Highland Hearts #1

My Highland Lover

Rate this book
Maeve Greyson unleashes a thrilling tale of magic and desire as a feisty Southern gal falls into the arms of a rough-hewn Highland chieftain.

As the proprietor of a homeopathic store in rural Kentucky, Trulie Sinclair knows that her neighbors think she’s strange—but they have no idea how strange she really is. Trulie was born in Scotland in the thirteenth century to a line of time-traveling Highlanders. When Trulie’s grandmother convinces her to return to their homeland, Trulie jumps back in time, right onto the powerful chest of Gray MacKenna. Just as his steely good looks send ripples through her body, their fierce attraction will send ripples through the ages.

After his parents are murdered, Gray is consumed by thoughts of revenge. As the new chieftain of the MacKenna clan, he has reason to believe that there’s a traitor in his midst, and nothing—not even the bonny lass who suddenly drops from the sky—can distract him from his single-minded pursuit of the culprit. But when Gray learns that this sassy beauty possesses gifts beyond the sparkle in her eye, he allows his gaze, and his heart, to linger. While he hunts for the murderer, Gray finds in Trulie a precious companion—and a timeless love.

This was a very enjoyable historical time travel romance. I really liked how the time traveling took place, it had an original spin on it. The imagination used in this book was AMAZING!

The story line was also really good, there was always something happening making this a very interesting read. There was a bit of suspense and a few villains added in that added a lot to the overall story line.

My favorite character of this read was the hero Gray, he was so dam yummy! But I have to say that ALL of the characters were nicely done.

In the beginning Gray and Trulie did not want to give into the whole match making scheme but it did not take long for them to realize that they were a perfect match. They definitely had great chemistry together and the love scenes were tastefully sensual.

I absolutely LOVED the ending/epilogue. It ended in the most perfect way.

This was my first read by this author and I would definitely read more of her books in the future.

My Highland Lover
was a fun romance complete with a sexy Highland chief, and a spunky time traveling heroine.

Trulie begrudgingly travels back in time at the urging of her grandmother, the matriarch of the Sinclair family. Her grandmother clearly has plans for her, and the obviously involve the Mackenna Highland Chief, Gray. When their connection becomes more serious, Trulie has to decide whether she wants to go back to her home in the present or stay in the past and make a life with Gray.

I enjoyed the romance and loved the setting in the Scottish Highlands. Gray was a determined, swoon-worthy chief, confused by the abrupt arrival of Trulie Sinclair, but bewitched by here nonetheless. Trulie’s arrival is helpful since she can read others thoughts and emotions, and Gray suspects some foul play in the recent death of his mother and father in a fire. Together they piece out the truth of what happened.

I did enjoy this lighthearted, and at times, silly romance. There were some surprisingly sad moments as well, and Trulie and Gray have to navigate some serious emotions. The whole paranormal aspect, the time traveling abilities and why the Sinclair possessed them were not explained in depth. Not sure I’ll continue with the serious, it didn’t really knock my socks off, but I did have fun reading My Highland Lover.

My initial thoughts lustings about the cover:
Good lord, that cover! His body!! O_O Can I switch places with her?! Pretty please?

Summary
Trulie Sinclair, helps run a homeopathic store along with her grandmother and her sisters. She loves living in the modern world and has built her life here. But her grandmother has different plans for her and they reside in the past in the highlands. Trulie was born in the 1200’s, but had to come to modern-day. But now she knows that she is needed in the Scottish Highlands. So they make the jump back in time and lands on top of Gray MacKenna. Gray, is the chieftain the MacKenna clan, but is bent on revenge for the death of his parents. He knows that there is a traitor in his midst, he just needs to find him or her and bring them to justice. But then a young lass Trulie lands in his lap, a lass of mystical powers, a woman who is stubborn and full of determination. He can’t resist the passion he sees in her eyes, or the way she has opened his heart to other possibilities in his life. But will the revenge for his parents deaths take control or will the power of love heal the worst wounds…

The Hero
Gray, is quite the hero. He hasn’t had an easy life, but knew the love of his parents, and the love they had for each other. But Gray is full of pride and bitterness, and he just doesn’t know if he has room for anything else in his life. He is protective of his clan and everyone that resides within. What did I truly admire about his character? His tenacity and the way he leads his people. You see from the beginning of the story his strength and fortitude, and such determination to find his parents killers. The way he is with Trulie is wonderful, he doesn’t deny his feelings for her…he embraces them, which was quite refreshing.

