This is a very good introduction to the care of aging parents. Brummett has a very conversational style of writing which makes the book very readable. She has also included many resources, sometimes included in the text, but there is also a list at the end of the book. She covers just about every topic, from realizing our parents are not as we remember them to financial aspects to helping them grieve when they lose their friends. Brummett illustrates her suggestions with stories from her own experiences and those of others. It is not an exhaustive book on elder care but is a good place to start for those beginning the process.

This book deals with how to plan and help our aging parents. It has a faith based approach but would be a good read for anyone with aging parents.

I received a free copy of the book from Goodreads but my opinions are my own.

It’s not easy, this business of our parents growing older. It is difficult emotionally, of course. But there is more: so much to learn, so much to plan, so much to do, and the worst of it is that we have no idea what we should be doing and planning and where to get reliable information. And through it all, we want to honor our parents and respect them for who they are, what they have done, and the role God has given them in our lives.

Take My Hand Again: A Faith-Based Guide for Helping Aging Parents by Nancy Parker Brummett aims to help...and does so very well.

I was well pleased with this read. Based on wisdom and real life experience, I was taking care of elderly neighbors when I got this book and by the time I read it they were in a nursing home. I highly recommend this book for all adult children looking after an aging parent. I also think everyone should read it to know what to do in advance. Her style is very refreshing!!
