This isn't a book you can speed through. It's worth taking the time to read thoughtfully, prayerfully considering the words and concepts. It's designed to encourage reflection, reminding us to examine ourselves rather than blindly trusting our feelings.

The authors candidly admit their own failings and the issues which caused problems in their own marriage, and show how they overcame them. There isn't a quick fix solution, but it all comes back to this: both husband and wife surrendering themselves to God, forgiving, and moving on. They have examples from plenty of different couples too, ensuring that you're bound to connect to at least one.

None of the topics should come as a great surprise; all are relevant to marriage, and all presented well, with insight and a gentle touch of humor.
The format works well. Julie's section comes first, then Greg has his turn, showing the other side (there are always two sides, after all). The "Letter From the Father" is a mind-opening concept and incredible piece: a loving reminder of what God wants for us, taken directly from Scripture, giving assurances in God's own voice. It's followed by a closing prayer and short summary of the chapter to be used in reflection.

I read it by myself, but this would work very well as a discussion book for an appropriate small group as well as for a couple to read together. I intend to reread it with my spouse.

Amazing book that every couple should read. It offers spiritual, foundation truths along with practical skills to achieving the marriage you desire. I have not only read this but hosted several small groups in my home and it is a growing opportunity for both spouses. I love the prayer and practical application at the end of each chapter. There is a groups of videos that go along with the book that are available on Married for a Purpose's website.

A deep and helpful book on marriage.
I liked that each chapter was written from the point of view of both the husband and the wife and also included a nice little devotional.
It covered the areas of marriage where I guess couples most often struggle and offered good biblical advice on these matters.
To be totally honest, there wasn’t anything much in here that I hasn’t been said elsewhere, but it is good to be reminded of these things, and I am sure that even couple who have been married for years will glean some wisdom from the words of Greg and Julie Gorman.
Thanks Net Galley for the free review copy of this book!