The Heroine
Trulie loves the modern world and all of its conveniences. She doesn’t deny how simply and easy life is. At first she is determined to stay in this time, but she knows that there is something more for her in the past, and does the right thing, even if she doesn’t understand the why. You see the way that she is the perfect match for Gray. She is no pushover, and she doesn’t stand idly by, she takes action and I love her sassy attitude. It was quite an energetic feeling you get seeing them interact with each other. Her character was charming and fun, she is quite the free spirit, but she craves what any human woman does, and I love seeing the different facets of her character.

Plot and Story Line
This is the first time I have had the opportunity to read this author. I was so grateful to have the opportunity to try this one out and I do love my sexy highlander romances, but when you add a blend of magic and time travel…and you have a winning gem of a story. Now I am a bit picky at times of time travel, but this is one that any one who loves a good romance would enjoy. This is the first in her latest series, so I definitely would recommend trying it out. My Highland Lover is a story that does have a bit of a paranormal element, with a bit of mystery and danger aspects included that really make a well-balanced read. The story in the beginning is very engaging and witty, and you don’t have a hard time with the flow of the story…at least at first. About halfway…I did struggle a little bit, I felt like the flow felt a bit staggered and now as smooth as in the beginning of the story…but it does level out and becomes more smoothly a bit later. What I truly enjoyed about this story, was how we have a balance of a mystery and a love story. There is a focus on solving some murders here, as well as a current crime, and plus we have the intense relationship between Gray and Trulie. There are some truths revealed that I didn’t see coming, and I do love a good twist that keeps you engaged. You definitely need to stick with the story, and I am so glad that I did. What I found a delight, was the historical context as well. It is very obvious that this author has done her homework and studied the era she takes us to. It was quite an enjoyable ride of passion, adventure, and magic.

Cover
Now who wouldn’t love this cover…oh my…I might just swoon. I love the pose, and man that male model…such a gorgeous body…all that muscle and sinew, that hair, and in a kilt…I mean who can resist such sexual appeal right? Then you have that majestic background of the highlands, overall one hell of a cover!

Overall View
A wonderful and stimulating time travel romance that takes you to a time of magic, myths, and desire. A tale of danger, intrigue and sensuality. A DELIGHT!

ARC provided by Random House Publishing Group, via Netgalley. Honest review.

Trulie was not a wimp. She definitely had one solid backbone, and she never once backs down from anything, or plays games. She was definitely a spitfire.

Gray, chieftain of the Mackenna clan, is not one to be told what to do. Once Trulie warms her way into his heart, he's a goner. He won't let his spitfire get away from him at any cost.

Trulie and Gray will have to come to terms, each, with a heart wrenching moment in their lives to get to the other side as evil is about and in full play mode in Gray's castle. Trulie and her granny are there to be rid of it, once and for all.

But can Gray and Trulie do so and keep their relationship, their hearts, and their very lives intact?

I truly, (no pun intended), enjoyed this book. It kept me up well passed my bedtime. I loved Gray and I really liked his and Trulie's relationship. I liked the small story line for Granny and I liked when Colum's character would show up.

My only complaints would be that

Over all, I liked what I read and look forward to Colum's story.

This is a time travel/highlander romance. I could tell straightaway this probably wasn’t a good fit, but I tried to push on. It starts rather slow; they actually just met when I gave up. It’s also a little hard to follow up to that point because the storyline is flipping between the current (where Trulie is) and the past (where Gray is), and it jumps/switches mid chapter with new paragraphs that aren’t really marked.

Bottom Line- My reading enjoyment really depends on my mood, and this has a silly feel to it. “Crap on crackers, that was a rough ride.” I’m just not in the mood for silly at the moment.

