It’s been awhile since I’ve read a Sci-Fi romance. Linnea Sinclair used to be my “go to” author for everything Sci-Fi, but it’s been a few years since she’s published anything. I may have just found a new author to replace my Linnea Sinclair addiction. It’s Cathy Pegau, and her recent release, Caught in Amber is balls to the walls awesome. Cathy also writes Sci-Fi Lesbian Romance, which was her debut, Rulebreaker in 2011. Caught in Amber is and one of the best Sci-Fi Romances I’ve read in recen ...more

This book is awesome. This is probably the best adult sci-fi I've read since The Electric Church (Avery Cates, #1) by Jeff Somers

First we have. . .a bold heroine getting over a captivating drug called amber.

and also trying to stay away from the hot sexy drug dealer that got her hooked on the stuff to begin with.

Then another guy makes her an offer. One that will have the poor heroine not only around Amber, but around the sexy drug dealer. Oh yeah, did I forget to mention that the other guy is a hottie too.

Put all of that together and

I requested this book for review from NetGalley

Caught by Amber is much like any other romance, hero and heroine meet, they resist their feelings for each other, but during the dangerous mission they can't help but fall in love. What I like is the added twist of the heroine, Sasha, dealing with her addiction and facing down the demons that ruled her life for so long. In conquering her fears of amber and standing up to Guy, she realizes that she is worthy of love, that she can have a better life w

What I liked.
I loved the characters. Sasha, despite her dark past, is an immediately likeable and sympathetic character. Even after being broken and having to rebuild herself from the drug-addicted shambles she's become, she's strong, intelligent, and a warm human being who doesn't wallow in self pity but lives with her regrets. She had every reason to tell Nathan Sterling where to stick his request (and frankly I'm not sure what he was offering was good enough a prize), yet she knows what Natha
I kept trying to read this and wasn't sure if it was that I couldn't get invested in the book because of the book itself or if I just wasn't in the mood for something serious. Either way I finally decided to give up on this. It has an interesting premise but I couldn't make myself attempt to read it any more.

This is science fiction romance done just the way I like it: complex characters, high stakes, and a ‘happy ever after’ that never seems inevitable.

Nathan Sterling is one of the good guys: a law enforcement officer on a gritty, crime-ridden mining colony. So why is he trying to push a reformed drug addict into re-entering the world of amber, a highly addictive narcotic? Sasha James is a reformed drug addict, albeit with the help of an mandated implant that helps her resist the allure of amber. T

I enjoyed this readable page-turner so much I read it in one sitting over the weekend. I sympathized with Sasha and thought her struggle as a recovering drug addict was very well-realized. Sasha displays a huge amount of resolve and determination in dealing with the central conflict of the story (which I won’t give away), and I found myself admiring her grit a great deal as the story unfolded. Recovering addicts are not always the most sympathetic and likeable characters, but the author did a gr ...more

"Caught in Amber" by Cathy Pegau was a good 'Sci-Fi romance that I really enjoyed reading. I found this read somewhat sci-fi, urban fantasy romance really made a statement about dug addiction in general. This drug is called Amber, heroine or another other highly additive drug. From the read we find Sasha has been out of a correctional facility for eight months as a reformed ad

I really liked the world-building. But the characters just didn't do it for me.

The heroine is... fine. I wish she'd been a bit more of a bad ass, really. Not physically, just less of a 'good girl who made mistakes'. I wanted her to be a bad girl, and she wasn't.

But it was the male leads who drove me up the wall. Nathan's a supercilious ass. He pushes the heroine into a dangerous situation and then acts like an idiot when she's actually IN danger. To me, it came down to him not respecting her--in

The author kept me on the edge of my seat with action and danger at every turn. I worried, not only for Sasha's safety, but for the terrible risk that she could be caught by the drug that nearly ruined her once before. Her physical addiction might be curbed, but her psychological addiction still lurks. I could feel her fear and admire her courage as she takes ever more dangerous risks.

The author does a masterful job of portraying Nathan’s frustration over putting Sasha in danger and his fear tha
Sasha just wants to go about her life, as mundane as it is, but when Nathan approaches her and asks for her help to save his little sister from Sasha's drug-dealer ex-boyfriend - she can't turn him down. To get back into Guy's good books, she has to play nice with him - which could hurt her and her probation status - all while resisting the call of Amber. Nathan and Sasha's growing feelings for each other could jeopardise the whole thing, if Guy suspects anything between the two of them - he cou ...more

I'm going to put this on hold. It's just not working for me. There is no chemistry between the leads, the insta-intimacy and trust makes their relationship unbelievable, and I feel no connection to either one.

The writing style is also driving me a bit crazy. There is too much physical movement--every other sentence is "he raised his eyebrow", "she shivered", "she pressed her lips together", "she rubbed her hands together", "his jaw twitched"--it's too much. As a reader I do not need that much d

Part science-fiction, part romance, part suspense, this story is all good! Both Sasha and Nathan are complex characters with shades of gray in their moral fibers. Nathan's willingness to risk his job and use a civilian as bait played off well against a woman that wanted to put her past behind her and felt herself unworthy of a good man.

