).

Cara is recently divorced and is only looking for a good time when she meets handsome Riley. She tells herself it's only a fling but the more they're together, the deeper her feelings go. When he gets his orders, will she stick with Riley or will she move on?

This was my first book by Pinard and it won't be my last. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Patriotic Duty. Cara and Riley are well

~!~ What a wonderful romance between two "normal" people ~!~

Cara is a 26 year old divorced mother with a 2 year old child and Riley is a military man stationed in Colorado but is temporarily stationed just outside San Francisco for 3 months. Cara and Riley meet at a bar and a beautiful romance develops between the two of them, but unfortunately their romance has an expiration date of that 3 months.
One of the things I really loved about this story is that it's about two regular people living regu

I loved it!! I felt emotions as the characters did! I love Cara and Riley's story! I felt happy at their happiness, distraught at their despair, and I was hopeful when things got rough!

This book takes you on a ride that you won't regret taking!!!

Cara, divorced at a young age, is just looking for a fun night when she meets the lovely (and sexy) Riley, who knew one night could turn into so much more??

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading romance and to the military girlfriends and w

Patriotic Duty (When Riley Met Carter, Book 1) has everything that I love in this contemporary romance by C.J. Pinard (Enchanted Immortals series). This short novel is fun, cheeky, sexy and saucy but not without the drama of a beautiful romance. If you're looking for a hot, cute soldier who's looking for more than somewhere to spend the night, then Riley is your man and Patriotic Duty is your kind of book!

Single mum and recent divorcee, Cara Reid spends most of her weekends with her best friend,

A great book about a woman/single mom who after finding a bunch of wrong guys for her.. Finds herself a one night stand that turns into so much more. He goes back over seas to fight for his country. He ends up lying to her and breaking her heart in the process. She moves back to where her parents live and she ends up seeing him he's hurt, he thinks she wouldn't love him anymore, when he was over their he bought her an engagment ring and he was gonna propose when he came back before he got hurt. ...more

Reading Patriotic Duty about a hot military guy who met a young single mother and became involved before he was deployed makes one realize the sacrifices military families make when they serve our country. Cara and Riley's story is sweet but the reality of the story and how close it is to some real-life situations is what made Patriotic Duty a great story to honor those how serve our country and their families.

Another good job by CJ Pinard! Book was filled with all the things I love in a book: sex, fun, sex, drama, sex, and romance. (Did I mention the sex? Whew!) Hope she writes more in this genre.

Such a good read with a surprising ending!

I enjoyed this book. Very easy read and took me back to some of the stories my former-military husband had. Quite a bit of erotica in this book, but not too overwhelming. Loved the fact it mainly took place in California and was up to date on lingo.

I really enjoyed this quick read. Its the kind of book you would want to curl up with on a cold and dreary day. The main Character, Cara, is a person to admire. Being only 26, she finds herself a divorced and single mother. She has pulled up her big girl panties and move on in raising her 2 year old son. She is a touch of a party girl, but only when her son is with his dad on weekends and such. Cara and her best friend, Miranda, frequent clubs in search of a good time. their mission is to catch ...more

This story was a very touching story between a girl & her soldier boy she didn't mean to have feelings for, But she did, And when he got the orders he had to leave she didn't forget about him nor would she see anyone She tried but her heart and feelings were with Riley,

The story also made me angry and cry I thought that he was really going to leave her, And he did it with a phone call, When he got back to Colorado he said he found someone else but he was hiding some thing from Cara He could

I read this book, twice. The first time I just couldn't fall into it, then I realized it was because I was still holding on to the thought that it was a book by the author of Enchanted Immortals, so I felt it strange. I had to put it down, let my mind rest a bit and then re-read it. The story is really good and the characters are perfectly defined, it's easy to identify oneself with them. I loved Cara, she's a sweet, funny character. I found it a bit too sexual for my taste. Miranda, I did not l ...more

This is definitely a book that will keep you up until you finish it! The characters, especially Cara as she was struggling to find her identity outside of being a divorced mother. Riley Forrester is a soldier training at another base and once his training was over, he would be headed back to Colorado. Colorado is not California, so Cara tries to reassure herself that their relationship can be nothing more than friends with benefits. Funny how the heart doesn't listen! Unexpected orders to deploy ...more
Dnf at 12% Cara came over as little more than a drunken slut. There is a scene where she is suffering a serious hangover on a Monday morning from the drinking on Saturday and she takes her child to daycare!!!!!

So WHO looked after the child on Sunday night :?? Clearly the mother was totally incapable. I gave up in disgust at this point.

This book was a easy read, took me about a day to get through it. Pretty good story line, and wrapped up well at the end
Never mind the first chapter, not even a sentence into the DEDICATION there's an error. Did anyone proofread? The writing is awkward and drags on minor details. Plus the title rankles with me - as if it's a woman's Patriotic Duty to fuck a soldier or some such rubbish. DNFing one chapter in.

I had to call it at 17%. Cara in the first few chapters didn't make me like her and honestly, I'm sad to say, I thought "geez, I don't blame her husband for leaving".

There's absolutely nothing to show that she's a loving mother except a word or 2 that he's her world.... But it really doesn't read that way (especially with taking strange men to your house - - even if the kid is with daddy that weekend)

She's bitching in the first chapter about how she needed to quit her hairstylist job for the p

Do you like books that are written at a 3rd grade level and make you feel dumb? Or an even better question, do you like books that are written about VERY DUMB people? Then this is for you!

Bookbub said I could download this book for free, so I did. Now *I* am dumb! I can get GOOD books for free at the library!

I have rewritten the synopsis that should appear on the book's jacket:

Stand alone

I love Cara and her bestie Miranda. Their tell it like it is attitude adds a light almost fluffy tone to the beginning of the novel although their occasional choice of language might make a few readers wince. Neither makes any bones about going to bars to hook up. Anyway when soldier Riley meets single mom Cara in a military bar its insta-drop your jocks and full steam ahead. You can’t blame the man, time is against him.

It was all very fast paced. I know it was spread out through weeks but the story just jumped to each visit no story in-between.

I liked Riley we never got a back story for him other than he's stationed in Colorado but is from Arizona?? I think I can't even remember.

Cara was lying to herself basically until he had to leave that she wasn't in love with him and that it wasn't serious between them.

This book was free on Barnes and Noble so I figured I'd give it a try. It was a short read, 153 pages on my Nook and I finished it in one afternoon. I know 2 stars seesm low and I'm not trying to be mean, this book was just lacking for me. I felt it was very rushed and therefore we missed out on a lot of possible story and it made Riley seem a little creepy and needy to me. Had we gotten more story and found them doing more than just humping I think I would've found the love story more believabl ...more

As the 4 stars means: I really liked it.
At the beginning I wasn't sure if I wanted to read it or not, but let me say that 'Patriotic Duty' is a good mix between love, life, pain, sex, romance and reality.
I liked the characters, they aren't perfect, because this is what you find in real life: real people that make mistakes, and at the same time take good choices. Well I have to admit that for me, sometimes Cara is a little bit "sexual" but it's ok.
The love story that you can find in this book is

Such a cute and FUN story! I got this for free from Amazon and at first I thought it was just another contemporary romance. But, while fun and witty, it was so much more! Love the intensity of the attraction between Cara and Riley. My heart completely broke when he let her go.

I'm definitely going to read Tour of Duty, from Riley's POV!