I received an uncorrected proof, electronic copy, of this book from the publisher/Net Galley for an honest review. This story was one that I would read again. It has wonderful, quirky, characters with some supernatural qualities. We start out in present day Kentucky; but, the meat of the story takes place in 13th century Scotland. There is some mystery and intrigue in the story too. The two main characters, Trulie Sinclair and Gray MacKenna are from different times. Trulie lives in the here and now and as a member of the Sinclair family, and the eldest female in her family (besides her Granny), is endowed with all her families gifts as a time runner. Being a time runner she can “dance across the ages”. Time runners are always female, so her 3 sisters are also time runners; but, they do not all have the same additional abilities. Granny convinces Trulie that they need to return to the century they jumped from, when her twin sisters were just infants. There, in 13th century Scotland, they meet Gray MacKenna, chieftain of clan MacKenna. Someone murdered Gray’s parents, Gray’s uncle Tamhas (Granny’s betrothed) convinces him that Trulie can help him figure out who did it.
Maeve Greyson brought the characters to life and makes the reader care for them. This was a wonderful story that I enjoyed immensely. Thank you Ms Greyson for the enjoyment experienced while reading this tale. I look forward to the next one in the series.

I have conflicted feelings about My Highland Lover. For the most part, the characters were really likeable and the plot was fun and light - however, this all fell apart at different points of the novel.

The start: super slow. The author spent ages world-building and creating a narrative around the heroine and hero in isolation. This would have been fine if the plot hadn't been abandoned as soon as Trulie & Gray meet - because in that case, it felt like a waste of time and created unnecessary suspense.

The middle: full of insta-romance and random 'plot twists' that were predictable and only served to drive the two main characters closer together. The blurb was definitely misleading here -

The end: let's not talk about the end. It felt like a cop out by the author to create fake suspense and drama. Literally served no purpose :)

I loved this book! The story is gripping, and I read it in one day. I was even reading it a doctor's appointment and got annoyed when they called me in lol.

Trulie Sinclair comes from a family of Time-Travelers. And as the oldest female, she has multiple powers including reading people and healing! She lives in present-time Kentucky, but was born in 13th century Scotland. Her grandmother convinces her to leap with her one last time into the past.

Enter, Gray.. A manly-man Highlander, who became the chieftain of his clan after the death of his parents.

There are lots of events in this book, sometimes I felt there were a little too many, but that didn't take away from the enjoyment of the story.

I can't wait to read the next installment!

I loved this book and I can't wait for the next one. Gray he's such a man, "he didna ken where the woman had come from and at this verra moment, he didna truly care. The way those trews molded to the sightless beauty's fine round arse chased all reason from his head. Gray widened his stance to accommodate the hardening ache growing in his crotch." Trulie that girl is funny:
"You smell good."
Gray chuckled. "Thank ye, lass." His voice deepened with a seductive echo. "Ye smell verra fine yourself."
Gray isn't like most men, he's honest, "kissing ye will no' make me any smaller either." You get the meaning behind that ladies (*winks*). I really did love this book, Granny she wasn't a force to be reckoned with and Gray has his hands full with Trulie who was a stubborn, yet passionate gal.

I loved this book and am eagerly awaiting the second one in the series! This was an entertaining read- and found myself laughing out loud in many scenes. This is one of the first time travel novels and it was done in a very intelligent and well thought out manner. I also enjoyed the mystery that was threaded throughout the novel. And phew, Gray! He’s an alpha hottie highlander!

I was immediately drawn into the book within the first few pages- the “bump” I had while reading was trying to determine how the family was related. As you can see from my status update- I was tempted to draw a family tree! Thankfully this becomes clearer by chapter 3 and throughout the rest of the book.

Can’t wait to read about the fiery Kenna next!

My Highland Lover by Maeve Greyson, is the first book that I have read from this author. I am not sure how I missed her before, but I will not be missing her books in the future. I love the cover of the book! It is bright, sexy, and inviting.

Gray MacKenna's mother and father were recently killed in a horrific fire, and he is bound and determined to find out who is responsible for the fire. Now that his father is dead, Gray is the new chieftain of the Clan MacKenna. He is a fair and just leader of his clan, and all that reside within its walls. He doesn't have time for a woman or love.

