Cowboy Colony Mail-Order Brides #6

Rescued by the Alien Bull Rider

Rate this book
A grumpy alien cowboy, a pregnant human woman, and the power of finding family in the most unexpected of places…When I lose my home and my horse all in the same afternoon, I’m forced to take painful stock of my situation. I’m twenty-three years old. Single. And pregnant. I’ve always been the glass-half-full sort of gal, but things are looking truly dire as I stare down my rapidly approaching due date.

That’s when I hear about Zabria Prinar One. A ranching outpost planet where a bunch of lonely alien cowboys are waiting for brides. I grew up on a ranch – surely I have enough to offer that one of them will want me. Even if my own family doesn’t.

So I book a shuttle and go.

But my pilot abandons me in a random field, leaving me to face down the intimidating elements alone.
Including one very angry alien bull about to charge.
Just before I get gored, a powerful rider with white eyes comes thundering out of the darkness to save me.

His name is Zohro. He’s beautiful and pink – the colour of all my favourite things.
He is also possibly the grumpiest and most impatient male I have ever met.

But I don’t care. There’s a protective streak in him that makes me feel so safe, no matter how fierce his frowns are. Within moments of meeting him, I know that he’s the one I want to marry.

I just have to tell him that I’m pregnant with another man’s child first…

Maybe the best book in the series so far!

This is the story of Zohro (if you don't remember him, he's the pink one of the warden's men and didn't vote for the wife program). He was a child prodigy surgeon in his last life before being sent to Zabria Prinar One. He's also the one who saved the warden's life in book 4.

Our FMC, Jolene, is from a ranch on a human planet. Her mom died giving birth to her, and she was raised by her stepfather who never truly accepted her. Jolene finds herself in a similar situation - she's pregnant, and the father of the child wants no part in it. She's desperate to create the family for herself and her baby that she never got to experience.

There were so many beautiful elements in this book. Jolene and Zohro both have their own emotional trauma from their past lives, but they both 100% love and accept one another, and that teaches them to slowly love themselves. Seeing them heal themselves and each other was so truly moving. NO ONE loves their wife like these alien men do. They are so down bad, and it's so good every time.

Safety warning: traumatic birth.
If you're sensitive to a difficult birth story, you can absolutely skip chapters 24 and 25 without missing any critical elements to the story. Both the mother and the baby are totally fine, though! It ends up being really touching seeing how prepared Zohro was for the birth and how much research he did to ensure the health and safety of his wife and daughter.

Idk, but this book felt too fast and too slow at the same time. It was fast in the sense that there was mutual attraction from the outset, but it was also slow because these two didn't communicate at all. Sure, they talk about trivial things, but when it comes to important matters, both of them are too afraid to do it. So instead they'll just have their assumptions (mostly wrong or misinterpreted) about the other and will go on with their lives thinking that way. Ngl, it was frustrating. I think this book is by far my least favorite in the series.

Also, this is totally just me. I don’t mind pregnancy in books, but I really prefer it as an afterthought, like maybe in the epilogue or something like that. Sometimes I do read about surprise pregnancies. But in this case, I'm just really uninterested in that situation. I wasn't a fan of it or how, for most of the book, the story revolves around Jolene's situation. The way I see it, I feel like the romance was more of a secondary aspect in the story.

And Zohro was far too grumpy for my liking. I'm sure other readers love that kind of character; he's just not the type of grumpy I usually enjoy reading, and that's okay. But I do love that he's protective and a good guy deep down. Oh well, all of these aliens are OTT in their own ways. 🤭

Anyhoo, another issue of MINE is I was uncomfortable reading about FMCs who are promiscuous. I remember the FMC from the previous book was just like this too. I’ve never really liked this kind of lifestyle from men, and it turns out I’m not a fan of it from women either. The way she talks about casual sex or hookups sounds just like how guys in stories usually talk about it. I don't want her to be freaking virginal, but I don't want her to go about it so carelessly either. And this line of hers just left a sour taste.

"I hadn’t been with anyone since getting pregnant. But before that, I didn’t really have any reservations about sex. Sexually transmitted infections had been eliminated ages ago, and I was generally down to bone just about anybody who sent a drink and a wink my way at Sal’s bar. None of them were boyfriends. None of them stuck around."

Anywaaay, I'm sure other readers will love this more than I did, and I really hope it finds its intended audience.

Rescued by the Alien Rider is an emotional alien romance about survival, second chances, and learning what it means to finally be chosen.

-♡-♡-♡-♡-♡-♡-♡-♡-♡-♡-♡-♡-♡-♡-♡-♡-

Jolene’s life has been marked by loss and rejection. After her mother died giving birth to her, her father always held resentment against her. Years later, a one-night stand leaves her pregnant, and when the truth comes out, her father turns his back on her completely—kicking her out of the house just weeks before her due date. Desperate for safety for herself and her baby, Jolene finds out about the alien bride program and decides to take her chances.

