A library apprentice, a sorcerer prince, and an unbreakable magic bond...

The Solaris Empire is one conquest away from uniting the continent, and the rare elemental magic sleeping in seventeen-year-old library apprentice Vhalla Yarl could shift the tides of war.

Vhalla has always been taught to fear the Tower of Sorcerers, a mysterious magic society, and has been happy in he

I just answered this question on my author page, but I'll answer it here also so that anyone/everyone can see it ---

I'm going to answer this question completely honestly, because I want people to know what they're "getting into" with my books! But that means there are some very -very- general spoilers for the first book and the series. So, to anyone reading this, you've been warned ;)

In the first book of the Air Awakens series there isn't any kissing, sex, etc. Not to say there isn't romance, because I'd say there's some definite attraction/tension between characters (I do call it a fantasy/romance book!). But, for reasons in the first book's story, it's not explored. However, it is worth noting that our heroine - Vhalla - is not a virgin and that is made clear in the first book.

However, in later books there will be sexual themes and sex. This is part of why I say Air Awakens is intended for an older YA audience. Because while it will not be "explicit" like an Adult or New Adult novel, it will be present and will leave no questions to what's happening when it happens, to whatever characters it happens to.

I realize sex in YA can be a touchy subject - which is why I like it when people ask me questions like this because I'm not of the inclination to get people to read something they'd have issues with. But, when I was writing Air Awakens I wanted to be as honest to the characters as I could be and if that meant sex at a point then I didn't want to shy from it, just as I don't want to shy from violence of the brutal natures of war and hate. I think books can play an important part in building a dialog surrounding these topics for young adults and so I decided to keep such scenes - as made sense - in the series.

“I want a place you hardly dare to even whisper. I want the bravery to not only read, but to do. I want a man, not a library boy. A man who is tall and witty and knows more about the world than you would ever dare dream.”

OH. MY. GOD.

This book was utter perfection!! Mix elemental magic with war and schemings and court rivalries and romance and a prince to die for and BOOM! Air Awakens happens. And a seriously embarassing dancing session.

As I’m writing this I’m pretty sure I’m dying with the anticipation for the next book. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that I love every single part of this book. The plot was engaging since the very first page, the characters have had huge personalities that demand attention, and the world has so much potential which I’m sure will be achieved as I continue with the series. I’ve been completely lost in this book since I’ve started it, I finished it in one sitting and it not slow down for a ...more

A sorcerer with battle scars came back to Vhalla with vivid clarity. They were sending her to war, so she would go and become something they had every right to fear.

I think it's time I stop having so much hype for a book. I feel like one enjoys a book more, whether it has a lot of hype or not, without having many expectations because when you have none, you're really met with things you didn't expect and most of the time you're hyped for a book and you end up disliking it. Read this super long review on my blog too.

FIRST THOUGHTS: no no no. Definitely needed another round of editing, but that's not the biggest of my problems. Barely anything happens, worldbuilding what worldbuilding, a love interest who is part creep, part asshole, and occasional sensitive guy (because like, readers have to have SOMEthing right), a love square...This is going to be a long and ranty review.

An overall stunner!

I went into this book barely knowing anything and without any specific expectations because I had a vague idea what it was about. Sorcerers? Library apprentices? Royal characters? It's quite hard to imagine them all tangled up into one big knot. Luckily as I went through the pages, I didn't experience difficulty in absorbing everything because it was so darn good!

The book mainly centers on the heroine Vhalla Yarl, a library apprentice who later on discovered that she was entir

This book and I got off on the wrong foot, really. It was probably the COMPLETELY inconsistent pacing that threw me off. I mean, sometimes things happen way too fast, (like the romance, ugh. More on that later) while others take foreverrrr (like, unfortunately, the rest of the plot).

So, let's elaborate.

THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE

1.) The pacing - Like I said, it was totally inconsistent. Other than what I've mentioned earlier, there were a few times when a weeks have gone by in a span of a page, and som

I had honestly forgotten how annoying cliché books can be until I read Air Awakens. This book was an unwelcome reminder. It just lacks originality and mimics stories that we have seen a countless number of times before.

AIR AWAKENS was one of the most frustrating books I've read in a while because it had a lot of potential, but a lot of that potential was squandered away on Vhalla, the Worst Heroine in the World.