Trulie is clever, self reliant, out spoken, and is set on seeing to the well being of her sister and her granny. Trulie is also a time jumper. she was born in the 13th century in Scotland, but raised in Kentucky in the future by her granny. Her and her sisters lost her parents when she was a small child, and it was up to granny to see to their safety. Now she must leave them on their own to go back in time to Scotland to see her granny settled, and reunited with her true love.

Trulie literally drops out of the sky onto Gray's chest. So beings their attraction to each other, and their relationship. I enjoyed the back and forth banter between Gray and Trulie. It was a breath of fresh air that Gray did not fight or hide his feelings for Trulie. He did exactly the opposite. There was heat between them, and the author made it known.

I loved the secondary characters in the story. Granny was my favorite! She was a little cunning, a match maker, and extremely funny. She kind of reminded me of Granny from the Beverly Hillbillies TV show, except for she didn't run around threatening anyone with a shotgun. Then there is Kismet, Trulie's dog, her protector and constant companion. Coira, who is Trulie's maidservant, is a no nonsense kind of girl, and very outspoken. All of these character's together flowed quit nicely, and made for a humorous at times read.

I enjoyed the paranormal elements in the story. Time-travel is one of my favorite elements in a story. You have Trulie that can sense what people are feeling, and sense their true nature. There is also 'the fire portal', which allows Trulie communicate with her sisters in the future. There was also the way that Trulie and granny time traveled that was different in this story.

This plot moved along quit nicely. I was a tad confused in one or two places, involving Gray's parents death, but the author does a nice job of putting me back on the right track. There is a little danger, and suspense in this story. Just when you think a problem has solved, you get nudged in a different direction. Which makes a fun and wonderful read.

If you enjoy a little time-travel, humor, and paranormal elements in your historical romance, you will enjoy this book.

Sexual Scenes- Heat factor is a 3 out of a 5
Curse Words- 3 out of 5

My Highland Lover is the perfect blend between a generous and sensual historical romance with just enough paranormal aspect to blend everything together and create a wonderful and exciting love story, with of course sexy highlanders!

Who doesn't want a sexy highlander, looking at you like you are the most magnificent thing in the world !?! Well Grayson MacKenna is able to make you feel this way!

I love historical romance that mix paranormal aspect like time travelers and Maeve Greyson has succeeded to catch my full attention by creating a believable universe where romance, magic and sexy highlander meet easily.

Trulie is an interesting character; she had traveled from past to future with her grand-mother when she was but just a child and now Granny wants to go back, where they belong. Trulie now love her new life in the 21 century, she got a job, a boyfriend and sisters. She doesn't really want to go back and left everything behind, but Granny has other things in mind; Grayson MacKenna!

Grayson MacKenna is now Chieftain of the MacKenna's Clan after the terrible and dubious death of his parents. Seeking revenge, Gray will go after Trulie for her abilities to see the truth once and for all about his parent’s obvious murder.

Gray is also a stunning and sexy highlander who can bring Trulie's to her knees, on the other side, she want nothing more than to go back in the future, where she thinks she belong. Honestly, Trulie will have a hard time to refuse and reject the many advances Gray will attempts to the readers damn! Deep in both hearts, they know they are meant for each other, but Trulie will try to find ways to convince Gray or herself otherwise.

In the meantime, Trulie will also undercover the mystery behind Grayson's parents death, but also find out about other treats so her journey must go on in the past. The suspense and mystery surrounding Grayson's parent’s death was awesome and thrilling, but every chapter is bringing a new treat and a new adventure so the readers don’t have the time to be bored!

A great new series for the talented Maeve Greyson, if you're like me, a fan of Historical Romance and paranormal Romance, My Highland Lover is the perfect book for you! Can't wait to read the next one!

I received an ARC for an honest opinion.

Truely comes from a family of Timetravellers. This is not the most important thing to her. What is? Keeping her family together. It is she, her Granny and 3 younger sisters living in Kentucky running a Natural Products store.