I really enjoyed this book. I thought both Nathan and Sasha were very likeable. I also liked them together. I liked how imperfect Sasha was and her determination to put it behind her (she is an ex-junkie). I think this book would appeal to anyone who likes a good romance with imperfect characters. The sci-fi elements are there, but don't overwhelm.

I give this about 3.5 Stars.

It was a fairly good story, however, it drug on in some parts and by 75% I kind of just wanted it to be over.

I did like how the main female character had a real internal struggle as well as normal reactions to the situations she was in. It was refreshing to see a character to do what she was told because it made sense, instead of being defiant for no reason at all. Again- she was a rational and fairly level headed; so kudos there. But... kind of predictable.

So 3.5-Cr

Reading like an exciting suspense romance, Caught in Amber is a wonderful science fiction tale that follows the story of Sasha James and Nathan Sterling. Sasha is a recovering drug-addict parolee who, five years ago was the girlfriend of Guy Christiansen, a wealthy drug supplier, and she was living the high-life and getting messed up. When she left/he kicked her out, she turned to crime to pa

Genre: Sci/fi fantasy romance

Caught in Amber is a sci/fi, urban fantasy style romance that makes a powerful statement about drug addiction and the drug trade in general. For me, this sets it apart from many others of the genre. It gives it a depth that is often lacking in popular fiction. At the same time, it has everything you would expect from the genre, passion, action, a courageous heroine, a gorgeous hero and a life or death cli

There were so many good points about this novel that I find myself unsure of where to begin with the review. Caught In Amber is probably one of the best "introduction" novels for Science Fiction Romance that I have come across. It is a perfect bridge between Sci-Fi Suspense, Suspense (General) and Sci-Fi Romance. It has many elements that could fit into any setting; past, modern or future, and the world building element

I'm a little torn on this one. I enjoyed it but at the same time there were times I had to step away because I was getting a bit bored. I liked the main characters and the world but for some reason at times I got distracted.

Nathan is a good guy caught in a bad spot. His sister has come under the spell of a dangerous drug dealer and he needs help from an unlikely source to get her free. He's a very driven man who at times acts incredibly stupid. I wanted to slap him for some of his actions but he

Caught in Amber is set in the same universe as Rule Breaker. In fact there is a brief mention of Liv Braxton and Zia Talbot in this story. While Caught in Amber is listed as Science Fiction Romance, like Rule Breaker, you could easily move the location to the present day and have a contemporary romance. Having said that Caught in Amber is a strong story filled with very strong characters.

I wasn’t sure I liked Nathan Sterling through much of the story. He started out not caring about Sasha James

This is a fantastic sci-fi romance. One of my very favourites of all time.

Reformed drug addict Sasha is out of rehab and trying to get along on her own, and trying to stay clear of amber. After all, amber's what got her in trouble in the first place: living the high life (pun intended) with top drug dealer Guy Christiansen. Trouble is, staying clear is easier said than done. Agent Nathan Sterling (briefly seen in Pegau's previous work, Rulebreaker) needs Sasha's help. In exchange for releasing

Caught in Amber grabbed me and held me until the end. It's a sweet/sensual heat level. The characters are the most well-rounded that I've read in a long time. Every one of them has a good and a bad side, things that make you both like and not like them. I enjoyed the characters and their struggles, the detailed and interesting world, and the suspense aspect of the story. I usually get a feel right off for how stories will end, but not this one, well, not exactly. Knowing it's a Romance, you know ...more

This was such a fun sci-fi romance! I've interacted with the author on Twitter several times, and she's absolutely delightful, so I was all the more pleased when I enjoyed her second book (the first is Rulebreaker) so much. Sasha is a fabulous heroine. I love that she's working so hard to get her life back on track after prison and an addiction to the drug Amber. I was a little worried after reading a few reviews of the book that I wouldn't like the hero, Nate, at first, because he is using her ...more

I had this book on TBR for a while and was looking forward to finally getting around to reading if. It sounded interesting and I'm always looking for new to me sci-fi authors.

Well I must say I was hugely disappointed with this book. It was slow, a bit boring really.

I didn't feel the danger of Sasha going back in with drug dealing ex to help rescue Nathan's sister. I also felt there was also no chemistry between Sasha and Stirling. I didn't really warm up to Stir

This was a great read. Right from the start I was caught by the unique characters and setting. Sasha isn't your typical heroine, in fact, she's on parole and recovering from an addiction to Amber. She's determined to change her life, and stay away from Guy, the amber dealer who was the start of her problems. When Nathan Stirling turns up and asks for her help getting to guy, it's only the thought of helping his sister avoid her own fate that convinces her.

Not only are Sasha and Sterling original

What a book! Apart from being interesting it is beautifully written. Not one sentence is out of place. The language used is so harmonious that you don't want to stop.
The story is told from the two points of view. Nathan's and Sasha's. It describes the future society on a different planet, where the only chance to get to the drug dealer is to go under cover. At first Nathan only wants his sister back and Sasha wants her freedom. To reach their goals they make a deal. As the story progresses, so d
