Curb your Outlander cravings with Allison Butler's seriously sexy Scottish novel about an English woman, a Scottish Laird, a case of mistaken identity and a love that will surpass all barriers. An outcast in her own home for as long as she can remember, Lynelle Fenwick will do anything to earn her father's approval. Including exaggerating her healing skills, and setting of ...more

I really loved this story. I didn't have to deal with foul language, whoring ways, idiotic H/h, and the steamy scenes weren't over done upon pages and pages.

Lynelle was shunned by all her clansmen/women and family her entire life- granted two people were good to her. She grew up believing herself to not be worth much. She didn't believe in herself but deep down, she had a hidden temper and so much more. She just needed a reason to be who she was meant to be.

I so enjoyed this most beautiful romantic story ever. This book set in Lynelle Fenwick, a beautiful English girl has to rescue her half brother Thomas. She was trying to win the love of her father and stepmother. Whilst visiting the Closeburn Clan to rescue Thomas they would only set him free if she would stay and offer them her healing skills. There she met laird, William Kirkpatrick. There she met his brother, Edan, who had such a bad leg injury she could fix. She not only cared for him, but o ...more

I have to be honest and say I was a cover slut when choosing this book. That rippling back grabbed me and you would know that if you look at the genre of books I have read in the past year….I was on a Scottish Hi

Story is just as beautiful as the cover

Really enjoyable read.

Loved the characters and the storyline.

The story as a whole flowed niceley with some bumps and emotions along the way.

Lynelle is a great character I found her consistent the entire way and her courage and determination was endearing. Her love for Will was quick but not sudden and I felt it was believeable.

I would have liked more of the scottish accent/talk from Will but I enjoyed his character immensley, his strength and love for his b

Lynelle, an outcast and a healer, rushes to save her half-brother from William Fitzpatrick

The Good, The Bad and Everything In Between
-Outlander fix: She’s a healer and he’s a hot Scottish dude and yes, I’m jonesing for some Outlander.
-Traditional historical romance: There’s alot of longing and angst.
-Likeable leads: Neither one do anything that’s really distasteful.
-But not especially strong either: Neither one are especially compelling though. Lynelle is too shy for my tastes (even if I underst

The cover: I am so sick of rippling abs on romance novels, this cover is a welcome stray from the norm. I kinda love it ;)

The book:
One word comes to mind as I power off my Kindle and that is: Refreshing.
The Healer is a historical romance that's sweet and angsty. The pacing is perfect, the characters are well developed, and the setting was a welcome change. Not once did I find myself skimming as I read. The RN in me really enjo

Hot cover doesn't reflect the mundane acceptance of a new/temporary village healer.

Lynelle Fenwick English, outcast, unacknowledged from birth the focus for her father's & village's grief. Raised by the village healer, Lynelle has the healer training but not the trust to gain experience.

Laird William Kirkpatrick distrustful of the English but worse are healers. Will gets Lynelle, to help his beloved brother, through prisoner exchange for two weeks.

Will & Lynelle find emotional healing
the back and forth between the two characters was downright annoying and it took WAY to long for them to get together. This book could have been so much better.

So when I first saw the cover of The Healer....I was WOWZED!! I just want to look at that back all day...very yummy. I love my highlander romances, and when I was able to get a chance to read this, I was super excited to try this author out. Allison Butler is new to the writers world, and this is her second book. I have yet to read the first, but definitely that is in the plans in the near future. The Healer is a powerful and riveting story that had me from the beginning. Laird William has lost ...more

OK I bought the books from Ms. Butler because they were €1.99. I dragged myself through the first one. And I give up on this one. This heroine rubs me in all the wrong ways. Ms. Butler seems to favor heroines who are desperate for acceptance from their original families. I wonder whether there is a reason for that?

Since all the highland romances must have a alpha male for a hero, such novels, in my opinion, depends on the heroine to make a mark in readers' minds. I find blind loyalty and low se

Woefully underwhelming with a lame ending. One of my big gripes being that the hero and heroine spoke like maybe 500 words together out of the entire book. To put that in perspective these books typically have more than 100,000+ words!

As for the heroine's 'curse' all I can say is really? Seriously? That's why she was cursed?! This will not be a re-read for me.