Granny has been bothering her to travel lately and quite frequently. Granny tells Truely that she wants to go on her last timetravel and it can only be them two because she doesn't have the ability for the whole family. She is finally convinced with the help of one of her sisters.

She and Granny return to 13th century Scotland. Granny won't tell her why she is needed there, just that they will know when it is time. Then she meets Gray.....ohmylord...he is the reason I am addicted to Highlanders! Proud, Braw and Honorable!

And of course, plenty of interesting characters left for other books!

I would give this book a 4.7. There were a couple of statements made that had me paging back for other information and that kind of bothered me. I only noticed it twice.I also thought the mention of possible retaliation by Grays stepmothers father was a waste of time.

My super, super favorite was the twists and turns. Here I thought we were coming to the end of the book and the 'happily ever after' and something dramatic would take the story into another turn. I was completely satisfied when I thought the end was coming and this just spiraled me right back up. Just great!

The characters were also written well; I could feel their emotions.

Thank you for the opportunity to read Truely and Gray's story!

This is book one in the Highland Hearts series.

Trulie Sinclair knows that she is not of the current time period. Her grandmother brought her and her sister to the future so that they could get the medical attention they needed to survive. Convinced that it is Trulie's time to go back home, her grandmother talks her into accompanying her back in time. Trulie didn't count on meeting a rugged highlander that took her breath away.

Gray MacKenna, never imagined that he would see a beautiful woman appear right in front of him. As attracted to her as he is, Gray just doesn't know what to think of Trulie. She is so different from the women of his clan. When Trulie helps him to find a murderer amongst his people, he can't help but wonder if he has found his one true love.

This is my first book by Greyson and I will definitely be back. I love a good Highlander story and if it involves time travel, all that much better!

I always love to see how a modern day man/woman will react to things they encounter in the past. Do they say things they shouldn't, talk about things that have yet to happen and other "out of time" things.

MHL also included the solving of a crime, which added interest to the story. I really enjoyed this story and can't wait for the next book in the series.

I really enjoyed this novel, My Highland Lover.
Trulie is the owner of a homeopathic store in Kentucky, she runs it with the help of her grandmother. Her neighbours have always thought her to be a little odd which is not surprising as she has secret, Trulie is a time runner, and was born in Scotland in the thirteenth century and is a time-traveling Highlander.

Trulie's grandmother convinces her that as she only has one more chance time-travel as she is getting on in age and Trulie should come with her as someone really needs her special powers that only she has.
Gray MacKenna has been made the new chieftain of the MacKenna clan after his parents are murdered, and he has thoughts of revenge for this loss and reason now to believe there is a traitor among his followers. When Trulie arrives, can her powers discover any murderers or traitors? Will the attraction between Gray and Trulie become more than they can control.

The story was very different and thoroughly entertaining. Gray was a very understanding character and a very cosmopolitan type, responding to Trulie's explanations straight away nearly every time. What a guy.
He was a great character. And Trulie was fun and feisty as she tried to get used to the old ways again with her loyal guardian Karma.
I loved this story and look forward to the next book in the series. 5/5

This was a fun romantic tale. At times, I felt Trulie was whiny or overly dramatic. But, hot damn.. get me a man like Gray and I'd do anything he asked!
Granny is funny. She brings humor to this book.
"If Granny could still deliver a smart-ass remark, then Granny was okay."
I was a little annoyed that the copy of the book I got, the scenes changed without warning. It was slightly confusing.
The end was clever and will have me looking for the 2nd book in this series. This was an interesting time travel Highlander novel. I enjoyed the story, the drama and plot. The characters were interesting, even those not important to the story. It was a fun read.

I don't know if I could go back in time. But at least Trulie was born there, so she knows what to expect.

The author has a real talent for description. You can almost feel like you're there.

He took the "I'm from the future" thing better than I thought.

Dude, ask, don't tell.

Yikes. I am glad I can't see the future. Fate can do with me what she will.

You are so whipped, Gray.

Beala is cray-cray.

Woo, you go, Granny!

I was crying during the reunion. Don't you wish the same thing for your loved ones?

