A Wild Cards story whose appearance last year I somehow missed. I'm more than a little bored of satires of Hollywood vacuity (people there are superficial, backbiting and lack an understanding of history? Really?), and while I can certainly enjoy a hateful narrator, they need to be executed with a certain pizzazz. Pop Tart, alas, is merely annoying – Miss Piggy with teleportation powers.

Another short story

OMG I hate her! The writer did an excellent job on her narrative voice, because she's the perfect selfish wannabe actress. Good job Walter Jon Williams.

Another shorty that I read to catch up with some Wild Cards universe goings on, this Walter Jon Williams quickie is fun, lightweight, but – oddly – still in perfect continuity with the series.

This also takes place after the events of The Committee, and the civil war in Egypt. But, like I said, this is a light bit of comic relief from more serious tales from the Wild Cards world. We check in with professionally perky, pretty, and optimistic Hollywood starlet wannabe, Cleo.

She was known as Pop Ta

Hollywood is a hard place. Its a hard place to live. Its a hard place to survive. The Wild Card virus gives us many things that Hollywood would love. Not only actors of renown beauty, and capacity, but also people who can bring things that are not there. The projectionist was able to change his features. The Golden boy Jack Braun, had the looks that would melt hearts, and he never aged. American Hero TV show gave us aces that could change

Another story in the Wild Cards Universe (which one ought to say the same way they say Marvel Cinematic Universe). Not being familiar with the characters ahead of time might be a slight issue, once you realize that these people all knew each other previously. And the illustration almost gives away the ending.

Most are science fiction or fantasy -Hardwired, Voice of the Whirlwind, Aristoi, Metropolitan, City on Fire to name just a few - a few are historical adventures, and the most recent, The Rift, is a disaster novel in which "I just basically pound a part of the planet down to bedrock." And that's just the opening chapters ...more
