Welcome to Fortune Academy, a school where supernaturals can feel at home—except I have no idea what I am.
The last thing I remember is arriving at the massive gates with a Bounty Hunter staring me down. I have a feeling he was supposed to take me to the monster holding arena to fight. Instead, I’m Fortune Academy’s newest student.
I can relate to the monsters in ways the other students can’t. My mentor, who is way too hot for his own good, tells me my behavior is the result of my memory loss and that I’m just trying to identify with a past pain that I’ve buried too far to feel.
I think he’s wrong. I think the reason I can’t relate to any of the students is because I’m one of the monsters they’re trained to hunt.
I don’t fit into any of the supernatural cliques, and that makes me stand out in the wrong way.
A brawny wolf shifter, a moody dark mage, and a playboy demigod have decided to break me. They think I don’t have any powers and that I was recruited by mistake.
It’ll be their funeral if they push me too far because I’m holding back. Whatever is buried deep inside me is something dark and dangerous that I can’t let out.
My name is Lily Fallen, but don’t let my pretty face fool you. I’m a monster in a school uniform, and it’s only a matter of time before I teach my bullies a lesson they won’t forget.
Fortune Academy is a complete 10-book collection of the bestselling series by J.R. Thorn, full of spice, snark, and found family in unexpected places.
USA Today Bestselling Author J.R. Thorn is a Reverse Harem Romance author. All her books are written in the same world except for co-write books, so be sure to check out the recommended reading order listed above or on the website! (She'll also admit to having an unhealthy obsession with magical tattoos and alpha males.)
Fortune Academy isn’t just a story; it’s an experience. From heartbreak to triumph, the series pulls you into a world of intrigue and emotion that lingers long after the last page. J.R. Thorne knows how to make every character, every plot twist, unforgettable. From the first chapter I was hooked and now I can’t stop reading Thorne’s works! After reading I went back and started from the beginning in all the prequel series and I’m absolutely obsessed.
Fortune Academy: Books 1–10 (Fortune Academy Series) by J.R. Thorn
Fortune Academy: Books 1–10 (Fortune Academy Series) by J.R. Thorn ~~ This entire series was an absolute escape for me — and that’s saying something because I don’t commit to ten-book series unless they truly deliver. From Book One through Book Ten, the story grows darker, deeper, and more emotionally intense in the best possible way. What starts as a paranormal academy story quickly turns into something far more layered, dangerous, and unforgettable.
Lily — also known as Lilith — is the heart of this series. Watching her grow into her power, embrace who she truly is, and struggle with what that power costs kept me fully invested from beginning to end. She isn’t perfect, she makes hard choices, and she carries the weight of every decision she makes — which makes her feel real. The Underworld politics, betrayals, shifting alliances, and constant power struggles raise the stakes with every book. Nothing resets, nothing is forgotten, and every choice Lily makes has lasting consequences.
Her relationships are a huge part of the story, and this is very much a why-choose series. Lily’s journey is intertwined with her lovers — including powerful, dangerous, and complex men such as Lucifer, Samael, Azazel, and others tied to the Underworld and Hell itself. Each relationship serves a purpose, adds depth to her character, and evolves alongside the plot rather than existing just for shock value. The emotional bonds, loyalty, jealousy, and passion all play into the larger story arc in a way that kept me hooked.
I read most of this series on Kindle, but when I wasn’t reading, I was listening on Audible — which I do often because reading and listening helps keep my head sane when I’m not teaching. The narration adds real depth to the emotions, especially in the later books when the tension is higher and everything is on the line. Switching between reading and listening was seamless, and both formats held my attention completely.
By the time I reached the later books, I was emotionally invested and genuinely didn’t want the series to end. This isn’t just magic and action — it’s growth, heartbreak, loyalty, sacrifice, and strength. The ending felt earned, and the journey to get there was absolutely worth it.
If you enjoy darker paranormal academy stories with strong character development, real consequences, and a series that only gets better as it goes on, this box set is a must-read (or must-listen).
⚠️ Content Warning: This series is intended for readers 18+ only. It contains explicit sexual content, including frequent, graphic scenes and multiple partners (why-choose). If you are uncomfortable with detailed sexual situations or prefer low-heat romance, this series is not for you.
I would definitely recommend this book and series and can’t wait to start on the next book. If you want to know what happens next, you’ll just have to read this series yourself — you won’t regret it.
Listen, I read the entire thing okay. So obviously I enjoyed the plot. That was probably the only reason I didnt DNF or give this a lower rating. I also kept hoping that this book would get less toxic and its the not hawt kind of toxic either. I love an enemies to lovers trope and a bully trope as much as the next girl but theres usually groveling and heart to hearts to fix the hurt. Fixing the hurt was either sex or dying for her. It wasnt until like book ten that they even really built anything that wasnt skin deep. And dont even get me started on the sharing within the group. Listen I live and breathe mm and boyfriends/mates who are also boyfriends and mates but with this group! Heck no, it was straight up cheating and icky. There's also a TON of dub con in here so if youre sensitive to that, youre not going to make it through this series. I normally dont have an issue with it but when the relationship foundation is built on manipulation through sex.. it just feels icky. I'm frustrated that I didnt absolutely love this because on paper, this should have been a dream for me.. alas, I wish I stopped when I felt a violent cringe of disgust the first time instead of hoping it would get better. But the 3 star rating is because it is a good storyline even though it does get repetitive a lot. Idk. Man. This series just didnt sit right with me. Maybe the whole lack of describing for all the mmcs except one and the best the author came up with was some kind of "asian".. like baby girl, there are sooo many ways to describe an Asian person. He was also the only other character besides the fmc who had a last name.. okay I need to just hush. You can tell, I didnt like it.
3.5💫 I enjoyed this story. It's kinda long than it should be. I found out I do have a smutt limit and 8 pages for each smutt scene and there were a lot. I began to skim them. I feel like sometimes there is too many but I still enjoyed the story and loved all of Lily's mates. There's not 1 I did not dislike. The world is pretty complex and has a good plot. Some parts I felt were silly and I kind of wish there was more humor in this book.
I liked the plot. I don’t think it should be 10 books though. It could’ve been 3 books I think and it was just… a never ending cycle of things happening. Honestly reading the last few were a chore and I almost DNF’ed the book. I enjoy well written smut but every few pages were smut scenes. Which was a lot. Even for me. A lot of the book is just… fluff or drama to add “suspense” and by the end of it I just wanted to be done with it.
A lot of effort was put into this book. But it just wasn’t good. The story line seemed to have too many characters for the author to truly keep up with. It lacked depth and romance. The story line changed continuously so you couldn’t really enjoy it. I was very disappointed.
I read all 10 books at once and loved it all. I was a little disappointed with the ending but I guess I'll have to read the next series once it's finished. But I highly recommend reading this!
I really like the series and the detail everything was given. I do think some parts could have been taken out to make it a little shorter as some parts seemed a little more drawn out than needed. There were definitely a lot of twists and unexpected moments that made the final ending even better.
I wanted to love this but the character development and writing weren’t quite there… plot was good though! Just needed a little oomph… could be because it’s all books 1-10 at once