Wow, I would be freaking out if I were them.

I like Coira for Colum. Oh well.

My Highland Lover was a refreshing time travel novel that was funny, interesting, steamy, and it even had some mystery to it! I was afraid that this novel was going to be a corny romance novel like my grandma use to read, but I am so glad I was wrong. The Sinclair women who are the time runners in this series are feisty, stubborn, strong, lovable, and hilarious. I can not wait to read more about Trulie, Granny, Kenna, and the twins in the other books! I will definitely be on the lookout for Kenna's book My Highland Bride! This book had everything-sizzling chemistry between Gray and Trulie-time jumpers, murder plots, laughter and tears. I fell in love with Gray and absolutely adored Granny, Tamhas, Kizmet and Karma. I appreciate that there was no cliffhanger ending and I can't wait to see what becomes of Kenna and Colum when they are forced together! My Highland Lover
A Scottish Time Travel Romance
Highland Hearts #1
Maeve Greyson
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Trulie Sinclair knows her neighbors think that she's strange and no wonder because she is the proprietor of a homeopathic store in rural Kentucky. The neighbors just don't have any idea how different she really is from other folks. Trulie was actually born in 13th century Scotland to one heck of a gifted bloodline of time travelers. Her grandmother brought them all to modern day times from the medieval era when she had no other choice. Trulie is absolutely sick of listening to her grandmother going on and on as to why she should leave the comforts of the modern world to return to medieval Scotland so she finally relents and returns to the past. Trulie literally lands on Grey MacKenna's broad chest, and just as his alpha male looks, send delicious ripples through her body, an attraction like no other tempts both of their hearts.

Gray MacKenna is the new chieftain of his clan after his parents murder. Now, he is fully consumed with rage and wanting revenge. He has good reason to believe that there is a traitor in his midst and nothing, not even the beautiful lass who suddenly drops out of the sky can distract him from his mission. Or can she? Grey learns that she has gifts beyond the sparkle in her eye , and he allows his heart to get entangled with her heart. Grey ends up finding all of the help he needs while searching for the murderer because he has Trulie and her gifts by his side. Can they catch the killer? Or will they get away from them?

Maeve Greyson is absolutely marvelous. This book had me from the get-go. It was so interesting that I had a hard time setting it aside to go to bed at night. I honestly felt like I was transported back to medieval Scotland with Trulie and her grandmother. Everything I read was so vivid that it was like I was right there with them. Grey and Trulie were made for each other. You won't find a better pair than these two. Ms. Greyson is one of my go-to authors, but this book was one of the best that I've read from her yet. If you love time travel, Scotland, hot guys, and mysteries, then look no further. This is the book for you. I can't wait to read the second book in the series.

Review of my Highland Lover

This is not the usual knock down swords flying battle kind of story. Understand that it becomes apparent from the beginning that the turmoil and tension is heavy and truly a story of Fear, Survival, Love and Battle of Wills...and of course a bit of magic. The Sinclair Girls understand time travel as they are from the past brought to the future by their Grandmother Nia in order to protect them. Each have a special gift including Nia. Nia knows that the time has come to travel home taking the girls one at a time. Trulie (not happy) and Nia (determined) start their journey. In comes Gray and the fireworks start with Trulie. Quite the story here and I would most definitely recommend it. As for me, on to Book Two/Kenna. Thank you Maeve!!