That’s where Zohro comes in. Once one of the youngest Zambrians to graduate the medical field, his life took a darker turn… convicted as a child, he was sent to the colony ranches to work out the rest of his life. He thought companionship wasn’t in the cards for him anymore until Jolene lands near his ranch. When he saves her from a charging bull, it sparks the beginning of a connection neither of them expected.

What made this book so much fun though was the little details alongside the emotional depth. The funny mispronunciations had me laughing (per usual), and the group chat with all the other brides added such a warm, lighthearted touch—it really showed the found-family side of the story. (Darcy cracks me up so much in those chapters 😂) And then there was Zohro himself: grumpy to the world, but endlessly sweet and tender with Jolene. (we love a grumpy man who’s head over heels and obsessed with his woman 🫶🏼) That contrast made their romance even more heart-melting.

What really stood out to me while reading was how Jolene’s story came full circle. She’s always been cast aside, never truly chosen, and it was moving to see Zohro prove, through both words and actions, that she mattered to him. Even when she questioned if his care was only out of guilt, he showed her over and over that his love was real. And in return, Jolene helped him see that he was more than just his past or his skills as a surgeon. She loved him for who he was, flaws and all.

This book gave me the emotional highs and lows I look for in an alien romance: heartbreak, redemption, laugh-out-loud moments, tenderness, and a love that feels both protective and healing. Ursa Dax delivered a story that shows how two broken people can come together and build something whole.

Okay okay you guys know I love this series with my whole heart but I feel the romance wasn’t my fav here because I wish they had communicated so much earlier!!! I usually don’t mind a miscommunication trope but this one had me crawling up the wall!!! but I loved the character work with Jolene and Zohro and how they both learned to value themselves 😭 and baby girl!! So sweet and cute!!!

“I think that I was always meant to burn down my old life. So that I could find you and Autumn in the ashes.” 🫂♥️

This was so good!!! I love that the pregnancy trope was incorporated but I wish the author had expanded on it!!!🥲

She shouldn't have made her 9 months pregnant 🤷🏾‍♀️!!! It didn't make sense to me but I loved the way Zohro was with Autumn after she was born!!!🤭

I knew Zohro would be such a teddy bear for his bride and he didn't disappoint!!! 😭🤌🏾.

The way he learnt about human anatomy in preparation for her labour!!!! That was so cute!!!! 😭 The way he was so worried about not being able to do it right😭❤️‍🩹

My favourite quotes;

That is not the way things are now,” he practically spat. He pointed a savage claw towards the house. “As long as I live, Jolene – no, longer. As long as that house still stands with my bones buried beside it, you have a home. All others before have failed you.” He dropped his hand and raised his chin. “I will not.”

😭❤️‍🩹My God!!!!

“Why did I think that I could do this?”
“Because you can do this,”
“And for the things you cannot do, that is when you turn to me.”

🛐🫂

"There was a time that I would have let you leave me. That time has long-since passed. Just try to leave me now. Try to go back to your old world. I will do anything to keep you, short of throwing myself in front of the shuttle meant to take you away. No. I will not even stop there. Try to leave, and you’d merely need to look out your shuttle’s window to see me clinging to the side of it. Like a barnacle.”

I want my future man to be THIS obsessed!!! 🤌🏾💁🏾‍♀️

On to the last published book🙂✨

3.5 stars rounded up

Honestly, this was a 3 star for me for much of the book because as adorable and comforting as this series is, I was frustrated at the misconceptions between Zohro (H) and Joelene (h). Then the third act came along and they both found healing, I was tearing up, there was a baby, Zohro was tossing around “my wife”, and it all soothed the sting of the earlier misconceptions and assumptions. These two were deeply hurt and damaged by their pasts and the expectations that others put on them, changing the expectations they had for themselves. But love on this beautiful alien, cowboy planet softens those hard edges with the perspective of new life and new priorities. Can’t wait to finish catching up and get the new crop of alien men.

Written in first person, dual POV. No ow/om drama. The h is very experienced and used sex as an escape before she accidentally got pregnant. The H has no experience.

Some tropes/themes:
☆ Alien MMC x human FMC
☆ MMC is a doctor AND a cowboy (not by choice for the latter)
☆ Heavily pregnant FMC
☆ Virgin MMC
☆ Grumpy/harsh appearing MMC
☆ Acts of service
☆ FMC who’s never been chosen...until now
☆ Descriptive pregnancy and eventual birth
☆ Also mentions of postpartum mental health
☆ Past character cameos
☆ Livestock playing a role in identity
☆ Group chat hilarity continues
☆ Wife and child claiming
☆ Closure from past hurts
☆ Slooooow burn, steam not til almost the very end
☆ The infamous cock tail lol

Jolene was bold and a bit impulsive in her decision to hitch a ride to an alien planet, but also, goals. She was compassionate, brave, but insecure because of the lack of support in her life. Zohro was grouchy but loyal, and fell as quickly as the other guys in their books. They both made some assumptions about the other’s reasoning behind getting married, but eventually got their heads on straight.