The Healer is a soft, gentle love story, and yet neither Lynelle or Williiam are soft or gentle with each other, for the most part. That's what I found so compelling in this story, Lynelle had suffered so much yet she gave to everyone so purely, but William addled her to the point where she often burred up with him. And he was so caring and kind with everyone yet Lynelle made him almost senseless. It was a very clever and compelling love, beautifully told, and so believable. I thoroughly enjoyed ...more

My first book by this author and it won't be my last. I loved the story of the hero and the heroine coming together. This I believe is the first book in the series " Borderland Brides" This is a steamy, tough hared love story! I am so glad I found this book and this author!

I gave this book 3 stars. I liked the overall plot, and was drawn in by the story. I like a good brooding romantic hero and a clever but kind heroine who has more to offer than just being a damsel in distress. However the style was not my favourite, I found this author very repetitive, to the point where I skipped paragraphs. I have a second book of hers to read, I hope the style improves, if not I will have to leave these particular Scots behind.

Just what i wanted to read. Alison delivered yet again. The plot, the setting, the characters it felt real, like a story should be told. It had a little of everything. The romance was just right, It wasn't an over kill like some of the reads we have today. Glad i read this one!

So I totally nabbed this title because the cover is smoking hot, got to love a man in a kilt with a sexy back like that. But I also wanted to challenge myself in reading more historical romances. I loved the detailed setting descriptions, the tough as nails clan members, their serious but hot Laird and the “curse” behind the female heroine Lynelle was intriguing.

As you would expect, this book is being marketed as being like Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander. I get that it’s a good time to latch onto that franchise, and I can see why they’re making the comparison (English healer being held by a Scottish laird etc., etc.) but it’s not really the same thing.

On the plus side, (unlike Gabaldon’s) this hero doesn’t feel the need to take a leather strap to the heroine to teach her a lesson about good behaviour! On the other hand, while the c
Did the fashion for sexy men in kilts begin with Outlander or was there an earlier trend that I missed? (Disclaimer: I’ve never had a thing about men in kilts!) Well, this is one of those sexy men in kilts books, but for all that it’s engaging and a quick, light read.

Lynelle is an outcast in her own family home just south of the Scottish border (in the days when the border was somewhat flexible and border raids were de rigeur). She’s been rejected by her father and stepmother and has been brough

It is well noted that many readers, apart from myself, have selected this novel for review because it is similar to Outlander. Being a fan of Outlander, I do not think that The Healer compares equally because it is so much better! In fact The Healer is my favorite Scottish romance of all time!

Butler's writing style is beyond impressive. It is something of pure magic and the kind of descriptive, romantic writings that is difficult to find in the modern industry. This story had everything that I

After reading the blurb, you might wonder at the choice of cover model.

After all, the Healer of the title is supposed to be Lynelle Fenwick, the outcast daughter of an English lord who impetuously bargains for her half-brother's safe return from the hands of a raiding Scottish clan.

The bargain is Lynelle is to spend two weeks with Laird William Kirkpatrick and his clan in order to save his gravely-ill brother.

But as we get to know Lynelle and William, we realise the cover is spot on.

The Healer by Allison Butler magically sweeps you into the enchantment of Scotland.
Lynelle has put herself in a precarious position demanding the release of a prisoner without anything to barter with. William Kirkpatrick needs a healer who won’t kill him or those he loves.
Can he allow himself to trust that the healer is on his side?

The writing is hot with lots of sparks and sizzles with every fleeting glance or light brush between Lynelle and William. Allison’s transport the reader back in time

I'm going with a three point five on this one. I didn't mind it. Another Scottish Highlander romance, which I think makes about four in about a week. At least I feel like reading them though and I am not hating on them!! I must have needed a hit of romance after all the erotica I have been reading that seemed to have me in a funk for a while.

Firstly, full marks for the sexy cover. A broad, muscled, naked back plus kilt equals YUM in my book. So kudos on cover choice.

I very much enjoyed this book!! It was soo good! I really liked how the relationship slowly but surely ran its course. I feel like with many other books, the two main protagonists instantly fall in love with each other and it moves along so quickly. I liked this because as they grew to love we as the readers grew to love them as characters. I also really liked how it was based solely on how they both grew to love and to trust and it didn't include other woman or men that wanted to tear them apar ...more

Allison Butler’s The Healer was a good book. It had a good story, with good characters, but it never reached that “Great” point for me. I think one of my hangups was the lack of character dialog. One of the things I love in a book is character interaction and dialog. For me, that is how I connect with the characters. This book was a little light on character dialog.

Please don’t shy away from this book because I didn’t love it. Allison Butler writes an entertaining tale that may be
