About the author

Anita Ganeri is a highly experienced author of children’s information books, specialising in religion, India/Asia, multiculturalism, geography, biography and natural history. She became a freelance writer after working at Walker Books (as foreign rights manager) and Usborne Publishing (as an editor). Since then, she has written over 300 titles, including the best-selling Horrible Geography series for Scholastic. The series won the Geographical Association Silver Award in 1999 and was cited as being ‘an innovation that all geographers will applaud’. She is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society where she conducts most of her research for the books.

Here is my unscientific review: my first grade son who is obsessed with geography LOVED this book. He loved it so much that he hid it in his room for two weeks. The information was easy for him to understand, and the illustrations were charmingly appealing.

Children Mysteries. They publish picture books, novels and nonfiction titles and feature books about subjects that discus disease, bullying and disabilities.

Arrangement/Presentation: Each country includes imagery that picks out something unique about the country. The atlas includes trivia. The illustrations are great for curious children.

Relation to similar works: The current collection does include an atlas but none that include colorful illustrations.

Accessibility/Diversity: The atlas displays countries around the world and provides a unique perspective about each country. The students can explore using illustrations that allow them to put a picture with a word. The atlas is great for reluctant readers and readers who are learning to read.

Relation to other works: This atlas is targeted toward younger students so will make a nice companion to the new world atlas for the 9-12 year olds. There is no atlas available in the library for this level of student, so this will help the library to have information for all children in the school.

Accessibility/Diversity: This book can be used by anyone in the library, but will appeal to visual learners of all ages.

Let's put this On Hold. I bought it with the intention that nights when I didn't necessary want to dive into a story but wanted something to thumb through while chilling on the couch and watching TV, I could turn to this. But so far, that's only happened once.
