I picked this book up while looking for the other with the same title. While written almost 15 years ago, it is still relevant in answering a few questions. At the writing of the book, Egypt was undergoing a transformation in that, religiosity was sweeping over society. Religious factions or institutions were taking over non-religious societal functions. Those were supposed to be managed by the state or other secular institutions, which they failed because of incompetence and corruption. Since t ...more