I always forget how much I love a historical romance until I read one! This book takes the historical and modern and twists them together in a really unique way. It’s very difficult to write stories that root in time travel, but this author did a wonderful job. It was fun, interesting, and very creative!
Trulie is a time runner, a skill passed down to her and her sisters, from mother to daughters. As a child, her grandmother jumped ahead with her and her three sisters to save their lives after the death of their parents. So, although she has visited many eras with her grandmother, she has essentially grown up in the 21st century.
Her Granny, oh Granny. She is hysterical. This book would not be anything without this character. She is every stereotypical personality of the meddling grandmother and yet, she is not cliché at all. She adds a lot of laughter to the story and I loved her!
Granny knows that Trulie’s future is rooted in the past. She weaves a web of half-truths and convinces Trulie to jump back, but Trulie is of the mind that she will shortly return to her current time period. She has let her life become fairly boring and Granny feeds on that a little bit to get her to go on this adventure.
Gray is the newly appointed Chieftain of his Highland clan, the MacKennas. His mother and father recently dies in a horrific fire and he has not only been given this huge responsibility (as the illegitimate child of the previous Chieftain), but he is saddled with his father’s venomous widow and her sniveling weasel of a son. He is fixated on finding out who the culprit is that caused the deaths of his parents.
When Trulie comes flying through time and literally falls on top of him, life takes a sharp turn into a new direction. All of the sudden, he has an additional focus, to claim Trulie. Gray is easy to read about, an easy character to love. He is loyal, loving, strong, and passionate. He balances the tough and the sweet in a very smooth way. His sarcasm just adds to his attractive picture.
Trulie is almost as much fun of a character as her grandmother. Together, they are a force to be reckoned with, their wit, intelligence, and magical talents bring together a duo that will have you smiling and shaking your head at the same time. Some of their schemes are very quirky and had me giggling, but they are always made with common sense.
Gray’s more stoic personality is in sharp contrast to Trulie’s at times, but that’s a lot of what makes them fit so well together. Trulie brings out the humor in him. The passion rages between them and I had to go and grab a fan to finish the book!
The author does a really nice job of keeping you guessing. Even when you learn who the culprit is, even if it happened to be the person you expected, there are still surprises in every corner. The story unfolds in a web, but I was never lost in it. The author even throws in some pretty heavy angst at times, and yet keeps the story on the lighter side so that the sadness doesn’t get you down.
I very much enjoyed this book and I look forward to the next book in the series! I’ve certainly added more of this author’s books to my TBR. It was a fun and engaging book, with adventure, love, and steamy romance. The story never drags, so it’s a pretty fast read as well. 4 Stars!!

Highland Hearts

Review: Trulie Sinclair comes from a long line of Time Jumpers. This means she can move from one period in history to another, among many other talents. After giving into the pressure her grandmother puts on her to return to thirteenth century Scotland, Trulie finds herself roped into helping the MacKenna Chieftain determine who killed his parents. Using her gifts to determine who would want the old chieftain and his mistress dead, Trulie comes to realize that there is more going on. Turns out her grandmother has been playing match maker between her and Gray. The problem is that now that Trulie has started snooping around she has caught the attention of the murderer. Will Trulie and Gray be able to find a murderer before it’s too late or will one of them end up being the next victim before a true romance can fully bloom?
I really enjoyed this story. I love highland romances a lot, but the ones where it takes a modern woman and sends her to the past are my favorite. This one was especially good because there was a mystery also. Unfortunately, the part I did not like was that the person who did it for the most part was very obvious. Still, for the most part this was a great read. The romance was wonderful if a bit fast paced in the beginning.
The characters were wonderful and each of them made the story more interesting. First off there is Trulie, the modern day woman coerced by her stubborn old granny to travel back to the thirteenth century. Trulie is strong and independent. At the same time she feels things deeply, whether it’s a good emotion or not. Then you have Gray, the man she must help to solve his parents’ murders and possibly her soulmate. He is everything you would expect from a highlander. Strong in both body and mind. Since he is the chieftain he is stubborn and when he makes up his mind about something there is no changing it. Then you have the supporting cast which includes Granny, Coira, and Tamhas. Granny is the stubborn old Time Jumper who wants to see all her grandchildren settled before she makes the final leap. She may be an old woman but she knows how to plot and get those around her to do what she wants them to. Coira is the servant assigned to Trulie and granny when they arrive in the thirteenth century. She is a small woman with a powerful personality. She and Trulie become fast friends and Coira does whatever she can to help solve the murders. Lastly is Tamhas, granny’s love from when she had lived in the thirteenth century previously. He has magic in his blood to and is fairly mischievous for an old man.
I truly loved this story and am looking forward to reading My Highland Bride. I recommend this to romance lovers who love a bit of mystery as well.
I received a free ecopy of this book from Netgalley for my honest review.