Spice: 2/5

Triggers: pregnancy, c-section, blood, parent dying in childbirth (past, resulting from being thrown from a horse), emotionally unavailable parent, houselessness after being kicked out by unsupportive parent for being pregnant, animal attack (bull)

I don’t think I will ever get sick of these books. They’re so cute, wholesome and funny and I find myself genuinely laughing so many times. This one also made me super emotional towards the end!

Ursa nailed it and I’m obsessed. I didn’t think I could love a book with the pregnancy trope and yet I finished it in a day.

Ahhhhhh 😭😝👀 This reminds me of that song by Chris Grey --> Let the world burn. It's so so real, I love it.

This part just cracked me up,😭🤣 I was laughing like a maniac to myself in the middle of the night. 😔🤷‍♀️👀😭😝

BRB CRYING.

Crying cause it hit my abandonment issues in the core.
Crying cause of the happy ending and found family. (I’m including everyone on the planet at this point.)
Crying over the continued hilarious miscommunication of the word “pyjamas”.

Once again I am screaming from the rooftops how much I enjoy this series. I want to say I’m pretty biased since the fmc is a redhead but this may be my favorite of the series.

We all have been WAITING patiently to see the grumpy cowboy from book one get a wife, after being so adamant about not wanting one.
His story did NOT disappoint either. His internal dialogue was S-tier! Him trying to stay professional doctor mode is the best, he’s just a simple man!!!
Also, Zaddy Zhoro?!??! Add him to the DILF list.

((( thank you always to the author for providing me an arc of the book prior to publication date - forever grateful )))

This one isn't as cute and funny, mostly because the MMC is our resident grumpy genius, not a majestic himbo like the others. He still has his moments of glorious ignorance. The main characters are working through some more serious issues and the story ends up heartwarming and satisfying.
I look forward to getting to know the other boys soon.

There’s crack in these books, has to be. The many names for pajamas always make me laugh, and the little glimpses of all the other characters was perfect. Zohro was so grumpy and his I AM A SURGEON outbreaks were straight out of the good doctor. The pregnancy and baby didn’t even bother me and that’s saying a lot.

4.5 ⭐️ ARC • I LOVE THESE BOOKS!! i will NEVER get tired of these disaster alien cowboys!!

jolene was impulsive, a little reckless, but so sweet at heart. zohro was a mess, but it was really interesting to be in his head — if anyone else is a firefly fan here, he reminded me a ton of simon. while all the other zabrian obviously had their own issues with being sent to this penal colony, it was interesting to be in zohro’s head, who had lost so much and was still very angry about it.

of course, chaos hours in the group chat (love agent of chaos darcy) & typical miscommunication/misunderstanding tropes (but thankfully not drawn out) — but i love how zohro became the perfect dad (not a step-father, but the father who STEPPED. UP.) & was so willing and ready to fight & go to bat for jolene, and support her with all aspects of herself. seeing them finding a home & family & healing with each other was so sweet — i blew threw this book so fast, and i cannot wait to reread it. all hail queen ursa dax as always!!

4 ⭐️ I am NOT ready for this series to end...

I know that we're just moving over to the other warden's guys but I'm sadddd. If we don't get to hear about ridiculous ways to say pyjamas or the girls group chat being unhinged at any hour of the day, is it really part of this series anymore???

I just love these books so much! They've become such a comfort read to me, and I really hope we get to experience more alien swooning soon!!

On another note, I'm kind of bummed that this had the PERFECT opportunity to showcase how pregnant women can also be sexual powerhouses, and we skipped the whole thing basically!! I know we tend to do the slow-burn thing in this series but come onnnnnnn... That last scene (even tho she was very much not pregnant anymore) was pure k!nk tho and I do appreciate it!! No notesss!!

Zohro and Jolene were so cute together. I loved them both and there’s a baby!!!! This was super cute and a very slow burn not because she was pregnant! Hahaha!! He wanted her bad. From day one. They had issues. I’m so glad Zohro kept showing up for Jolene. I feel like she needed the time. She needed to be sure he would always be there for her.

This is such a light hearted and fun sci fi romance series! In this edition we learn Zohro and Jolene’s story. This story differs in that Jolene was not recruited as a bride for the Zabrians. Her story starts in a heart breaking yet relatable fashion. There are themes of uncertainty throughout that makes our happily ever after that much more engaging and satisfying. I avoid spoilers when reviewing Ursa’s books because they are truly worth reading. I look forward to the next edition in this universe!

I love this series, but this book lacked the tenderness that the other books had between the couples. It didn't have as much of the banter and the cute moments that I loved in the previous books and that made it a little hard to buy their love story. I just wanted more.

Zohro and Jolene might just be my favorite couple of the series 🥹 I’ll admit, I was hesitant about a pregnancy trope but of course it exceeded all expectations. This story is sweet, funny, and healing. I love how in these alien cowboys are - even in the smallest ways, they’re just 👏 all 👏 in.

Can’t wait for the next one!

Thanks to Ursa for the ARC and writing such an amazing book!
