Mackenzie…

With each dawn rose a new day, but nothing changed. Not really. My life was the same revolving circle. We barely lived. We moved. We barely got by in a new place. Until we moved again.
New school. New trailer park. Different day.
The first day of my senior year in high school, I was ready to give up. Ready to run far, far away and hope I would never be found. But

Chasing the Stars is a book that takes us on a journey of undying love, unity and transformation. A road, split, by the tragedies and successes of life. A broken girl, a teenage heartthrob, an unlikely pairing, an unbreakable bond. Transcending time, over-coming obstacles, moving pass the surface, and digging deep into the soul.

I started this book one night and I didn't stop until I read it all. The author's words flowed off the pages, engrossing me, till the end. A thrilling and lovab

Great YA read about a couple who, on the surface, seem to have nothing in common but are actually each other's better half. Mackenzie has a negligent mother and an abusive father and has had to move from town to town each time her father loses his job. But when she starts this latest school it seems she's caught the eye of Hayes Morgan, the school's manwhore that every girl wants. He comes from a wealthy family, and has just about every advantage.

Their relationship is complica

Holy Cow! I tell you what! JD Rivera sent me Chasing the Stars, and needless to say I feel like my heart is about to explode! I loved Guarded and Defensive, but Chasing the Stars takes her writing to a whole new level!

Mackenzie has a crappy life: family, housing, and just about anything that goes along with it. She never stays in the same place long, but when her dad loses his job again the move they make places Hayes in her path.

Hayes is your typically player. He doesn’t commit, and lets his ex

I have to say J.D. Rivera did an amazing job writing a very heart warming YA love story. The love story between Hayes and "Mac" was amazing. It begins with her as a new student at the high school...when Hayes lays his beautiful green eyes on her he is smitten, however, he doesn't do relationships and he is kind of your average non-committed, star of the football team, quarter back a-hole, to every other person until he meets Mac.
Mac is hiding a secret and doesn't want to tie anyone down with her

Chasing the Stars by J.D. Rivera

"Chasing the Stars" begins with a teenage boy, Hayes, who fills his nights with most anyone from the opposite sex. He's a one night only performer and swears that the girls know the score before they even get involved with him. Hayes is the star quarterback and the son of the county judge. One could say that his life has been somewhat privileged.

Mackenzie is the new girl in town. She's moved around a ton on account of her deadbeat father always losing his job. She lives in a crappy trailer a

Chasing the Stars is so much more than just a story of sweet young romance. The author covered many issues of a young girls fight to survive in an environment that failed to provide her with stability and love, but the one that resonated with me the most and I could relate to was the physical violence inflicted by Mackenzie’s deadbeat father, whilst her weak mother refused to intervene leaving Mac open to endure his beatings time and time again. I really am a sucker for the high school into early college books. I love reading about all the angst and horrible choices being made. It is so easy to connect with the characters because I was there , I was a moron at times !! It is so great to read and watch these characters grow up and overcome the troubles of teenage life. In this particular story some of the troubles are not as common , there is much heartbreak in this story and the characters are faced with a few "adult" type decisions and ...more

Chasing the Stars is a mix of YA and NA-the main characters are high school seniors. Its completed in a dual narration which I love..

I actually read this one in one sitting-and I truly love a YA/NA book, I love seeing young love develop into such a powerful love and that's what exactly what this book was.

Mackenzie Blanchard is a broken beat down girl, moving from city to city because her drunken father can't keep a job. However, she lands herself in the one city where her life changes. Mackenzi

I LOVE this story!!! I can't give it enough stars or stress how this isn't a typical young adult romance story!

While this story starts out like some of the other typical stories you read, it grows into a plot that holds SO much more than what you expected. Hayes and Mac are two high school students that lead very different life styles and are definitely from two different sides of the tracks in their small town. Hayes is the typical football player jock that likes to party and

It's a high school/college love at its best. This isn't all hearts and flowers though. There are some heavy issues but that's what makes the book.

If you want to read a book that will make you feel this is the book for you.

Original Blog Post: Blog Tour & eARC Review: Chasing the Stars by J.D. Rivera

My Rating: 4.5 out of 5 Stars

Chasing the Stars is truly a sweet book, although I had to laugh when I realized how old the main characters were - I assumed they were seniors in college, not in high school! However, there are many stories (and quite a few couples I know) about teens who were high school sweethearts and are still together today, which makes J.D. Rivera quite the sentimental, and romantic, author.

And in the end, I am so glad that I decided to read. This book was really good. Mackenzie, or Mac, has just moved to the town of Maverick, and she has decided that she is just going to try to survive this year, her senior year of high school, until she can get away from her family and get to college. Her home life is a daily struggle, and her dad continues to lose jobs, causing them to move around a lot, so she doesn't even have much to depend on outside of herself. That all changes in Maverick, though.

Hayes is sort of the town golden boy, although, he is also a huge jerk.

Mackenzie Blanchard doesn't have an easy life. When she is yet again forced to move and attend a new school her senior year she is just hoping for the best and ready to get it over with.

From the start up to the last, the emotions of the characters are felt.

The characters, Hayes and Mackenzie are interesting.
Both characters are good and they were easy to relate with.
